bad spouse drivers?

So I thought this could be fun. If you have a spouse or gf/bf how are they at driving?
I thought of this after my wife would have hit someone if I hadn’t warned her and of course she got all defensive. Too bad her driving isn’t defensive. Arr arr! So overall she’s not bad but she has her moments. Like on our second date when she hit my car! She rolled forward on my hilly driveway with her manual 5.0 mustang and hit my monte carlo ss. Plus she’s had 2 accidents where her car almost got totaled. Or when she hit a car at a stop light when she was watching the cute cows in the field. Or when she hit a car backing out of our driveway on 2 different occasions. Plus she’s been stopped for speeding a couple of times and other violations but has always got off without a ticket. I know this sounds bad but this is in 27 years of marriage. But you can understand why I worry and cringe when she ever takes my car! Oh yeah and once she went to take my supra turbo out for a drive but she got out to run back inside for something, forgot to set the parking brake and it rolled with the driver’s door opened and crunched against the garage door frame, wedging the car and bending back the door like a pop top on a can of beer. But she is getting better. Her current car is 13 years old and has very few boo boos. Anyone else?

My wife is a good driver. I taught her how to drive.

Dirk McGurck 03-28-2016 10:12 AM

:wtf2:

I love my fiancee and she is a perfect and wonderful driver.

Jatmallet 03-28-2016 10:15 AM

I hope she doesn't check your computer and see this post! Could be in big trouble.

mishuko 03-28-2016 10:27 AM

the only people that don't know how to drive use automatics :stirthepot:

LOL, Mine is pretty good too, taught her way back. When we first started dating she wasn't allowed to touch the volume knob on my stereo until she read the car audio glossary in one of my stereo mags. LOL

Spooler 03-28-2016 12:17 PM

Not going here. It is a definite danger zone.

My female friend with a 2016 Nismo with every option keeps asking to drive my car. I have told her multiple times NO. It's not safe for her or anyone else to drive my car. She keeps saying it's because it's a $$ issue and if she crashes. Then at the same time, she said I can't drive her car unless I'm making the payments after I asked if I could give her car a "test drive". .... I just wanted to know how it felt like to drive an auto NISMO. The farthest I have driven her car was out the garage and into the driveway for a carwash lol!!!

She gets mad every time I tell her she can't drive my car. I tell her she had a Accord before her Nismo. She doesn't know how to drive a standard transmission. She says she is not use to how fast her car is but yet, she thinks she can just jump into my car no problem.. GO figure...

She's still not driving my CAR!!

Did your wife know that you aired out her dirty (driving) laundry on a public forum?

Fuzzzy 03-28-2016 01:01 PM

I let my 17 y/o son drive my Z (with me in it) a couple of days after I got it.

That was two years ago and my wife hasn't driven it yet. Enough said.

srbrubak 03-28-2016 01:09 PM

My Best Friend, Lover, and Spouse is a good driver. She hasn't driven my Z yet since she hasn't shown any interest yet. She does know how to drive a manual so that isn't an issue. It may be awhile before she drives the Z since her right knee is giving her some problems.

mishuko 03-28-2016 01:27 PM

my sister won't even come for a ride... something about driving too fast and she might die or something like that... uhh k.

sp911 03-28-2016 02:16 PM

My wife knows how to drive a standard, but she lacks concentration I think. she gets mad when I point things out like that was an illegal turn or whatever but I feel I have to especially when she's talking and talking, that's when I notice she's paying less and less attention. she won't check to see if anyone is running a red light but says, "well if they run it and smash my car it's there fault not mine." yes, that happened once. I just worry knowing that the z has blind spots and if someone isn't used to it something bad might happen. and no she won't be reading this any time soon I hope. and yes, I feel better.;)

Z in the 6 03-28-2016 02:52 PM

Just starting to see a new girl and she has already expressed interest in driving my Z lol normally I would say 100% no go but she likes cars.. recently sold her RSX and wanted a new civic SI but for financial reasons is going with an older Mazda 3 all of which are/where manual, type of girl that when we go out says "I'll drive" soooo not use to this lol.. I'm predicting we'll be out one night and ill want to have an extra drink or two and toss her the keys... wish me luck lol

a whadda girl.

can handle a stick

raffenblackma 03-28-2016 02:59 PM

My ex totaled my challenger in a Walmart parking lot, she ran over two concrete parking dividers, she didnt see the first one and tried to pull forward out of the spot, then when she got stuck, she accelerated harder and ended up stuck on two. Never let her drive my cars after that. When her dad bought her a brand new Audi suv, for her birthday, he handed they keys to me instead lol.

stansens 03-28-2016 08:27 PM

You're a brave man....maybe she reads this forum as well. I simply wouldn't have the guts to let her drive mine. In 43 years of driving I've been lucky to be involved in one accident where my car was "T boned" at an intersection by a drunk driver. Some defensive driver education might by an idea and possible insurance discount. Just my 2 cents.

