I hate this car

Actually I love my car, but at 50k miles my cpu has gone out, my CMC has gone out, my trunk locked one day and i had to take it to the dealership so they could unlock it and replace the entire locking mechanism.. and just today I've become a victim of the infamous steering lock failure.

luckily this has all been covered by my extended warranty, and although I've seen other members have it worse I think I'm done with my Z. I guess it may be ok to some, and I know nothing is perfect but at 50k it just sucks. I mean come on the cpu went out at 11k!.. I once had a honda at 300k miles and it never let me down. I guess I'm pissed off because I went out to lunch from work and the steering wheel failed at carls jr so i had to uber my *** back to work. lol.

So I was considering trading it in for a fiat abarth :bowrofl: yeah I know change of pace.. its cool if you all hate lol, its not exactly a NISMO.. but I'm always open to other options haha.

RomerZ 07-06-2015 06:46 PM

Subaru BRZ :-p

Zipper 104 07-06-2015 06:52 PM

Fiat

I'm old enough to remember the days long ago that Fiats were available on our shores. Essentially they were such junk they went away for about 30 years.....and now they are back again, but my understanding is they still remain just about as unreliable as they ever were.
Cool? Well, OK, maybe, but I'd rethink buying one however.
I'm just waiting for the days Peugeot, Citroen, Skoda, Lada et al return.
OK, NOT.

I like the brz but I kind of don't want to spend as much as they cost.. Not that there expensive but my gf was in the market for a fiat (which is when I saw the Abarth) I was joking with the guy, told him I'd buy two if he'd give me a good deal and long story short I could get one for about 16k.. And if I sell the Z I'd pretty much pay it Off. I don't want a car payment lol.

By the looks of it you've almost had everything that could go wrong with a Z as in the most common issues. :(

I think if you hang on to it you should be able to put plenty of miles on it and really enjoy a trouble free car. :driving:

I wouldn't blame you if you still feel the same and you just want to move on. :tiphat:

I have an early build Jan 09 in fact and knock on wood I have not had any problems with it so far. :ugh2:

I still believe the majority of 370Z's are trouble free but there is small fraction that we have come to learn have had issue as you have experienced a lot of unfortunately.

Yeahh, thanks for the post Trips It made feel a tad better. I do love the Z line, I just hate mine. Maybe some mods will help ease my mind. Lol

MagmaRed370z 07-06-2015 08:18 PM

Z370Z011,

It really sucks that with only 50K you have had so many issue with this car. This is suppose to be a reliable Japanese car and it just sucks that it does not deliver.

I agree on the above, you have fixed all the common issues so it should be Ok to keep.

So we hope. Lol
Recently I've noticed the brake light in the dash come on when I speed up... And my rear brakes squeak when I'm driving even if the ebrake isn't engaged. It almost sounds like the rotors aren't even because it isn't a continuous squeak.

I suppose they aren't major issues but it adds on to my headache.

kenchan 07-06-2015 08:21 PM

i like the abarth but to replace the z with one is not logical.

The brake light upon acceleration is more than likely just low brake fluid. Even if it doesn't appear to be low, it can trigger when the fluid shifts when you accelerate.

shaun66 07-06-2015 08:41 PM

I have an early 09 with 46K miles now and never had an issue. Guess they built yours on a friday! I do hate this paint though.

you think the base 500 is more apropos?

Shotta 07-06-2015 08:52 PM

Instead of the Abarth I would look at a Mini Cooper S. My wife has one and its as much fun, if not more so to drive then the 370z. Its also super easy to work on.

axmea? 07-06-2015 09:03 PM

Sorry for all your troubles. I'm with Trips on this. Keep her.

Trips 07-06-2015 09:05 PM

I've seen one of those new fiats in a 5-10 mph front crash and the front was done.

Im pretty sure you get what you're paying for in this case.

ShutokuZ 07-06-2015 09:08 PM

Good luck. I'm a big fan of the 500 Abarth. I've yet to drive one but they sound ridiculously good for a 1.4l turbo and the car punches above its weight. I'd be happy to hear your impressions after driving one. It would definitely be an interesting transition.

Talk about unreliable, the Cooper S sure fits that bill! My co worker had an '11 that had more issues than the law allows, it was totaled in Oct 2014. She said she doe not miss it a bit, she replaced it with a 2014 Honda Accord 6spd V6 coupe that she now loves.

I loved my Mini Cooper S 2010. I never had any problems with it and it was a lot of fun to drive...especially filling the gas tank you save a lot, but then again I only owned mine for about a year until I wanted something more and got the Z but I have nothing bad to say about the Mini Cooper S. BMW has a good warranty.

To OP
Stick with the Z and it will take you far though.. just think, now that you got past all the BS which most don't even experience in your position, you should be trouble free for a long time...right?

Yeah, Ive heard that the newer ones are not as good as the 2002-2006. We've got a 2006 and we haven't had any major issues with it other than BMW just replaced the rear hatch for free because I saw some rust on the seam and they have a 12 year rust warranty.

Low brake fluid usually = time to change brake pads. As the pads wear the fluid level in the master cylinder drops... most people just keep topping it off until it comes time to install a nice set of thick, new pads. Then they press the caliper pistons in during install and wonder why brake fluid spews out all over the engine bay.:rofl2:

ShutokuZ 07-06-2015 10:47 PM

^
True! In my case it was just low fluid though, as it happened at 5k. I am at 14k now with zero fluid drop and have 7mm left F/B.

I hate this car

Dude mine has like 93k miles on it and I have no issues :) SO FAR! I don't know if the previous owner had any but hey maybe your just in the unlucky batch? A little turbulence didn't hurt anyone :) it's all experience I mean think of it like this.

You got your girl right? And just because you get into arguments or have small little disagreements doesn't mean your gonna go replace her immediately, right? No you work through it, you suffer together, you learn together, you learn to hate each other and from there you learn to love each other. You begin to cherish all the times you spent together and EVERYTHING you've learned together right? TOGETHER through EVERYTHING.

No one has ever put up with you for that long but her, she's been there and you've been there, you're comrades! It's the same thing man. You're gonna get rid of the baby who has sat through it all with you and yes she gave a headache but **** she got you to point B in good time! She brought the thrill! She carried you all the way. When you turn her on, she returns the favor... Love your Z for your Z has loved you brother u.u

well you can't argue with the gf analogy! lol loved your post man

So I've put a lot of thought into this and I think ill end up keeping her. You all made great points which I had not realized. Every damm part that has failed has been replaced and in theory I should have a smoother sailing from here on out. And HOPEFULLY hit another 50k without any major issues. So I really do appreciate everyones advice, she may have been up on craigslist right now if it wasn't for you guys. lol :tiphat:

still want a fiat Abarth though, its cute. Yes, its cute, I said it. :icon14: lol.

Anifaust 07-07-2015 07:42 AM

You could always trade her in for a flatbed and start making bank off other Z owners. :stirthepot:

My clutch sank to the floor Thursday night July 2nd...was almost to the friends house I was dropping off luckily. Only bad part is for whatever reason when I popped it into neutral and strolled up in front of her house the tranny was still in second but my shifter was locked in to neutral. 0.o

Still sitting at a shop waiting to be diagnosed.
