I expect the price of the car to go up a bit too as more power usually means more money. Unless the go skimmpy on the interior. Time for a special edition Z with a SC on the V6 to keep up with the Jones's
|
Well Ford is in the same boat as Nissan, they have to hit that special price point to get the majority of buyers in. I think it will be about on par with the Z though, base GT right around 30k while a premium GT with the works will be in the 40k.

The 4.6 is a great motor, but the 5 liter will be fantastic. More power, more efficient, and higher revs. Oh, it should be a little lighter, too. I am pretty much in agreement with everyone else. The Z is a great car but it's underpowered. The stillen sc kit is pretty much a must for me right now! |

I do not think the Z is at its power, look at people doing just bolt ons, adding 10-15HP per item, plus no tuning software yet to really balance the car out.

This debate will always rage on, Mustang guys don't like Z's, Z's don't like Mustangs. Anyways, concerning the 2011 Mustang yes it is making 412 at crank with the new aluminum 5.0 v8. However, it will still weigh more than the outgoing GT early estimates range from 3600-3800 pounds. Mustangs are heavy, simple fact, no matter how much aluminum they sneak in. Lastly, you cannot discuss Mustangs without bringing up the live axle. The live axle is the #1 reason why Z's are superior in feel and track results. If I had to guess I'd say the 2011 Mustang GT will probably do around mid to low 13's. Ford is not going to mass produce a car that is comparably fast to the GT500 at a fraction of the price and no stock Mustang GT in Ford's history has broken 13's.

The next GT500 will be interesting with the 5.0L and the talk they will be using the ecoboost like in the Ford Taurus SHO. |

pretty informative, they have the curb weight listed at an estimated 3875 |

This car will surprise many, have no doubt. |

I agree. 0 to 60 mph should be 4.6 seconds, maybe 4.5! |

Sorry dude but I have owned and raced GT's, 350Z and 370Z and I will say you aren't "killing" GT's :bs: :bs: :bs:. |

As far as superchargers go, you can order your new 2010 GT with a blower. It's a FRPP kit that is usually dealer-installed before you take delivery. It's fully tuned and warranty supported. |

As I said the GT's before 2005 I would believe the Z to pull but NOT "Kill". BTW the 03 GT's were making about 260 to the wheels not 270. The 2005 made about 265 to 270 to the wheels. The 2006 averaged about 275 to 279 to the rear wheels. The Shelby GT's were putting down 282 to 286 to the wheels...with an occasional Shelby GT freak putting 290 to 292 to the wheels. I would say that the best claims that can be truthfully made by a Z owner is that they were trading noses with the later GT's from 2006 to 2009...they certainly were not "killing" them. ANother FACT...the 2010 Mustang GT's are about 2 to 4 HP short of what the Shelby GT's are making to the wheels. |
I dont know stangs well enough to know them by years but I do know that Im beating the new style stangs which I guess could be the 05 to 09s??? and I pull on them very quickly and by the time we hit 80 -90 (which is where I usually cut it off for safety reasons LOL) Im more than a car ahead. Now I dont doubt I can do that to the 2010 but I havent gone against one yet that I know of. Im sure the 2010 will be about even with our Z. I can only say about the ones I ve had a go with what ever their year was. Take it for what its worth.

The problem is the torque is all there at launch with Mustangs that the clutch has to be feathered into the launch off the line in order to get the tires to hook right away. And this takes an experienced driver to be able to consistently hook more often than not.....not some weekend wannabee...and certainly not by some puzzy-azz rolling start. As I said before and I'll say it again...the best anyone owning a stock Z can say is that on any given run a stock Z or a stock Mustang GT (06-10) can win and most of the time they will be trading noses the majority of a race. There is NO KILLING of a Mustang GT (06-10) by a Z. |
Figured i'd chime in with my .02, my car club usually does drag race night once a month at the local strip, so far I myself, have raced 3 current generation mustang gt's, havent lost yet with my best win being a full second faster, probably a bad driver, but they were all pretty simple wins. I consider a full second "killing" to be honest, but like I said, he probably wasnt the best driver. If you want to have a numbers battle, the Z outperforms the GT from 0-60 Acceleration, 1/4 mile, Slalom, Skid pad, etc. Here is a vid for confirmation. If i'm not mistaken, that is a 2010 GT.

