Default Front Chin Spoiler Help

So Im at the dealership right now getting an oil change. When i bought the car, it came with the aero kit, but the front was not installed. I told them to install it today, and they said that it was not possible. They said that my car was needed to be sent to the body shop that they have a partnership with. They said there were no predrilled holes and that they had to drill it and also that they had to cut off the edges of the spoiler. My car is also an early production model. Any comments or help?

more than likely they will have to drill holes to clip/bolt the spoiler on...sometimes they will provide a template to make this easier.

They just need a rivet gun. That's how it gets installed. No need to pre-drill. Look it up in the service manual. Print it out. Shove said print-out in their faces.

Btw, I just noticed you're local to me. All else fails, PM me and I'll hook you up with my mechanic who can put it on for you. We're both just next door over in Lawrenceville. He can install it for you in like 10 minutes. Where did you get your car? Gwinnett Nissan?

Not sure how familiar you are with everything I've done to my car, but this guy did ALL my stuff. I've been going to him for years for everything from intakes and exhausts to NOS and a supercharger kit.

These rivets are self-tapping. That's why you have to use a rivet gun. The rivet gun holds the rivet in place, then when you clamp down, the force that is exerted by the gun pierces the rivet right through.

Here's a picture of the rivet that comes with the chin spoiler. See how it has a big nail-like spike? That spike is what taps the rivet through the bumper cover. (The spike doesn't stay in the bumper cover, btw. It gets ejected out and then you just toss it out.)

Correct me if I am wrong, but the "spike" is merely the gripping mechanism of the riveter to pull the "ball" end of the rivet into the "cap" creating a mushroom head that seals the hole and the parts together. Nothing gets driven thru as it is only the black cap end that goes into the hole. Again, the "spike" remains in the riveter as a gripping mechanism..... therefore, a hole IS required for a riveter to function.
