Removing chrome from plastic emblems?

Hi guys. I'm going to remove, paint, and clear coat my hamburger "Nissan" emblems to match my car. Does anyone have any experience removing the chrome finish before using primer?

I'm going to remove, paint, and clear coat my hamburger "Nissan" emblems to match my car. Does anyone have any experience removing the chrome finish before using primer? I've heard people leaving them sit in bleach for a few days.
