There is a drought of MT transmission touring with sport package in my area and I may have to get an AT. I am trying to convince my ego that driving an AT will be "good" enough rather than no 370z at all.

So order one! its a lot of money to spend to buy a new car and you'll have the car for a while. Its worth waiting a couple of months to have exactly what you want.

As far as stop and go traffic is concerned: stop and go traffic isn't enjoyable no matter what kind of transmission you have. i don't know of anyone who has an automatic transmission who see's a ton of brake lights coming up that says 'YES! traffic. Thank god i got an auto! this is gonna be a blast!" traffic isn't fun in any car, so to get one transmission over another in order to make something that sucks (traffic) into something that still sucks doesn't make sense to me.

like many people here, when stuck in traffic, yes i dream of auto, but when the roads free up then i remember again why i chose manual.

My 05 350z was my first brand new car I ever owned. It was my first RWD car. It was my first ever sports car or real car as I call it. It was auto also. I learned a lot of things with it.
But one thing I learned it didn't matter where you went or who looked at your car, soon as they seen it was auto all there excitement drained from there faces lol. I remember a kid in a beat up civic was asking me all these questions and asking to see the engine bay then he looked inside and saw a auto and it blew his mind. All the excitement he had from being near a 350z totally drained from his face. He lost all interest in the car hehe. I don't know why but this was a general reoccurring theme for the 2.5 years I owned the car.

This time around I decided to try manual and see what the fuss is all about. I never drove manual besides a 1 hour session before I purchased the car. At first I regretted it because I sucked at driving it. Night time I would drive and practice and end up with massive frustration. Each night I would get in try and sucked *** at it. It took months before I stopped regretting it.
Now I understand why people like manual, downshifts to what ever gear is nice. Some times the perfect shift feels so good. Also it feels like something to do while driving. Now I am kind of glad with my purchase.

nahh sorry man but i have had manuals and autos and I tried them both in the 370Z and have gone with the 7 speed auto with dynamic lock up and .5/second shifting in manual mode it is a reall fun car to drive hard out and when the traffic is crap slip it into auto and just lay back and listen to the sounds. I,m stoked that i bought the Auto and Ohh by the way its awesome when paddle shifting down 7 gears and feeling and hearing the rev matching kick in.

manual. zero regrets.

The 7AT is smooth when you want it to be and sharp as tack when you put you foot down and use the paddles, it has rev matching on the down shift similar to the manuals, best of both worlds and suits my needs where I am now. Have owned a MY08 350z Track Manual and it was great car but the time was right for an auto.

Drive both transmissions from the dealer over the same road for an hour each in all types of traffic and roads, you will know which is right for you. Go in with clear head either way the 370z is a great car.:happydance:

Best of luck in your decision.

I had 3 cars that were manuel. I knew I wanted a auto when I was looking at a 370z roadster. Yes, it does suck when your in stop and go traffic especially here in Tampa!! Believe it or not there is a higher demand for auto sport cars. When I traded my Tacoma X-runner in the sales man was like it's stick? Well, it only comes in stick... So I'm thinking to my self most ppl like huling stuff in auto... I'm glad I got auto and no regrats about it one bit!!!

puckshaw 03-02-2010 07:29 AM

Getting the AT never even crossed my mind.

rcm2525 03-02-2010 07:33 AM

No regrets.
Besides I like to do to much gear jumping and the sequential shifting of the auto just wouldn't do it for me. Although It's a fine trans.

Red370 03-02-2010 08:08 AM

I dont care how good a transmission it is, nothing beats banging through the gears, nothing, period. Pulling a paddle just feels so synthetic, its like you're completely disconnected with the car, I like knowing and being able to feel what gear im in just by how the engine sounds. And nothing beats getting onto a two lane off ramp, downshifting from 5th to 3rd and blowing by that fancy jaguar in the lane on the right like its standing still...

RandyJamesA 03-02-2010 08:10 AM

On a serious note, how old are you and how are your knees? If your knees have been tortured in sports or something, the left one might appreciate you buying an AT. My dad hasn't been able to drive a stick for 15 years now. Another key point for me is that my girlfriend can't drive a stick, so she will never even ask to drive the Z.
