Did that fix the noise?

Silver37 12-05-2009 10:11 PM

Yeah....that would be the first actual fix that I've heard of on this topic!

I just got called from my service maneger 2days ago. He said he just placed order and the new ECU will be there next week. I'll post my result after they replaced it.:ughdance: But he said he is not sure this noise will fixed.

MightyBobo 12-05-2009 11:09 PM

BTW, I figured this was worth mentioning, but I remember getting off the track the first time and popping the hood, and holy **** that whine was surprisingly loud. I heard it with the hood down, and when I popped it, it was even worse.

It was the first time I'd ever heard it.

same as mine. I can hear that noise, standing outside of car. That whine is F****** loud.:shakes head:

MightyBobo 12-06-2009 12:14 AM

Kinda worried me because this happened on the 1st day, and on the 2nd day I didnt hear anything at all, and that was when my TCS/Low traction lights were light up solid.

The sound you are hearing is an old Led Zeppelin tune.It is very hard to hear it with the human ear but after the bud I smoked it was very clear to me that is what it is!I actually like it guys!
I'am not taking mine in if there is a recall!

umm what

cool story bro

So, I think my wife heard this noise for the first time. Can it only be heard from the passenger seat? She said she heard something, but only with her head turned in a particular direction. From the driver's seat, I couldn't hear anything. And, she only heard it when I had the radio off - are these the normal symptons?

From following this both here, and in the G37 forums, the answer is yes...... to the "inside the car high pitched whine" issue. The "under the hood" high pitched whine, that has been attributed to the electronic throttle, is a different animal then the inside one everyone believes is the ECU.

USMCASA 12-06-2009 02:44 PM

i can hear it in my car, sounds almost like a ground issue you would get with an improperly grounded audio system but its faint. i'm gonna call my dealer and see if they have replaced the ecu in my car yet, its an 09, but just picked it up new a week ago.

cab83_750 12-06-2009 09:03 PM

I don't want to sound harsh here.. But merely uneducated.

I read a lot of "...we believe it is the ECU......"

So cant the owner and/or the dealer just physically loosen the ecu, place it next to the ear and voilą ("it is the ecu").

Silver37 12-10-2009 07:07 PM

You Z guys got a fix for this problem yet???? I've been living with the noise for over 2 months now and I'm about to lose it!

No one I know of here has posted a fix, nor a "definitive" cause yet (for the inside noise believed to be the ECU, not the engine "throttle body" noise).

If you G guys find it first, please come back and post some results, I'll do the same in the G37 forums. Thanks.

John

Do you hear the noise every day? The days I have it, it's there all day. Other days I don't hear it at all. I'm looking for what's triggering it.

getmecoffee 12-17-2009 12:43 PM

I hear the noise everyday. My service manage spoke to his advisor, and they came back to me with this:
*Nissan is aware of the problem
*Only a small amount of the Z's have the issue (prob not reported enough)
*He's willing to replace the ECU; however, he advised to wait until they have a true answer to the cause.

For those who have replaced the ECU, has the noise gone away?

the noise i have is very quiet and does not fluctuate. it is there every day, not matter the temp or any setting in my car. thankfully mine is tolerable.

Silver37 12-17-2009 06:30 PM

The noise wasn't present in my car last Saturday until I flipped on the lights to drive in the rain. The noise came on pretty loud at that point. I'm finding that something is triggering mine to start, and once it has started it won't stop that day.

bumblez 01-06-2010 02:25 AM

Finally, I went to Nissan dealership for replacing ECU to get fixed high pitch noise today. After the tech replaced ECU, I did test drive and that noise was still there.:mad:WTF!!!? I've been waitng for almost 5 hours at the dealer today!!
So the general maneger called to the nissan department rep. And
They said they found the ECU which has serial number end with B, makes high pitch noise. Old ECU should be change to New one which has serial number end with A. My service maneger checked ECU's serial number on my car and it's end with B. That's why my car still make noise even though they changed to new ECU. My stupid service maneger didn't check it before he placed order.

Anyways...I hope it's true this time.
Dealer just gave me a rent car(sentra) and I have to wait another 1weeks to get it fixed. I will update if its fixed.

P.s/ if anyone need contact number for department rep guy, Pm me:tiphat:

getmecoffee 01-06-2010 11:01 AM

What's the easiest way to get to the ECU to check?

