Buttonwillow is the one that totally messed me up. It felt so flat and clunky

You are going to like Sonoma. After the repave its so much better.

Thill is one of my fav tracks. Its fast and technical. My top has to be Laguna Seca. Which im trying to get to before the rains get here.

Love it! Wish I could afford!!!

So a small update. Ive put about 110+ miles on the new lsd. It is amazing. No whining or any noise. It feels very similar to the vlsd for daily driving. I have a track event coming up in Sept. So I cant wait to test it out.

OptionZero - When I was shopping lsd I was considering the OSGiken, even Z1 said I should go with that. But it seemed like alittle more work for me. So the Wavetrac was right up my alley. Low maintenance and better than the vlsd. Someone had mentioned the car should have came with this. And I cant agree more.

So while the Braum seats are nice and all, you do get what you pay for, I'm seeing some wear on my driver seat after 6 years? (damn i guess i've had these for a while). So I will be re-installing my stock seats once my dad brings the driver seat from their house.

I ordered the CZP shifter boot collar ring which im amazed and glad they decided to do a 3d printed solution. I have a brand new OEM shift knob coming in because i'm just feeling very boring and my original one is long gone by now.

I also have brake fluid and coolant fluid tester kits on the way. I'm sure i need to replace the coolant, but I'd like to just have those tools on hand.

Yes, a number of our veteran users here have OS Giken. Check out the track section and search for "giken" and you should get a bunch of feedback.

It does heat up so it needs a diff cooler. Hardware isn't that bad it seems, but some wiring is needed. You can do an on/off switch or attach it to a temp sensor to trigger at a certain mark. All told, it's another $1,000 on top of the diff, plus you have to use OS Giken fluid and change it every year or so.

Performance wise, it's awesome, but effort is high.

Wavetrack is a compromise. Drop it in, no cooler needed, fluid doesn't need to be swapped nearly as often, and streetable.

I have a VLSD (came with the nismo), which is fine for now since I'm still learning. Next season I will look into stepping up to Wavetrac or OS Giken.

I think I saw you at Thunder Hill - were you at Speed SF earlier in July?

I'm not sure about the yearly oil change in OS Giken LSDs. I have one for 3 years now. I did the first oil change after 500 miles, as break in procedure. The second oil change was then done again after a year, because I swapped the final drive. Next change I plan after 20K miles or so.

Also, OS Giken themselves are saying this:

Quote:

Fluid changes at normal factory intervals: OS recommends the first fluid change after 1 event or 500-1000miles in order to flush out debris left over from the manufacturing process. Subsequent changes are recommended at the normal factory-recommended intervals. Quiet/composed for normal street driving: Since OS LSD offers smooth, progressive locking up to 100% with a low amount of preload, it will feel like an open diff at slow speeds, but will still efficiently transfer power to the ground under load.

abm89 07-31-2024 03:15 PM

GoodNewsEveryone.futurama, I checked the coolant quality with one of those test strip kits and the levels look great! So I will hold off on doing that maintenance. If it aint broke, don't mess with it.

I also received my digital brake fluid tester and the brakes are still good, which was expected since I went to the Z1 calipers last year. The clutch fluid needs to be swapped so I'll work on that this weekend.

Sidenote, I'm glad i went with yellow for my new brake calipers. It gives the car an original look. They clean up really well too.

I picked up my R200 housing from diff specialist today. OS Giken LSD hiding inside. I decided to deal with the extra effort because sliding the car around is occasionally important to me and I don't mind changing fluid more regularly.

Can't wait to get it bolted back in and rip some skids (on the track). Car's been on axle stands for a number of weeks now sorting things out and waiting for parts.

You will enjoy it. Make sure you use the OS Giken diff fluid and it will not act clunky.

I want to put an OSG in my car, but it'd be a waste considering i don't really track it anymore.

What's not a waste was the effort spent on putting my stock seats back in. I'll contact braum about a re-upolstery kit, if not ill take them to a local shop to put some quality material on them. I also managed to install the shift boot collar and stock shift knob.

