looks like a rear axle at most, maybe some suspension. some body of course and airbag work. doubt it's a total on a 40k car.

yea i talked to nissan and suspension was damaged..total cost to get it fixed was i think 16 or 17 k..but insurance paid for all the damage.

Glad your mom is alright. And wow, your mom could drive a manual.

What gear was she in when she popped the clutch. I assume she would be at least in 5th gear going 60mph.

I suggest after it's repaired that you don't drive to enthusiastically, that rear suspension is never going to be the same. The term "good as new" doesn't apply when the damange is that extensive. Kind of sucks since it's brand new and the nismos are meant for the track.

Jeeesuz... the armchair detectives sure come out of the woodwork on these types of threads. Regardless of what happened or how it happend, it happened and we have a fellow Z brother sharing the story here. I don't see how "lying" about it serves any purpose to the OP as I doubt any one of us will be called to make any statements to the insurance company handling the accident any time soon. Save your unwarranted judgements.

Also, this talk of not driving your car "enthusiastically" because it's been involved in an accident is crap. It's a Z and not just any Z but a Nismo. There's a reason he chose this car over a Prius. He probably wants to take part in a spirited drive from time to time or even track the car at some point. I have seen plenty of "salvage title" cars running at the track much less normal daily driving and doing quite well. And I'm not talking cars with extensive aftermarket suspension work done. In fact there was a salvage titled Evo IX that was running much better times than I was just on my last track day out. And he was pretty much stock.

The OP's point in sharing this with fellow enthusiasts is not to open himself up to riducule and judgement but to find encouragement with like minded people. Think about how you would feel if this was your Z. With the amount of OCD floating around this place, I'm sure you would feel real discouraged. Now if he was street racing or driving in a manner that exposed an uneccissary risk and had the lack of brain power to actually post something like that up, then go ahead and tear him apart. That's not the case here. Accidents happen.

I understand your point Killa, and to be honest playing detective is useless since the incident has already occured however I disagree with the fact that the car will feel the same. I'm not talking out of my *** I've had multiple cars repaired after accidents some of them my fault, hell many of us here probably went through our dumb renegade immature years. With that said I can tell you as a fact that driving those cars at high speeds afterwards did not feel well. In one case I was rear ended in a 2004 mustang GT, most of the damage was superficial with slight frame damage. It was nowhere near as bad as the OP's case, and I can tell you that you definitely feel the difference. Furthermore the Z's chassis is aluminum so bends and twists are likely to occur and may go overlook. End game here...drive carefully but be realisitic, it won't feel the same.

Buddy borrowed an S2000 from me a few years back, slid off the on ramp and did a measly 3K in damage. Got the car back, pulled to the left. Took it to the shop and they sorted it out but the front end was NEVER the same and that's after 2 bodyshops and 3 dealers tried to fix. Front end had sooo much play that it was no longer fun.

Ended up selling it cheap but I agree that cars rarely recover. Either way, best of luck with the repair and best of luck with your Pops. I'm sure you can get him to reconsider, I know I would for my son.

but i have to work my a$$ of. but its worth it. i love this car

lol I don't think I've read about a car that's just blown up...I feel for the OP, nismo's are great cars and to have it wrecked when it's new really sucks. I'm with you moto if I had serious damage I'd want to sell asap.

glad no one was hurt, main thing. Sorry to see that happen to a nice car like the Zed. Was your mother comfortable driving a manual? Why was the VDC turned off, was she planning or were you planning on letting her go the the track or something? As far as I understand the VDC should be left on for normal drving.
