Default Opinions Wanted

Hello Forum ~

I'm new to the group and I'm seriously considering buying a 370. I wanted to ask a few questions and get your opinions. I figured you guys know more about these cars than anyone else....

First question is what comes additional with the sport package?

Second question is what are your thoughts about the navigation? Is it worth trying to find one with it, or is it just as good to add a new radio to get Nav? I'm torn - the factory nav looks cool but I also like that little storage compartment.

Lastly (for now), I have my eye on a 2009 touring with the sport package that has a cold air intake and about 60K miles on it. I think I can get the car for about $15k and it appears to be very well taken care of. The car is about 6 hours away from me though. Is that a good enough deal to make the trip?

Thanks so much guys~! I am a newbie to the Z cars but I have always liked them. If I get one, it will stay garaged most of the time and will be my weekend/fun car!!

Welcome.

iirc, sports comes with big breaks, 19's and a sports appearance package (spoiler/air dam)

I personally wouldn't go with the navigation system because it integrates everything into that one unit and you'll have difficulty if you ever want to go with an aftermarket stereo.

Hard to say about the price, but again if it were me I wouldn't want one older than 2012. They fixed a few bugs that year and also added a factory oil cooler, which if you had an after-market one wouldn't matter and would work better anyway. I'm not sure about the price. Mine was <3 years old with 18,000 miles on it when I bought it and I paid 22k.

In addition to above the sport also comes with "S mode" when in 6MT trim, and also comes with the viscious LSD. To me, the Sport Pkg is an absolute MUST !!!

However, navigation is all preference, it wasnt a NECESSITY for me when searching... however does update the interior appearance, but as stated above can cause headaches when attempting to upgrade stereo.

I have a 2010 - and have already replaced the diff bushings and CSC on my car, but I dont believe they are any different in the '12 and up models. I do recall the '12 and up models improving the oil galley/gallery gasket, which is a major job, so agreed with above again. Being mechanically inclined, I opted for a 2010, however, if not, then go with a 2012 or above.

Hopefully that helps, can't say about price because there are too many variables to consider... the right car is ALWAYS worth the drive, up to you to figure out if she's the right one or not.

It's worth the trip, there's nothing like owning a Z

Thanks for the responses guys~!! Do all touring models have nav? The guy says it's a touring model with the sport package but it does not have nav - is that possible?

Sorry to blow you up... One more thing - if I had the VIN #, could I found out exactly what the car has? If so, is there a website for that or do you have to go to a dealer?

Thanks again... I have the fever and I don't want to miss what I think is a good deal.

Yes. Navigation was an extra for the touring model, at least for the early Zs.

Crimsone Tide,

I absolutely hate the look of the 370Z interior with the dash cubby hole, my own personal opinion.

So I got the Touring Sport with navigation for several reasons. Being an older retired guy with adequate resources .. I can get what I want and pay cash. The nav unit looks cool and dresses up the center dash (in my opinion even though I will never use it for its intended purpose because the car is just a toy for sunny days and short trips of 50 miles or less).

The Touring Sport gets a whole pile of other upgrades to brakes, wheels, LSD, Bose, heated and cooled seats, etc., and adds to the price tag for sure.

My advice would be to check out each of the car's different option levels, check out the pricing, and then go the direction your heart - but your pocket book can handle comfortably. And if the Z is going to be your daily driver ... consider the cost of premium fuel in the future. I don't need to ... but maybe you do.

Good Luck finding the right car!

Gene

I have a 2009 touring with nav and sport package. I cringe whenever I see a 370 without nav. It just looks so base model and cheap. Get the NAV for that premium feel.

Aftermarket navigation is 100x better than factory. OEM is pretty ancient tech. Personally I sought a car without the tech package so I can use Android Auto which is phenomenal if you use Google Maps, Waze, Spotify, Audible, anything like that.

Sport is worth definitely worth it, it's cheaper than upgrading a base to the same.

I'd never drive 6 hours for a car though unless it was for something new that was exactly what I wanted. It's not THAT rare, and buying that old you're likely buying someone else's problems. I also wouldn't buy anything older than 2012 for the stated reasons.

Thank-you all for your comments.. I'm going to weigh my options and try to make a reasonable decision...

The seller sent me the VIN so I'm going to try and do a little research.

Thanks again~ I look forward to getting a Z (maybe this one!) and being a part of the forum..

Care to send a link of the said vehicle for sale? Some, with a trained eye, may be able to spot some things you might've missed...

Good idea Nick...

What do you guys think?

https://greenville.craigslist.org/ct...673644210.html

I pulled the Carfax and no reports of damage and appears to have been serviced regularly.

I'm down in southeast AL and this is about the best deal that I have found with decent mileage.