The upside is that i'm almost down to zero DTC codes, just the power steering pressure switch and the passenger airbag off light. The latter is because the dash was taken off so many times that the harness broke. I need to find that connector.

abm89 08-02-2024 12:39 PM

Yeah, I'm probably to going to have to buy a full or partial body harness for the dash to replace what i need and i'm not THAT committed. Maybe when i decide to replace the top portion of the dash I'll do it. I already have the PS switch sensor in the box full of parts that go with the front-motor maintenance (water pump thermostat, hoses, gallery gaskets, etc). Again, I kinda don't want to break the seal of that motor if nothing is wrong right now.

Averying 08-03-2024 10:28 AM

Finally got some necessary maintenance done on the Z.

-new RTV gasket on lower oil pan.
-3 new O rings on the oil filter relocation adapter
-rerouted 6AN power steering line directly to rack (removed OEM hardline)
-replaced oil temp sensor
-refilled with Castrol Edge 5w40 Euro Blend

Installed new "Z" dipstick handle (had to destroy the old yellow one to install this from Zspec) Also installed the Zspec titanium engine clips in red, which look great and make for easier removal!! Make sure to install them correctly so they hold. (I had to reinstall most of them) Then went to cars and coffee in Des Moines, which was insanely full this day!!

Finally put on the illuminated kick panels I bought a few years ago. Used the same occasion to run the power for the Hudway Drive HUD.

Joined the Kickstarter May of Last year - and just got it. HUDWAY cautioned me about dash compatibility when I told them the front sits low since the Z has the instrumental panel on the steering column. It works fine, just needs a shim. Right now I have a cardboard wedge wrapped in duct tape wrapped in electrical tape between the mount and the gauge pod with the lip centered on the tach. Once I get it dialed in, I'll sticky it down (probably with two sided velcro from the wings and front rather than their provided 3M) and make a post. Getting OBD-2 from the included BT dongle, too.

abm89 08-25-2024 12:52 PM

The parts box finally paid off today. I was wiping down the engine bay and punctured the coolant overflow tank. 30 minutes later, it's like nothing happened.

I also thought something was wrong with my fuel pressure. It was reading low on the gauge, but i checked the data logs and everything was fine. Turns out the extreme heat evaporated the fluid that USED to be in the Tomei gauge haha. I'll take any recommendations on replacement gauges if anyone has one they like.

Speedhut gauges. I have 3 of them. Very happy with them. You can set a low and high pressure warning on them.

abm89 08-25-2024 06:33 PM

ahh, i was hoping they were under-the-hood gauges, but if i do that, i might as well just wire a sensor into my dash.

abm89 08-28-2024 02:29 PM

I looked around and Aeromotive is reputable so i will give them a try! down the line, i'll do the wiring to the Haltech. It's just too damn hot for me to want to mess with it.

Just ordered OEM V1 Nismo kit (except the wing) and wheels. Converting wife’s V2 into a V1. Wish me luck.

Good labor day weekend. Took the Z out to Thunderhill Raceway. Car feels great and I was able to PB. The wavetrac lsd is def better than stock. Feels like the car has more hp. I am looking forward to more seat time with this car.:driving:

Averying 09-04-2024 07:25 AM

What did you do with your Z today V (ON TOPIC DISCUSSION ONLY)

Been tracking down power steering leaks for a while now. Finally decided to just rebuild the system.

New low-pressure 3/8” hose and constant-tension clamps installed from cooler to reservoir, and from rack to cooler. I ditched all the hardline and various connections and ran a single 3/8” hose from rack to cooler.

I’m having a crimped line made at a hydraulic shop tomorrow to replace my DIY 6AN line for the high pressure line. I’m also running a single hose for high pressure, directly from pump to rack with a Chase Bays steering rack 6AN adapter fitting.

Hoping that I can avoid leaks in the future by having a simpler system with less connections/junctions. I plan to upgrade the cooler in the future, but that’s a super easy install for this winter.

Z1 Drive belt installed at 155K miles. now waiting for fedex to get me my front endlinks. Ill keep the SPL endlinks as these are not broken and probably just need servicing (if that's even possible).

abm89 09-05-2024 04:17 PM

Never mind. Parts got delayed so I'm leaving the car on stands.

edit: i just buttoned up everything else. Ill do the endlinks later

What was the condition of the old belt? I dont think ive changed any belts.

cv129 09-09-2024 02:35 PM

Patiently waiting for Z1 to send out the OEM V1 kit and wheels. To my surprise, rear bumper is showing “back ordered”, as everything else seems to be ready to go.

