Help! The great Debate 370z vs. G37

2008 G37s has the 6speed MT - which my wife is not looking forward to driving
2009 370z has the 7speed AT with paddle shifters. My wife is a fan of those.

zmyride 12-11-2009 12:27 AM

Easy choice.

One is a sport car.
The other one is a wannabe.

Do you want a sport car or a wannabe?

And if you don't know which one is a sport car...sorry i can't help then.

oo7mech 12-11-2009 12:30 AM

There is my problem.
I got the Z because we [wife and i] wanted a sport car.
But we like the "Wannabe" because its soo loaded!

tbonesteak 12-11-2009 12:37 AM

considering the hit you'll take by selling the G, i'd say keep the G. You WILL miss the features.

phelan 12-11-2009 12:40 AM

...why did you just buy two cars within a one week timespan?? i can't even begin to fathom that one.

if both you and your wife will be driving, keep the 370Z. sure you'll miss the features, but at least your wife won't be whining about how much she hates the manual transmission.

AMCPacer 12-11-2009 01:00 AM

I'd keep the G37, especially if it was used as a daily driver. The luxury features would be difficult to give up.

TacoZ 12-11-2009 02:08 AM

Please pick the G37. I don't want to see another 370Z on the road. The less 370Zs on the road, the better ;)

shumby 12-11-2009 03:40 AM

teh G give the perfect line between a sports car and a luxurary car. Is it pure sport no. Is it still sporty and fast yes. I and the wife want the Lux along with the sport so it was the G that won. Plus it is nice to haver the back seat or short trips to the scity with a friend or 2 and the wife has the FX50 to work.

rcm2525 12-11-2009 04:40 AM

GEEEEE.....Get the G

MightyBobo 12-11-2009 07:18 AM

Oy, I wouldn't call the G37 a WANNABE car - it does what it was designed to do very well. A Luxo-sport car with plenty of comfortable options.

You'll probably suck up a huge loss from the 370, but either car is going to hurt getting rid of. I'd probably stick with the G, myself.

Why did you buy 2 vehicles?

Zsteve 12-11-2009 07:24 AM

trade em both in for a GTR

TipsZ 12-11-2009 07:27 AM

I prefer the external styling of the Z over the G, however the amenities of the G do make it appealing. I would prefer a manual over an automatic just for sporty driving. Tough decision, but if you do not make the wife happy .. YOU won't be happy. HA

Without going into the long detailed story. Right now NEITHER car is mine. We have to go back today to resign contracts on the Z which means I could possibly return it.

The G is on loan until my wife can sign her part of the paper work today.

puckshaw 12-11-2009 07:57 AM

Why didn't you just buy a loaded Z to start with

For this being a 370z forum. I thought yall would be chanting ZEE ZEE ZEE
or thrown down an Irish car bomb yelling " ZIGGY ZIGGY ZIGGY ZIGGY OYI OYI OYI, ZIGGY ZIGGY ZIGGY ZIGGY OYI OYI OYI "

I could understand not wanting more Zs to make our car more rare. But its not the BASE BASE model. just the interior is base. So its not a little rich college girl's car.

Wife is split like I am. She wants to look sexy while driving the Z. But we both love our options in the G.
"why didnt we buy the fully loaded Z?"

We couldn't afford the fully loaded Z. Hence why the G is used.

370Zsteve 12-11-2009 08:23 AM

It's such an easy choice, for anyone buying either of Nissan's hot cars:

If you need it for a DD, if you need to carry stuff or passengers, get the G. If you have another car to carry stuff or passengers, get the Z. Simple. Next!

dudafunk 12-11-2009 08:28 AM

I went thru the SAME Exact dilemma. New Z vs. old G for the same price.

I decided to not go for the G, these were my conclusions, of course very personal to me:

- External looks, Z wins. Wife will surely look sexy in it.
- Keeping my old 4 seater so '2 seater being inconvenient for trips to the city' eliminated, Z wins
- When I get older, I would go for an even more luxurious car than the G. Plenty out there. I'm a fan of great interiors (incidently I was the one who started the wood trim in the Z thread..LOL! because I was going thru the exact same problem of the Z not being luxurious from the inside).. Z wins
- When I get older, no offense to anyone, it'd be nice to not be associated with a mid life crisis. Z wins at age 24 :)

Z now, luxury car later. Hope that helps.

