Nismo accident. Very sad.

wheee! 02-22-2010 04:11 PM

wowwwww....

Sorry to hear of your crash. VDC is your friend!

Modshack 02-22-2010 04:12 PM

VDC off huh?...:shakes head:

Thanks for keeping my insurance rates high.

Other than that, hope you get it fixed like new.

Learn car control, or don't push the button..

TreyUT 02-22-2010 04:18 PM

Ouch....sorry about your sweet ride. VDC is there for a reason. The rear does get a little bit squirly with VDC off. Hopefully she will be back in commission in no time. What part of texas?

FuszNissan 02-22-2010 04:18 PM

I can't stress how important it is to get driving lessons on these cars. So many people disrespect the power of sports cars in general. I am glad no one was hurt. Spending the money on lessons is a good investment, also lets you know your limits with your car.
Just my .02

I totally agree. I hope other people learn from this.

6spd 02-22-2010 04:25 PM

This is why I'm hesitant to turn it off on public streets.

spearfish25 02-22-2010 04:26 PM

So lets hear the full story. Looks like it's dry as a bone outside in those pics. I find my car pretty easy to keep in a straight line when it's dry.

ZPirate 02-22-2010 04:27 PM

Sorry about the damage to your Z. Just be glad you didn't get hurt and that the car isn't damaged any worse than it is.

Like others have said no reason to turn the VDC off on the street. Save that for a track/autocross where you have some margin for error. Also as Fusz said a good performance driving course is a great way to learn how to handle a high performance car. It also makes driving one more fun too.

fatcat777 02-22-2010 04:32 PM

so you turned off VDC and were driving down a strait road and the back end got away from you on dry pavement?

That's doubtful...

Seems to be a weekly occurrence here....:ugh2:

It'll never happen to me.

VDC never goes off. It's called an accident for a reason though. You'll learn. Glad to see you are okay, though. :)

Yup i wonder how long before insurance companies realize too many punks driving Z and getting into too many accidents.

Keep reckless driving off public streets please.

That looks like a highway access road -- perhaps I35 near Austin, TX. Perhaps the spin happened after a right or left turn onto the access road. So he could have been turning onto the access road at the speed limit, then goosed it to get up to the access road speed of 50 mph. No VDC and perhaps a spot of wet pavement near the intersection could easily cause a spin if you slam the pedal to get to 50 from 25 in second gear.

Togo 02-22-2010 04:50 PM

What's the story man, how'd you do it?

Since he said his right rear tire hit the curb, I'm guessing this happened after a left turn onto the access road? Am I getting warm?

I think it's already happened. My rates are double what they were on my 470hp '08 Vette, and I'm over 60....

shoopajae10 02-22-2010 05:47 PM

glad you're okay.

dad 02-22-2010 07:02 PM

Yes it's very sad when you turn off a safety feature that was designed to(sometimes) prevent loss of control! That could prevent you from wrecking, or killing some one!

What is up with people turning off the safeguards on normal roads.

seriously

If you know how to control/handle the car, there is nothing wrong with turning off VDC. With VDC on, it holds the car back, even when punching the throttle on dry pavement in a straight line. With VDC off, it's like unleashing the car and being able to use all of the performance that the Z has to offer - if you know how to use it!

But I thought that when you buy a nismo, some of the extra money goes towards buying driving experience?

Anyone else only turn their VDC off in the rain?

For me, my 350Z doesn't have VDC, so I'm used to it.
Plus the car lets you play on the limit, so if you know what you're doing it won't kick your ***...

shabarivas 02-22-2010 07:27 PM

Wow man.... sucks ... even w/ VDC on in the rain the car gets real slippy fast... But that road looks dry as a bone... would be interesting to hear the real deal

Not to mention, its a ton of fun!!!!!

antman22 02-22-2010 07:48 PM

and this is why i won't turn off VDC until i can find myself a giant skidpad to play on. I don't want to test the limits of the car (and my driving ability) on public streets. I'll keep the nanny on in public.
Sounds like you're ok, thankfully no one was hurt.

kenchan 02-22-2010 07:52 PM

so that's why my insurance is higher than my Fit... ;)

Nismo370 02-22-2010 08:26 PM

Smh noob...And i keep the vdc off most of the time. If it jumps out on me i counter steer...Whats the problem when its off? Some of u guys need a high performance driving class...smh...:shakes head:

How many hours was that high performance driving class?

zinistr 02-22-2010 08:59 PM

I had three 300zx Z32s before getting the Nismo 370z...there's no such thing as VDC.

I can romp around in my 600hp 300zx TT (sans VDC) and still haven't had an accident. These accidents come from driver error or adverse conditions...typically the former.

Glad you're not injured...car's can be fixed or replaced. Just be careful until you get to know your Z.

onekneedown 02-22-2010 09:20 PM

I had a BMW M3 with mods and a lot more power prior to the 370z. I took it to a car control clinic and had a blast. As I was getting ready to take my turn on the throttle steering exercise, I reached to turn off the nanny function (VDC by another acronym). The instructor said I didn't need to because the stability control would allow plenty of aggressive driving before it kicked in. Sure enough both me and the instructor took several turns at throttle steering at pretty aggressive pace and I never felt the nanny kick in. So I'm a little skeptical when some one says, "I crashed my car, VDC was off," as if that was the only variable preventing a mangled machine. Maybe saying "crashed my car, my brain was disengaged" would be more accurate.

I remember both on the my350 and IS300 forums every week, reading about an accident in the rain without the vdc on.

kdoske 02-22-2010 09:29 PM

^:icon14: harsh...

RCZ 02-22-2010 09:35 PM

My 3 guesses.

1) Came in too fast, jumped off the gas, unsettled the rear, swung around and went over the curb.

2) Cooked the corner, understeered into and over the the curb.

3) Came around a corner too fast, rear slid out, he freaked out and counter steered waaaay too much, swung out the other way and hopped over the curve.

m4a1mustang 02-22-2010 09:39 PM

Or just lost it accelerating in a straight line...