TipsZ 01-06-2010 01:03 PM

Where can I got to see if I have serial number ending with a B or an A? The odd thing is that I do not hear that high pitched noise all the time. It seems to be hit or miss. Sometimes it is present, other times it is not. Almost as if the the voltage to the ECU changes ever so slightly, to cause the noise. I have experienced at times that if I hear the noise upon start up, I turn the car off and wait about 10 to 15 minutes and restart it, the sound is not present. Thus, it leads me to believe perhaps it is a grounding issue. If a proper ground is present at all times it helps regulate a constant voltage drop at all times. Either way, the next time I hear that damned noise I am taking it to the dealership for them to "document" in person the issue. I really hate it when the dealership can not recreate the issue for themselves, as it is pretty much a waste of my time of dropping off the vehicle for that day.

dudafunk 01-06-2010 02:48 PM

Bought new car last week, 8 miles, I hear the noise too.
After so much haggling with the sales/finance guys I doubt if they're gonna entertain me with further whinning and will just yo yo me... unless these issues can be handled by a new set of service techs instead of having to talk to the sales guy again?

Incidently, besides this ecu or whatever it is noise (i heard the recording in the thread - its 100% precise).... i have another small crackling noise under the passenger exhaust... 'ive put 300 miles so far and it hasn't gone yet.

dudafunk 01-06-2010 03:54 PM

BTW anyone figure out how to find out if your serial number ends with the A or the B?
From my manuals or from the dealer?

G Fo12ce 01-06-2010 06:32 PM

I hear the noise too. It's very subtle to me and if I were to guess off the top of my head it sounds like fuel pump whine to me.

I'm not saying it's not the ECU like you guys are saying because maybe it could be a bad fan bearing in the ECU or something wierd like that. But again to me it sounds like track cars I've heard with high flow or external fuel pumps.

bumblez 01-06-2010 11:22 PM

I think the only way you can find out your ecu is type A or B, is go to the dealer to take the ecu out to check.

Bummer! Can you see if you can get hold of the right part number and any service bulletin that goes with it? This noise is killing me!

Zsteve 01-07-2010 07:43 AM

I havent heard it in mine but Im also a little on the bad side for hearing in certain freqs, like 6k etc but my wife hasnt said anything about a noise ye teither so hopefully I dont have it. So are they putting the ECUs with the "B" in models still being sold today or did they stop the "B" at a certain time?

jpit 01-07-2010 09:49 AM

My car was manufactured in 10/08 and has the "A" ecu. Uprev's software reads the number as it needs to know which ecu is being tuned. Don't have the high frequency noise (yet).

Zvengeance 01-15-2010 06:50 PM

My 370z Nismo, which I bought 2 months ago started getting the noise. Right now I have 1100 miles on it and it just got louder.

I'm afraid to take it to the dealership and not have it happen. I have very bad luck when it comes to taking a car to the dealership and not being able to show them the problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I need to do?

Is at a point that now all I focus on is that dam noise and it started giving me head aches.

When you get it fixed can you please post some sort of official paper by the dealership showing what they did?

Viera 01-21-2010 10:25 AM

Bump. Still waiting!

Tyrell Tyson 01-21-2010 11:16 AM

Yoyo

Bumblez posted in my thread about the same thing, i pmd him few days ago. Here was his post

Bumblez-
"Ok... here is update for my highpitch noise.
My dealer just change ECU which is ending with A..
That noise has been reduced a little bit but still can hear.
General service maneger was not there when I picked up my car.
I think he might say try another ECU.
Anyways... we gonna talk about this on monday.
I will ask them to change to another Z.
If they say NO?? I will hire an attorney."

SUCKS BALLS huh

Does anyone out there know a fix for this problem that effects alot of Z owners ?? can anyone solve it, 1 million dollars to the man that does :yum:

- Ty

NXTAZEE 01-21-2010 11:36 AM

Once in a while I hear a very slight high pitch noise, but it comes from the rear of the car. This I would think is the fuel pump. I hear this in a lot of cars, mainly from the outside of the car though. This is probably because most cars have a lot more sound proofing than the Z.

jloomis13 05-19-2010 10:21 AM

Any news from anyone on this issue? I just hit 3100 miles on my '09 and have had this issue for about a month. Took it to the local dealer yesterday and only one other person could here it, and they "can't replicate the sound" and are unwilling to offer a fix. Looking for any help I can get at this point!

Drive the car with the service manager in it, and point it out to him. Or get those sound measuring devices that measures the frequency of sounds. And show him.

mcphelps 05-19-2010 09:23 PM

I thought I had this problem with my car. Turns out my wife had closed the A/C vent on the passenger door, causing a high pitched noise where the air was leaking out at the door-to-dash seal. Whew!