Agree with everything except the mid-life crisis. What, I can't drive this beautiful car because I'm 55? WTF? I'm gonna leave all this FUN to a bunch of Generation-XXXX n00bs? :shakes head: :gtfo2:

geez jk don't flame don't hate I love you all. :icon17:

sinceday1 12-11-2009 09:02 AM

I'll have to agree with 370zsteve on that one. I dont understand what really constitutes as a 'mid life crisis' and whether it really exists! it's an urban myth in my book! What's wrong in someone wanting to drive a sports car when they're not in Teens, 20s,or even 30s? Maybe circumstances prohibited them to owning one. Maybe they simply love sports cars in general.. I'm 25. So no, my defence is not from experienced knowledge but I can say it isn't biased. :tiphat:

ANYWAYS to OP.
like everyone else said. If you have things to carry, get G, if not Z.
Both are amazing cars and I contemplated the exact same. (But up here in Canada, we do not have "Base" Z.)
Styling on Z is definitely much nicer than G IMO stock v stock but i think modified G looks as nice :)

Hmm!! Nice ideas there. I am 25. We already have a 4 door sedan. We plan on having kids in 5 years when its time for a new car/suv later.
Luxury later... i like that!

TipsZ 12-11-2009 09:46 AM

Well .. I'm in my midlife crisis time-frame (actually farther if you count all of my relatives not living past 70).. and the Z is my savior!!

areyouin729 12-11-2009 10:09 AM

pretty simple...

Nissan wants Z owners to eventually become G owners

sounds like you want to be a G owner

Hey, as long as she's still willing to put up with the manual transmission and not complain, go for the G. Otherwise...it's gonna be a looooooooooong drive together when she's driving.

Just imagine the :argue: over the manual transmission.

Honestly, though, it sounds like you're already leaning towards the G anyway, so enjoy your Infiniti :p

chief_Roka 12-11-2009 10:19 AM

2 seat sports cars excel in lower speed, handling prowess. (Taking corners and high spirited maneuvers.) GT cars are performance cars designed for piercing curvy roads and hard twists. GT's are less agile in cornering and extreme driving maneuvers while GT's are more comfortable in the twisties at higher speeds due to the more stable nature of its overall performance. A true enthusiast would know this... the wannabe would be the person that called the GT car a "WANNABE" sports car???
I myself cancelled my Z pre order and bought a G. (Mainly cuz I was saving 6k on a brand new G which put it in Z pricing with so much more for my $$$$$. Now I'm in a similar situation as you cuz I'm selling my altima to buy a Z. But I'm keepin my G as well. I figure I'll heavily modify the G and lightly modify the Z. I feel the Z is great for what it is and needs little done to it.
The cons to the G imho is...
The steering wheel is less weighted, so it feels slightly less sporty. Longer wheelbase which means wider turning radius, though the G turns mad tight for what it is. (I recommend aftermarket susp set up on G as a ASAP mod.) Lastly the heavier weight makes it feel too stable if u r looking for the jumpy feel of a true sports car. (I think the jumpiness increases fun to drive factor)
The pro's are. Way more features for your dollar. Same engine power delivery. Feels just as fast as Z on highway. Handles better on roads as an everyday car. Better sounding exhaust than Z (subjective). Way more comfy than a Z while still keeping a serious sports car feel.( though a Z is pretty comfy for what it is)

Cons of Z. No back seats. Depending on who is driving,The Z can be awkwardly jumpy and unpredictable
Pros of Z. Short wheelbase makes low speed handling super fun. Screaming engine, louder than G. (That's subjectively a positive for me). Heavy azz steering wheel makes handling the Z awesome and kinda tips the scale Z way.
BUT, I REALLY HAVE NO REGRETS on the G. It is the better all round car though "not" the better sports car. But the differences are pretty minor unless u r on a track.
Me personally, I'm going to sell my altima and re order my Z. I rather not trade because I will lose $4k by doing so. But I'm going to change it from blk chrry to 40th ann.
In a nutshell, the G is a better planted driving car. But in the Z u feel better planted as a driver. Its one of those weird situations that makes it hard to choose...
I guess if I had to give advice. I say go with the G since you will have more room and will have 90% Z feel and 50% more features. You have both cars in your possession so u already know, but sometimes its good to get other perspectives. :) hope this helped?

JakeZ34 12-11-2009 10:19 AM

sorry OP it might sound like I'm flaming you but I'm not. Just pointing out the obvious. CARS are the WORST WORST WORST investments. The value never goes up. So I don't even know why the hell you got 2 cars to begin with, try to resell those would only make their price go down once it's off the dealer lot. But it's your choice, do you want luxury or just a better looking / faster car? I'd take the 370Z anyday.

Red370 12-11-2009 10:23 AM

sounds like you guys are a young couple, get a car that exudes your youth, go for lux when you're older or when the baby factory opens shop :)

feelzpwr91 12-11-2009 11:13 AM

your essentialy choosing between twins, if your so intrigued on luxary go with the G, if you want an adrenaline rush take the Z
