ConchZ2 12-01-2009 06:40 AM

My first was……………a white (new) 1981 Mazda RX-7. I have to scan a photo.
I used to look at 280ZX’s in my rear view mirror all day long! It had a few mods!!

ConchZ2 12-01-2009 06:48 AM

It was similar to this…………

Mine was 1972 240Z.. found it in a lady's gararge in 1985..I was 16... Her son had bought it brand new in 1972 and then was killed overseas 2 months later... had about 5 covers on it and 800 miles.. She just let it sit for 13 years...

kenchan 12-01-2009 07:22 AM

Mine was a 90 civic hb bought new. Was a nice car. My current dd (FitSport) reminded me of it so got 2 of them. :p. One for me one for the wife.

Leading up to the Z... Always wanted a 2 seater. Having great experience with my G35C, it just came naturally. My other serious option was the next gen S2000 (S3000 V6?) that was suppose to launch soon...but canned by the economy.

Wow, a story of Garage Legend. Tell us what had to be done to the car to make it roadworthy. Was it a rustbox?

1983 Nissan Sentra.
My parents bought it for me when I graduated high school because I had a full ride scholarship to college. It was the least expensive car on the market at the time, $4949. No AC, no radio, no options.

Over the 4 years of college, I worked a few jobs to pay to mod it out, before modding was even really popular.
Riken wheels (rwd offset in the back for a lip!)
Kamei front airdam for an 80 celica
rear spoiler
test pipe
ansa exhaust
flipped the air cleaner lid for more air induction
Killer stereo with a 12" sub which was unheard of at the time
1/2 ohm bose aftermarket amp and speakers
concord head unit
and I'm sure some other stuff I have forgotten.

It was pretty quick too. I actually raced and beat 2 different 240sx turbos!

I waxed it weekly and it still looked brand new when it got stolen.

I've loved Nissans ever since.

I had a 1980 RX7. First foreign car, first small car, first well handling car. Loved it with the heat of a thousand suns. :D

probably a drain and flush of all fluids.. especially the coolant. sitting that long can rust away all your internals. new water pump, thermostat, wow i could go forever.

in the end, what a treasure of a find though

areyouin729 12-01-2009 11:10 AM

I had a 1989 Dodge Dynasty

thing was pimpin back in 99/00 for Jun/Sen yr of high school

Yeah, it had the orignal tires, etc.. I basically replaced all hoses, flushed all the fluids, new tires.. It was in the south so I never found any rust at all :)
I wish I still had it.. Now I'm looking for another 240..Hopefully fully restored too..I just dont have the time to do a restoration project...
If I can find a pic of it I will post it.. the wife thinks she knows where some are.:ughdance:

My first one

My first one was a red 1979 Rx7. I loved that car. But I used to like the 240s as well. Some folks in Maryland where I lived had some tricked out 240s and they were really fast.

I bought a new RX-7 GSL-SE in 1985, I loved that car too :)

First car, a '57 MGA in 1966 for $125. First Z, a 260 bought new in 1974 for $5000

First car

After I was hit on the Washinton Beltway I-495, and had the car fixed, my girl friend talked me into trading it in on a Toyota Celica. Should have kept the car and traded...When she found someone else, I bought a gold 1980 Rx7 4 speed and moved to California. I had to sell it (mistake again) but eventually bought a used silver 1979 Rx7. I kept it a while and then bought a used 1984 RX7, black with red leather, and finally the 1986 blue Rx7 I traded in on the 2009 370Z. I wanted another Rx7 but the Rx8 just wasn't the same. I am very happy with the Z.

Room42 12-01-2009 03:55 PM

First z fell thru my hands. A 260 transported from Michigan to Florida. Looked great until I checked under. Big time rust bucket. But finally in 09...

