Dealership lost my key. “These things happen”

So long story short took the z to the stealership for minor repair and when I return to pick it up two days later they tell me sorry we lost the key fob to your car. I was like wtf how does that happen?! They told me “these things happen sometimes, sorry”. Give us sometime to locate the key and we will call you when we find them”. Two days later still no key so they offer to replace all keys free of charge. Really?! However they don’t have any on hand at this time and neither does any other Nissan dealer in town. So I have to wait another day so they can order some. I asked for compensation for wasting so much of my time. Service manager offered me $100 discount on service I already paid for. Says anything more would be unreasonable. I find it insulting. My time is worth a little more than that! Am I being unreasonable?

No I would be irate. Couple questions.... You don't have a 2nd fob? And, if they reprogram a new fob, will they reprogram the original frequency on the car? I would feel like if I lost my house key and could not locate, I would change the locks, same rule should apply. It's why my car never leaves my sight. If it does, it's because its sold.

I have been working on getting the z back to stock so I could trade it in. But kinda sucks for the next owner that there is still another key out there somewhere. Today I will find out exactly what they propose to do with new keys.

These things certainly do happen, but that doesn't mean it is acceptable when it does. I hope they take care of you. $100 off your service is not enough if they are going to keep your car for DAYS - unless they want to give you a loaner GTR in the meantime.

They will re-program the car with the new fobs. The old ones won't work anymore after this. No worries in that department.

That’s exactly what they did with keys. Then gave me my car back dirty and with low gas in the fuel tank! Pissed me off even more. Made them take it back and wash and detail it and fill the gas tank. Then they offered some free 30,000mile services in addition to the $100 discount. But I don’t think I’ll ever bring her back to the dealer.

Yup, joy ride time!... Pathetic. No respect for others property. Let's hope it wasn't beat on.

Yeah don't go back there.

Spooler 11-28-2017 10:20 PM

Man, the dealership has issues. This is not the normal.

bimbimbop 11-28-2017 10:43 PM

Damn this sucks so bad...i already hate dealership service areas and refuse to go to them period...you def need more than $100, car wash, and 30,00 mile service. 30,000 service is so minor to begin with that you don't need to pay anyone to do it. Hope you get something to atleast compensate an error of losing a key fob????? that alone boggles my mind

I hate hearing this. :shakes head: I would give the dealership a call and talk to the GM. More than likely since you were being handled by the service Mgr., the GM knows nothing of this. If he or she is any kind of good GM, this is one of the last things they want to hear coming across their desk. It may not help you out now, however down the road it may. Sorry you had to go through this crap. :shakes head::shakes head:

IMO, the car isn't done yet so they gave you the lost key story to buy some time.

If you read further into this thread you will find he got the car back with it dirty and fuel missing. Something isn't quite right with the way they handled their customers vehicle. Not just delayed servicing.

Update! I can not believe what just happened! Driving my nice clean Z with a tank full of gas down highway when I hear a loud noise from the rear then the back end starts pulling violently to the right and then the left off and on. Going 65 or 70 mph with traffic and nearly loose control. I manage to keep from going off the road and roll off the nearest exit as it keeps pulling and making noise every so often until I stop. Scared the **** out of me! I’m so beyond infuriated at the dealership!!! I could could have crashed into some one or been hurt or KILLED! I went and cussed out the service manager and anyone else near by. When I finally calmed down enough they apologized repeatedly and promised to get to the bottom of this and make everything right. Then they handed me my original LOST key!!!!!!!They found it behind a desk or something where it had fallen!?!! WTF!!!! Can’t f@cking believe it! Is this really happening!? They have their best guy working on the car right now to find out what went wrong and fix it. Will discuss any additional compensation after that. I normally avoid going to the dealership if at all possible and the one time I actually give in to let a dealship do a repair that I can’t do myself this happens. And it just keeps getting worse. So frustrated. Thanks for listening to me rant all.

You should be in contact with the GM at that dealership. Don't let them give you any runaround. I'd probably call up Nissan Corporate and let them know how this dealer is treating you as well.