JARblue 03-28-2016 08:40 PM

We bought the Z for my wife originally. She drives just fine and actually pays attention.

EzDz 03-28-2016 10:47 PM

The gf can drive a standard. I ask her everytime were out if she wants to drive the z. One of these times she'll say yes and ill cry :)

My wife is good at driving. She can drive our 41ft Class A motorhome pulling a Grand Cherokee.

PSerotinaZ 03-29-2016 07:33 AM

So I just got my 2010, and before this I had multiple Nissan 240sx's, all manual transmissions. Well the last 240 was a built SR20 and broke 8 transmissions. So, I just got an automatic for the first time LOL. I learned to drive my brother's manual 300zx though! And I will admit I did wreck one of the 240's.

As for the spouse thing, my few year boyfriend drives like an a$$ but he makes fun of other people that do. He will probably read this one day. He will probably not laugh. <3

OldGuyFla 03-29-2016 09:28 AM

It's not that my wife is a bad driver but she is a crash magnet. She has totaled two vehicles (a Jeep liberty & a Chevy aveo) plus one other wreck. None of them her fault. I would worry about her getting behind the wheel of the Z. Good for me that she doesn't even want to drive it.

ayrton88 03-29-2016 09:42 AM

My girlfriend has a Miata, stick of course. She has never even had a car with an automatic. She drives in Chicago traffic everyday and I've never heard a complaint. The only accident I remember her having was some idiot on Lake Shore Drive changing lanes right into her. Claimed her car was too small to see....makes me fear for Motorcyclists. My wish is that they would ban SUVs in the Loop. Actually I wish we had a nationwide ban on SUVs, but that's just me. Free up lots of street parking that's for sure. Why anyone needs a SUV or 4X4 in a big city is beyond me, yet they dominate around here. Sorry, Off Topic I know.

datz wat u get for blocking the faking road while i patiently waited for his lame driving arse.

My GF drives a stick and likes going fast, but that doesn't make her a good driver. She's not defensive at all and IMO is sometimes reckless.

The first day I got my Z she asked to drive (I knew she would get upset if I didn't let her)... Those were the longest 20 minutes of my life!

Fortunately when she was backing up into the garage, the back tires started spinning and she started getting nervous until she finally gave up and gave me the keys. After that she says she doesn't want to drive it anymore.

My dad has poor feelings in his legs but used to drive manual. My Mazdaspeed was behind his truck one day, so he grabbed the keys and proceeded to do a burnout backwards out of the driveway, then creeped the car back in and never drove it again.

My mom, who drives a manual Civic used to have to move my car so she could go anywhere. She realized she barely had to give the car any gas to move it in and out of the driveway.

Neither of them wants to drive the Z ever.

Yep... quickly figured this out the first time I drove my Z and squealed the tires on my way out of the dealer :ugh2:

We really have to go there?
Let's see here.....
Eclipse Turbo parked on top of a guard rail ......check
My Audi I just redid the front suspension and new rims & tires.....curbed it cracked the rim and rack ...check
Supercharged Bonneville into deer check
V8 Grand Cherokee meets her driving drunk......check..... it made it home with no dents but also no bumpers (this was many years ago though)
Brand new Nissan Frontier with 2 mysterious dents in the hood ...check
She doesn't get to drive my Z! I bought her a brand new car so she has that.

gbrettin 03-29-2016 03:51 PM

My wife has driven my Z a couple times and hates it, which I'm ok with. She loathes the fact that I've installed performance parts because: "It doesn't ride nice, it's loud, and it stinks like gas".

...

Mission accomplished.

I live in Fayette County! I took 1 out with a VW Scirocco that looked like it just rolled off the showroom floor a few years back so I am ever watchful now.

My wife runs over curbs when making right turns. That's OK in her Land Cruiser BUT NOT IN MY Z!
