If the noise is coming from the back part of the car it's the fuel pump isn't it?

I have a feeling i'm hearing the fuel pump... it's loud at a cold start and then dies away... after awhile i can only hear it when i've pulled up at the lights which is different from most of you guys...

Silver37 05-20-2010 09:54 PM

You Z guys need to get your service folks to work with Consumer Affairs like those of us on the G side have. I went to my service guy first and mentioned that I saw there was a fix for the problem. He discussed with the CA folks when he saw them and he called me in for the fix. I've seen where some others have gone straight to the CA folks first, and that may work, but I felt that I owed it to my service guy to go to him first since he had done a great job on everything else that I brought him, and I had already had him hunt for the problem before.

cubarican84 05-20-2010 10:12 PM

You will know for sure if noise is there

If it doesnt drive you madd then you are not reffering to the sound that some of us are... If you have good enough hearing it is an ear splitting noise that ruins the experience of driving the Z. Not subtle at all, and not present in every Z. So to those who don't hear it, it's not an issue for you. No use in trying to "listen" for it as a precaution. Like i've PM'd many of you, it is a problem that nissan has acknowledged and is covered under your warranty. As far as part numbers there seems to be a slite discrepency over what the fix is. I know for me, the part number ended in 3b. My drive home after having the part replaced was both a relief and a "re-bonding" ride with my beloved Z.

Thanks everyone for their input in solving this issue. I thought I had hearing problems and glad to know it's not my ears that's busted.

I brought my car into the dealer and they can't hear it, anyone have any tips on how to help out the technicians to hear the sound, its very likely because they work in a loud environment their hearing deteriorated over time. I called Nissan and they couldn't help me they said they rely on the dealerships to diagnose the issue. If they can't replicate the problem nothing can be done.

If anyone knows any helpful tips or people to call that would be great.

Thanks

Tell them to put a young person in the car, preferably a young female, even if they have to grab someone out of sales. They can pick up on the sound pretty easily.

Older service techs simply can't hear that frequency.

spearfish25 07-18-2010 11:22 AM

My high frequency noise has gone away. Not sure WTF happened, but it's just simply gone now.

I hope that happens with mine. I just noticed mine starting to get it..8000 miles. I really don't want to have to deal with getting it fixed. If i turn the radio up (which it usually is) I don't notice it but if I have the radio down, and I'm sitting (not driving) its noticeable. Frustrating!!!

I'm old. Maybe mine will go away too.

m4a1mustang 07-18-2010 10:40 PM

Mine has officially brainwashed me. I sell Nissan's in my spare time now.

The BlueMax 07-18-2010 10:53 PM

I've heard it before but only once in a while and its not too uptrusive, usually in the garage before I shut off the engine

fairladyZ34 07-18-2010 11:08 PM

i didnt notice it until a little while ago because i usually have music on or the windows down. i hear it now but its somewhat faint and no one else really noticed it except for one girl

Funny thing is I did recommend that and they seem somewhat offended and just replied no one is available otherwise they don't want to waste time on this and want to move on. It's frustrating to go back and forth with the dealers and they think your crazy or annoying.

To be honest I don't hear all the time but when I do it bugs the crap out of me and you know what you buy a new car you don't want one that is broken in any way and it's simply about principle for me. The manufacturer can at least address the issue rather than play dumb. I'll try again but I hope a TSB is up which I doubt cause the ECU is pricey. Hopefully before my warranty expires lol

Thanks everyone for their help!

TamZ 09-10-2010 08:55 PM

Sorry to revive an old thread but this was the most recent one I could find when I searched.

I am sad....

My Car now has the annoying high frequency noise. I hear it whenever the car is moving..as I come a stop, you hear it stop..when I go, just nearing 1000rpm..off it starts again... It's especially aggravating when I turn to look out my drivers window and my right ear faces the passenger side front/glove box area. It's becomes even louder.

I have only driven the car a few times in town since my Vegas trip (the high frequency noise started long before my oil temp vegas trip issue). It's going in to have the oil changed, the rear hatch issue fixed (hopefully) and I'm going to try and get them to listen to this high frequency noise. I know some people say its not that bad. But for me, it is. And now..its all I seem to hear, now that it's happening. I have 9300 miles on the car...seems like it started around 8000 mile-ish. I was SO crossing my fingers that I wouldn't get this noise. Sucks :(

I went to the Mercedes dealer because my H2 keeps having issues and is on it's last leg. Drove a GL450. Only problem is, my husband may say I have to get rid of the Z. It's a tough call, I'm becoming so frustrated with my little issues on this car. I LOVE MY CAR :( But...

USMCASA 09-11-2010 08:32 AM

wish i could say it goes away with time/mileage but i have 41k on mine now and its still there.

Sigh...

If they FIX it, I'll be fine. I'm just SO not looking forward with fighting with them to get them to replace whatever an ECU is (which seems to be what I've read when I searched the problem on here.) I don't have TIME to be back and forth to the dealer, I'm in nursing school! Ugh.... In my dream world, they sit in the car, hear it immediately and say, "we'll fix it right away" and all will be well with the world.

Ya right.

