I went through 3 sets of OEM potenzas and never had any issues, this past summer I switched to Nismo wheels with Michelin PSS so we will see if I get any flat spots this year. But with the potenzas 6 months at a time I never had any flat spots.

I think they are concerned about having the suspension with no load on it. But IMO that won't hurt it, that's like saying the the parts in the package waiting for purchase or install etc. would be damaged as they are not under load either.
