Annoying creak

My car just developed an extremely annoying creak this afternoon on the driver's side near where the windshield meets the dash, at least that's where I think it's coming from.

Default Annoying creak

I tried pressing down on the dash in that area, but the creak continued. Anyone else experience this, and if so, were you able to get it fixed?

A lot of times the temperature outside can cause shrinking or expanding of materials. It usually goes away once the temperature changes significantly.

I got the same thing going on. I think it's my bar because the noise seems to come from the dash but I also have squeak coming from the seat. I guess it may be both in my case.

I have the exact same noise where dash meets windshield. I looked up a few threads on this and there are a few solutions listed I will have to try out:

Windshield Crackling Noise

"Hi Guys, think I've found a solution to the problem. I started to develop the same noise in my z. First was time I noticed was up/down steep driveways at around 5000km and then more recently the noise started appearing on bumpy roads at around 10000km. If you look at the base of the windscreen whilst outside the car you'll notice a plastic strip running across its base. This plastic strip catches dust and grit underneath, and over time (if not cleaned), the grit will manifest itself as a creaking sounds in the cabin. Try pressing along that plastic strip you'll most likely hear the sounds you've been hearing inside the car.

If you run a high pressure hose along the base of the windscreen, focusing on getting the water under the plastic strip, you will clear any grit/dust from between the strip and windscreen. The end result is no more creaks. Enjoy"

Wind noise or soft rattle from driver side dash/windshield

"Check your windshield cowl. Not common but it happens sometimes. The fix is to put a bead of silicone between your windshield and the cowl. Some use 3m tape."

Thanks all for the responses. So I ended up checking the outside of the windshield, and sure enough there was a small pebble or something lodged up between the windshield and the plastic at the bottom. But, unfortunately for me, removing it did not solve the issue. After that, I checked again, and there is a whole lot of stuff lodged in there. I don't have the resources to clean it all up now, but hopefully that's all it is. It actually sounds more like plastic on plastic contact, but I realize these creaks can be deceiving.

I have a similar issue but it's in the rear headliner (centerline) area near the rear window. When I push on the rear headliner it stops. Any idea what's in that area to cause that?

I used the credit card idea that was mentioned in one of the links above to remove debris from under the cowl, and that seemed to do the trick. There was a lot of dirt under there

Glad to hear the credit card trick worked. If it happens again, you may want to remove the plastic pieces for a better cleaning. The piece by the battery is pretty easy to remove - see one of the many pull-the-steering-lock-fuse DIYs. The FSM should explain how to remove the rest if it's not readily apparent.

Thats funny you said that - I just replaced my battery today putting my car on the road for the spring and there is far more debris under the plastic then a credit card could remove. Definitely an overlooked spot.