FricFrac 12-01-2009 06:09 PM

Very cool - lots of RX-7 Gen I guys here - interesting ;)

Attachment 7141this is not mine of course, but this is what it looked like

nicknick 12-01-2009 06:42 PM

Mine was a 1973 red 240z with a 2.8 litre engine, koni adjustable shocks all round, 5speed, lightweight simmons mags with falken low profile tiles, progressive rate springs, full exhaust system and cam. The car was completely stripped and sandblasted and resprayed with a nice thick glossy baked enamel. Oh and it did not have a cracked dash. Loved that car and I wished I never sold it. So this is why I have the Zed thing inside me.

NYBladeZ 12-01-2009 06:44 PM

2000 v6 Mustang convertable...followed with a 2004 Mustang GT, after a drunk driver totalled it (worst night of my life) I decided it would be best to invest in my education. 5 years later started law school and got myself the Z.

gleonard 12-01-2009 06:56 PM

1976 Buick Regal, I bought for $75 while I was in highschool in 92'. Had four flat tires.

Around the same time my dad and I rebuilt a 1964 (I think) volkswagon bug. Fiberglass buggy body kit. Counter weighted the crank, racing cam with high duration/lift lobes, high compression valve springs, ported/polished heads, Italian made dual carburetor, lightened flywheel, no muffler just straight from the manifold to a single stinger exhaust (it was loud and didn't sound like an old Bug), and a few other things I'm probably forgetting

That thing hauled *** for a Bug, it was the most fun car I had to drive until I got the Z.

Here is my first, my 1981 Mazda RX-7 GS…………….Car Bras were popular back then!

Dwight Frye 12-01-2009 08:52 PM

I have owned a lot of nice cars but my first true 2 seat sports car was a 1984 Mazda RX7 GSL-SE. Silver w/red leather and it was a beauty. It was the first with the 13B engine and the SE model had larger wheels & tires, brakes, heavier anti-sway bars, better clutch and limited slip rear end. It was a real bullet. At about 85K miles though, it developed a serious howl in the rear end and I was looking at about $1800 to fix it so I traded it in for a '92 Toyota MR2. That was a fun car too but underpowered. Another 50 horses or the turbo version would have been something else.

PapoZalsa 12-01-2009 09:29 PM

I always like the Supras, love the RX-7s and the Zs. My first Z was 1990 300ZX 2+2, then last year finally bought an used 350Z, now I will have a brand spanky new 370Z.

Planning to keep it for a long time!

bullitt5897 12-01-2009 10:13 PM

first vehicle was a '96 chevy 1500 with a corvette engine in it. My first sports car was a 2001 BULLITT mustang :D I built it to 400hp  until some A HOLE ran a red light at 70mph and totaled it :(

NYBladeZ 12-01-2009 10:22 PM

bullit, I'm with you, I'm still a big fan of the 4.6L's

PyroCustoms 12-01-2009 10:39 PM

First car I drove: CJ7.

Forrest 12-01-2009 10:40 PM

the first car that lead me to want a sports car was a 1996 Saturn SC1.

Why would a saturn SC1 make me want a sports car?
It had 1.3 Litre engine. It had i think 110 Horse power or so it claimed. It coudlnt go up a hill more than 45mph on the freeway with just ME in it. It did get like 40mpg+ .

Anyways it made me sick to my stomach every time i had to go up a hill and pres down on the pedal and the dam thing didn't move.

After that the desire for a real car was created, owned a 350z now a 370z.

Lol - if we want to go there my first car I drove was a silver Diesel Volvo 240GLE then an old '81 Chevy heavy half ton truck

Labrex 12-02-2009 01:51 AM

1998 Ford F-150 and then the 370Z. I only test drove it for about 5 minutes and was so tired of spending so much time searching for a new car, that I just bought it. Still don't know why I did it, but I love it.

schrute 12-02-2009 02:21 AM

The "kids car" in my family when I got my license at 16 years old was a 1980-something VW Rabbit (Diesel).

http://i21.photobucket.com/albums/b2...os/number1.jpg

I can't remember how cheap Diesel was back in the '90s but it was definitley less than $1/gal. and that car got crazy mileage. I could afford to drive it even on my part-time income from The Gap, LOL.