Already got 8k saved specifically for it.:happydance: |
If you are winning by a full second then your competition is lacking in the skill dept. I'm assuming you are talking a full second et to et.
What are you running, btw? A well driven 05-up GT should be good for mid thirteens. |

So again as you stated.....the differences you were involved probably had more to do with the driver than by the cars at all. |

I've yet to race with any kind of weight reduction, seat removal, spare tire, etc, and havent deflated the tires any. I also havent raced with the HFC's and soon to be installed G3's, should be able to get the time down to 13.4/13.3 with cooler temps. And might I also add, for not having an LSD, she drifts like a champ. |

Nice. Those GT drivers definitely need some work. The 05+ are much faster stock for stock than my 2003 was which I had a best stock time of 13.9 with. Most of the good drivers are in the mid 13s in stock form with those cars at 103-105ish. I'd be interested to know what your friend's 60 foots were as that typically is a good indication of whether or not they know what they are doing (especially compared to you if you are clicking off good 60's). |
I think you guys should look at the times my 7 AT 370z sports is running. 12.8009. (elevation 560 ft) (1.97. 60 ft times.)
The time slips are posted in the " drag section ". the car is a stock moter, with stillen exhaust. Berk cats, stillen G3 intake and 4.08 gears. I now have the headers and under size crank pulley, It ran these times on the stock 19 inch factory tires. I now have 18 inch volk t-37's with 305 35 18 drag radials. 12.6;s coming soon. Now when i got to the track the car is lightned by removing the spare tire, front passenger seat, all tools and mats..With the wheels and brail battery the car has lost another 60lbs of weight. I can also tell you that as the moter gets hot the 370z slows down to 12.95 to 13.20. I have played with the ecu with my Cobb and it now has the revlimiter set at 8100. Its alot faster now as i wheel hop in first and second gear. I have made my own fuel map for the car but the timming can be adavance yet. RWHP with out the headers and pully is 292. In 'mm" the tranny shifts hard and fast. A member of our Z club as a 2006 mustang gt and it runs 13.5's to 13.6. It has some mods to it, intake and exhaust. Sam at GTM will have my SC ready for me by mid April, the car will also have a 2800 to 2900 torque converter in it. It should run 11.7's (GTR times). I have found that a lot of guys run there cars at the track all tricked out and tell you thats it bone stock. They run lower air presure in there tires and any thing else that they can think of including a flashed ecu. Its amasing how the guys who think that there cars are fast on the street have cardiac arrest when they get there time slips at the track. Much slower that times that are posted by the car magazines. I can not wait to get my new maps for the Cobb,. If any of the mustang guys want to run me N/A or with the SC please let me know. I look forward to the race at the track. |

I too will be looking closely at the SCs coming out and hope I will be able to afford one. Im looking for more overall HP and TQ gain as a whole thur the whole RPM range on a consistent basis and not an overall HP/TQ peak number. Ive had turbos and not SCs before so Im not real familar with them, so what would be a good HP/TQ gain as a whole thru the RPM range? Again not looking for a peak gain but I guess an average gain that is ther all the time?

*EDIT*
Gah, lots of responses since I typed this - this is in response to Z eliminators post about his drag strip times. Im assuming your 60' times are 1.97...and not .97. That'd make a lot more sense. On the other hand, I cant help but ask...why do we need to look at your times? Anyone with experience knows what the car is "GOOD" to run with a decent driver (I won't touch the whole fact that AT's are easier to launch than the M6). The times you're running seem right on line with what they should be for someone with experience, especially with those big-*** DR's you're using. No surprise on the heat soak issues...thats any car that gets hot, but as we all know, the 370's particularly susceptible to it... I don't know, I guess I'm missing the purpose of the post lol. |