Unpainted Ikon wing and black Nissan emblems have arrived. Painted black door handles on the way. Going to try some different options on center caps (Nissan is gouging on one’s color matched to 13/14 Nismo wheels, it’s like $50+ EACH).

Wife’s car is black. Still deciding on painting the kit just black like the 2013, or the 2 tone black/gray like the 2014.

It was OK. I previously replaced the belt at 90k which was factory recommended. This one has some wear but no major cracking. The outside of the belt looked pretty faded

Two tone on the bottom is cool, but paint the wing body color. I think that's where Nissan missed it

Yup, replace per factory interval or 10 years max, cheap insurance especially if running on the track where you're going home when it breaks.

Finally took the time to rip out the stock headlights and put some time into them!

I went with:

Morimoto D2S 5.0 projectors
Krylon Fusion Satin Black to go over the chrome garbage
Krylon Fusion Metallic Dark Metal to go over the bezels
Morimoto RetroRubber Butyl Glue
Nissan 370z to D2S 5.0 / G5 Brakets
Diode Dynamics HP5 LED Pure White 194 bulbs

Tools:

Morimoto SealSplitter - This is the best $14 spent for headlight work!! Get one!

Compression Clips - These help when resealing
Large white Zip Ties - These also help when resealing

These lights are a F'n nightmare... everything takes 3-5x longer than anticipated... Memorable moments include - little stupid things like the drivers side headlight removal has these awkward plastic clips from the wire harness into the side of headlight...the headlights barely fit in oven!! and resealing them = takes a few shots of in the oven + pushing clear lens + tightening zip ties, then back in oven, then adding screws, tightening...

For those wanting to embark on this adventure - just beware: plan to have several days off work - I took 4 days because I'm old/slow!

Day 1 = Bumper drop/headlight removal/disassembly of all parts
Day 2 = Painting bezels/country club chrome - 24 + hours to outgas/dry - I let them sit in the sun both outside and inside the house
Day 3 = Re-assembly/reinstall
Day 4 = Refinish external housing - 600-800-1000-1500 grit, 3m hard plastic and lens finish (this you MUST use on a buffer/drill - you WANT HEAT!!!) - once done - you'll have a CLEAR lens!! If you don't - then keep buffing!! If the lens is hazy - do not "just" spray the Meguiars finish. Final step: Alcohol wipe, then Meguiars headlight finish....

Now I finally have that Acura Tsx/S2000 clear cutoff... I am running some old bulbs but once I update those I'll get everyone a photo of the cutoffs...

Here is the finished light:

http://www.the370z.com/attachment.ph...1&d=1706736601

I was going to put some Morimoto profile pivot strips with the super strip covers over them so you're not looking at a WHITE LINE... however I wanted them horizontal mounted like the Supras... and well... just ran out of time to mount them properly and they do not flex/bend AT ALL to make the curve towards the parking light... so those are sitting here doing nothing...

If I add everything up - including the profile strips I didn't use - and trips to the hardware store - I think I spent about $450 roughly... still better than $1450 for the Morimotos...

This is really a time vs. $$$ thing... If you have time - do the retro - if you're rushed - bite the bullet and get the morimotos or try to drive a second car and send your lights off in the mail and have someone else do them.

Did you switch to STI-R lenses and if so, did you use any spacers?

abm89 10-01-2024 10:22 AM

i'm tempted to mess with my original lights now that i have them off the car. I'd love to retrofit a new projector with updated HIDs on it. I guess it's just money and time at this point.

I did some experimentation with that Muffler deadening wrap on my "delete" pipe for the motordyne. It did taper the sound a bit, but the tone is still crap. I will instead just go back to the original. No big deal.

Meawhile, I'm going to replace the clutch pedal switch/stoppers and give the car a wash.

From experience I suggest the Lasfit LED conversion with STi lenses over HID's.