One day on the way home from work the head gasket blew and I parked it on the side of the road and walked the rest of the way home (before cell phones, LOL). When my Dad got home from work that night I told him what happened, he called someone to arrange a tow and I never saw that car again - still not sure what happened to it.

First vehicle I bought myself was an '89 Nissan Hardbody Pickup.

http://blogs.cars.com/.a/6a00d83451b...33d5970c-800wi

The Hardbody (funny name, LOL) was a great truck. It was my first Nissan and my Z is my 7th. My wife's had a few Nissans as well - between us we've had 11.

shumby 12-02-2009 02:47 AM

This might be of interest to all the former RX-7 owners.
A camouflaged Roadster-bodied prototype has been spotted on the test track and two experimental models of the 16X rotary engine are being tested at the moment. The 16X rotary engine is of particular interest, it’s said to produce around 270ps and be 20% more economical on fuel thanks to direct injection and rapid combustion technology. Capacity is increased over the 13B coming in at 800cc x2 and will remain naturally aspirated. HA are quick to add that the 16X will certainly change the perception of the rotary engine as a gas guzzler to one that can produce high power and be light on fuel. Power will be transmitted through a world-first manually adjustable twin-clutch SMG. A dial on the center console will allow the driver to select various modes and while in “Auto” it will engage with precisely the right amount of pressure according to normal driving RPMs. If the RPM exceeds the amount designated for that particular mode, the clutch will automatically increase pressure to compensate. In “Sports” mode greater pressure is applied in the same way but without the reduced drivability that comes with a heavier clutch.
The 2012 RX-9’s chassis is said to be a totally new design and will focus on maximum weight saving which will also dictate the use of resin and aluminum panels for the body. Weight is expected to be around 1200kg and only slightly heavier than the current model Roadster. HA say that according to their source, out of all the designs for the new RX-9 that have appeared in various magazines the one pictured below is closest to what the RX-9 should look like.
0 to 60 should be 4.5 or lower.

My high school cruiser was a $900 special:

http://mysite.verizon.net/restm6j9/s...G.w300h225.jpg

Spent most of my time trying to keep it running.
When it did, it was a lot of fun, but that old 350 was mighty thirsty for a kid sacking groceries.

zmyride 12-02-2009 05:55 PM

A couple friends of mine in my high school drove the 280Zs back in the late 80s. Everyday after school I would watch them drive their Z out of the school's parking lot with their hot girlfriends. And when I saw those two girls, I knew someday I had to get a Z. Being a geek that I was, I never had a girlfriend in high school and I always dreamed of how cool I would look if I owned a Z like my friends. Somehow the "Z" always stucks on my mind. But now that i'm married, I don't need a Z to impress girls. I just want to own one so I can have fun and pretend like I am 18 again.

And if i ever see those two friends again, I will make sure my Z will smoke them to dust unless they drive a Lambo or Ferrari.

That car looks like the one my high school sweetheart had……………1970 Camaro!

Liquid_G 12-03-2009 03:14 PM

My first car was an 83 Olds Cutlass.. not the one with the 442 or anything cool like that.. it was a POS 6 cyl that had like 8 hp. seriously it was like 30 seconds 0-60 time. The engine started rod knocking like 2 weeks after buying it so i had it rebuilt.. the night i picked it up from being rebuilt i crashed it into a parked car.. 16yr old = dumbass. Drove the crap out of it with half a bumper and a junkyard hood.

My first car that I really ever started Modding was my 07 Maxima..

http://i333.photobucket.com/albums/m...a/maxmeet2.jpg
http://i333.photobucket.com/albums/m...a/maxmeet1.jpg

Had intake/spacers/Nismo exhaust from the 3.5 altima, audio, hid's, lots of other stuff.. Went to several local Nissan/Infiniti meets and started to really want a 350z.. Then the 370's came out and I was hooked.. Traded in the Max for my Z in August.

jookiyaya 12-03-2009 03:24 PM
