Specifically, trans fluid, rear diff fluid, and coolant. If the drive belt is cracked or making noise ie squeaking, I would change the belt. I'm guessing the shop recommended the steering gear/rack maybe because it is leaking? Even if it is slightly leaking, you can live with that...just top off the fluid in the reservoir.
