Come and talk when its a 5 or 7 series BMW. A 3 series BMW is like Carnegie Mellon University first building a reputation from its Master's in Electrical and Computer Engineering course, which is hard to get into, and then giving bulk admits in their newer Master's in the INI program which is a spin off, a marketing stunt. A 3 series is also marketing and reaching out to the average masses after building a brand name from something upscale like the 7 series. Its all marketing. I never bother looking beyond when people compare the cheapest of something great overall (the general BMW brand) vs. the greatest of something cheap overall (the general Nissan brand).

Forum Waaaar! Yeaaaah!!! JK. I like both cars, but the OP was obviously bias, he did not go in with the intent of reviewing the Z with an open mind. He obviously loves BMW's and whatever 3 series he has. To each his own.

I've owned a 2007 335 and 2008 M3. All great cars. The rush of the 335 off the line. The rush of the M3 climbing to redline. I've owned many Nissans in the past and loved them all. Do I have a preference? No. Just depends on what I feel like having at that time. The M3 was a pain to drive in this LA traffic along with horrible gas mileage. I did get another manual but the Nismo doesn't tire me in traffic. Can't hate on either brand. Both have spent many years creating the cars we love to drive. Some people need to justify their purchases so they target other popular brands. Just need to brush them off and know that the car you have makes you happy.

I drive a Bimmer, and I hate most Bimmer drivers. Nothing says I'm fresh out of college with a $60k a year job like a leased 3 series, and the terrible sense of entitlement that comes along with it. Nothing like being bred by Motor Trend, Car & Driver, and Road & Track to think they are god while spitting off all the remarks like "laser accurate steering, balanced handling, and high quality interiors."
Modern BMW's are GARBAGE. They've lost many aspects that used to make the car special. Now they are as uninvolving to drive as a Toyota, have interiors that are outclassed by almost everyone, and relentless electronic nannies. Snap the throttle closed to try and kill the relentless understeer mid corner? Nope, the electronic throttle knows that might get the back end loose, so it'll slowly close the throttle (well, actually change the intake lift). Enjoy your heaps of understeer. Steering feel? Drive a well sorted E36. Balance? Drive an E34. Sound? Drive an E34 M5. Comfort? Drive an E38. Want the best of everything? Drive an E39. Euro snobbery is so passe, and it scream's I have no idea what the hell I'm talking about. *Disclaimer* I used to be a BMW nuthugger when I was a teenager, and then I grew up, and realized I was missing out on a whole world of wonderful cars. First car I didn't like because I was an idiot was the 350Z, and after I spent some time in it, realized what an idiot I had been. Sadly most BMW douches aren't that wise, and don't grow out of that phase.

You know,
This guy just posted in the other thread, and I was agreeing with him until the last part of his comment. "I agree 370z is a good car. Same goes for S2000 and other Honda/Acura cars like Integra and RSX. You get money's worth for Honda/Acura in every part which shines with quality unlike BMW where you are definitely paying an extra premium for the brand name itself. Many Honda/Acura 'ricers' are at least very knowledgeable people who know about cars and they just can't afford the more expensive sports cars and they just want to make their cars as good as their liking with the money they have. My main problem is with G37 and 350z/370z drivers. G37 seems to attract sleek hair-gel young sons of rich men who mousse their hair all the way back and who don't know squat about cars while Z seems to attract mainly high school wannabe kids. Both are excellent cars but I would be ashamed as hell being seen in them. If I wanted a personal street race / fun-only car, I would opt for either latest Z4 with dual-clutch or Evo X MR. Evo and their drivers are very respectable. " When I think of young BMW owners I think what he thinks about G owners. lol |

LOL, I sold my B5 S4 TT for the chance to finally own a Z. I loved the 350's but couldn't afford them at the time (owned a 95 GSX) but when I walked into the showroom February 09 it was a done deal in 15 minutes.
Comparing a 30k Japaneses sports car to a 50K luxury sedan is being obtuse. As for the comment of "18yo's attracting girls", how about all those Audi/BMW driver's who spend half their earning trying to do the same... Last edited by LaSeeno; 03-24-2010 at 05:43 PM. |

I could most likely have afforded about any sports car I wanted (well, exotics aside...) and I specifically chose the Z because I am proud as hell to be seen in it for the car that it is. The Z speaks loudly for itself even while simply standing still. I like that. And the ricer comment made me laugh. I'm an almost 40 year old ricer chick?! ha..that is funny.
