I have many friends that swear by RP... But I have a few friends that say they don't care much for it.

Personally, after working for GM for a little bit, I've found that Mobile1 is pretty trust worthy. Although, I've never PERSONALLY used RP. I do, however, use Mobile1 in my Solstice. Seems. I've never put anything else in it though.

Synthetic Oil life is about 5K-6K miles. On some cars it's closer to 10K. If you race a lot, then you should change it every 1K miles although I know a lot of people that go until 3K. However, even light street racing wouldn't constitute changing it that early. People who run their cars at the track, hot lap, and/or frequent 120+MPH should change their oil often.

I used to race a STOCK LS1 car and won against many modded cars because I replaced the oil after EVERY night of racing. :) There is a method to the madness.

How much does it cost to do one these?

I guess when I get my 370z, stick with mobile 1 synthetic or redline. How much does redline costs?

Generally speaking, Nissan has not recommended synthetic oil (at least it didn’t in the 350…I haven’t look at my owner’s manual to see if it still says it’s not recommended). I can tell you, however, that I’ve never heard of anyone having problems because they used or didn’t use synthetic.

Personally, on a brand new car/engine, I change the oil somewhere between the first 25-50 miles (or at least as soon as I can get it done)…and then I would change it at least as often as every 3 months/3,000 miles thereafter (I do it every 1,500 miles/6 weeks for a vehicle I autocross).<o></o>

I believe that if you change your oil/filter on both a frequent and regular basis, then the most of the benefit of synthetic oil goes away.

BTW...Mobil1 used to be the best but they changed their formulation a while ago and is not as good as it once was; Amsoil still uses the better formulation (not sure where RP rates in that mix).

Interesting article...I wonder how Amsoil would have done???

I suspect Amsoil wasn't tested because it's not as widely available as most brands.

oil threads are funny

Found this for power results.

The 2007 Synthetic Oil Shootout - My Pro Street

From what I've seen, Amsoil is in the top and one of the more proven formulas. Royal Purple tests very good but long term testing is still a bit lacking. I know RP was a total phenom in the local oil industry here but they don't have a long term presence in auto yet.

I'll be using Mobil1.

You go with what you know, been using it for a few years now. I change my oil every 7000 miles or so according to my oil life indicator.

In the new Z, not going to stretch it out so long.