Ya right.

the trick is to get them to sit in the car and agree theres an abnormal sound there that needs fixing. I had this old guy sit in my car the first time and needless to say all i got was some skeptical looks. then i went to another branch and had this younger guy listen. without revealing too much info at first i asked him whether he heard anything and where he thought it was coming from. and viola he actully identified the sound and the area it was coming from.. then i promptly whipped out the stack of printouots relating to this problem from this forum (and there is alot). haha i think he had not much choice but to concur with me from that point!

well then they did some mandatory sound tests (they still didnt believe it was the ecu intiially) and eventually replaced my ECU with that from a newer Z.

and the sound is absolutely and completely gone!

after my complaint he went around testing the other Zs and apparently the vast majority of 09 370zs have this problem, some louder, some softer. GTRs have it as well

all the best in getting ur problem sorted out. i know i felt immense relief when i had mine fixed.

Paskii 09-20-2010 11:58 AM

I actually brought my car in today to get it fixed for this problem and they claim they fixed it by reprogramming the ECU. Not sure if it works but I'll let you guys know. So if you have the COBB may be possible to reset the ECU and solve the problem?

Got back from the dealership, doesn't work they said they will need to investigate more and probably need to replace it which is what I prefer anyways.

Incredible that some dealers are still clueless on this issue

zrider 09-20-2010 07:54 PM

Went to the dealership last week, and the service guy handling it said there was a fix and he ordered me a new ecu straight up without asking to listen to it. It was a first after many attemtps to get someone to fix it. I asked bumblez, another user on this forum cause he said he had gotten it fixed at a dealership in richmond, va and i called up the guy. Was going to use him as a reference at my dealership but like I said he just ordered a new part straight up. I am so relieved now !

Corbitt 09-21-2010 10:22 AM

Anybody in the D/FW area found a dealership that will fix this problem? I haven't taken my 370Z in just yet (it does have the high frequency issue), but I called Nissan of Fort Worth and the service manager was absolutely clueless about this.

I'm glad you got yours fixed. I seemed to have solved my problem with my high frequency sound:

I sold it. LOL!

I've missed her every day but am enjoying my new MBZ GL. I do sort of feel bad that whoever buys my used 370Z at the dealership will have to deal with that high frequency noise.

I was JUST getting ready to take her in to have this looked at when my H2 broke down and we decided to just get the new GL. Even my husband could hear the sound, so I was hopeful that someone at the dealership would be able to as well.

LOL. My husband told me it was an "expensive fix." :)

honestly, that's not WHY I sold the car, but it did solve my problem with it :D

m4a1mustang 09-21-2010 01:06 PM

For me it was one of the things that made letting go of the Z easier.

fuct 09-21-2010 02:25 PM

i have the sound in my 2010 nismo... yes it grates on my nerves, but would i trade it in because of it?????? no way!

So have the ECU replaced for free under warranty????

Paskii 09-21-2010 05:14 PM

Well just got back from Nissan and I got some relatively good news, Nissan said there will be an ECU or ECM update in 2 to 4 weeks. They are aware of this problem and has been working on a remedy for it for awhile. I think the fix is legit as Nissan wants to launch the fix rather than replace the ECU for me, which sucks because I have to wait. Well at least their going to address this issue now, they said it's very likely a TSB would be released as well.

zrider 09-21-2010 05:35 PM

^^^ my dealership has already ordered a new ecu for me and im waiting on it so they can swap it out.

............... really>>????

this was like pulling teeth... i really hope what you are saying is true...

I agree....and now that it's gone there are a few things I'm finding that I don't miss about the Z (even though I would have never admitted it while owning it...lol..) i.e. lugging myself down into and up out of the damn thing. LOL! Every time I got in or out of the car, I would silently mutter to myself, 'I'm too old for this S$#%". Once in..ALL worth it. But now..sliding into my GL..heaven. :) So that is helping make it easier to say goodbye :)

To keep on topic-- at least it sounds like whoever gets my car will maybe have an easy time getting the ECU fixed!

Yeah it is but at the same time not surprised, Nissan probably wants to keep it on the DL, I guess they initially thought it was only a small percentage of vehicles that had this problem but their wrong lol. Hopefully a TSB will be out in 2 to 4 weeks.

TSB!!! sweet!!!

Elia Cid 09-22-2010 07:31 PM

My dealer acted like I had two heads , he went from what noise to "Oh that sound!" :icon14:

The tech looked it up on his shop computer, nope not here so he gave me , it must not exists look!:shakes head:

It has also cost them sales. I was dead set on getting one until I took a test drive, heard the sound and found out Nissan wasn't acknowledging the problem. It also made me wonder what other problems they conveniently ignore.

I was thinking the same as a I drove home, we should thank everyone for their persistence in complaining about this issue. Nissan finally recognized that it does bother people and it probably did affect sales. I heard some other owner actually got a full refund for this problem, if they don't fix my mine I intend to do the same.

Maybe get a GL like Tammy lol Nahh getting another 370z car is way too fun to drive.

you don't want a GL... It isn't a Z...trust me :) I mean..I like it...serves its purpose for what *I* need it for..but a Z it is not. I feel like I'm floating down the road...I miss feeling like a part OF the road :)

The luxury is nice. :)

Oh no I would think that its worse here. Its taken me multiple tries, with multiple dealerships for someone to finally acknowledge it.. it was a horrible experience :shakes head:
