If it is a 240z it will say Datsun. 260z and 280z have what it is on the badge.

Ah, it is a hybrid. 280z with 240z bumpers.

Hope that helps. From what I've been reading it sounds like something I've seen on other car models. Like a GT running around with Cobra bumpers maybe? Given the age of the car, maybe the owner switched some things out due to availability or necessity, and not just to troll us.

I couldn't see anywhere in the one pic I got if it was Datsun or not. Not from the rear, maybe it would say on the grille somewhere.

280z's have he 5 mph bumpers on them. The bumper rubbers are hard to find. Nissan discontinued them a long time ago. I was looking for some back in 1992 and they were discontinued back then.

Or do you mean that instead of saying 280, it would of said Datsun on the fender?

LOL, it is a Datsun. The 240z badge would say Datsun on the front fender.

Yep, it's a 280Z. Albeit modified. A 240Z has the back up lights integrated into the brake/turn lense. This one has 240Z rear and front bumpers (at least not the 5mph bumpers of 260Z and 280Z). The easiest way to tell a 260Z and later from the front is that the license plate is centered on the 240Z and offset to the starboard on the 260Zs. The 240Zs also had a Datsun badge on the rear deck. I'm not sure if there was one on the 260Zs or 280Zs. All in all a very nice restore. Kudos to the owner.

It's a sweet ride. I never owned one but an Army bud of mine loaned me his 2+2 280Z when we weren't out in the desert while I was redoing my Mustang.

The Nissan badge didn't become official until 1984 with the 300zx. I have an 83 280zx turbo and it says Datsun by Nissan in the badging

Truth. And if you got a 84, they have both "Datsun" and "Nissan" badges. Pretty cool if you ask me. Former is on the left, latter is on the right. You can kind of see it here:

It is a 72 or 73 240Z...

The fuel door, bumpers and tail lights give it away...
