I've seen that actually. One of my professors shot a 60's pickup truck off the deck when he was in Vietnam. They had hidden it on the carrier and would off load and reload it at night when on leaves. They got caught with it and had 2 days to get rid of it when they were a week off from their next dock. They took lots of pictures...
Top Gear UK did it too. That's how they got rid of the last stig before they got the new white stig. They show him driving off but in the cut away you see the steam vent from the CATO.
