Sport Vs Base Model?
Sorry if this a repeat topic, but I tried searching but couldn't find anything.
For those of you that purchased a manual sport model do you think it was worth the difference than purchasing a base model and doing the upgrades yourself? and for those that bought the base manual model do you regret not getting the sport package? I'm on the fence right in trying to figure out which is the better model to pull the trigger on? Any input would be helpful. |
Sport is def worth it - try adding SRM to a base - not gonna happen.

it's worth getting the sport package. bigger brakes, vicious lsd and the srm, better rims :D
even though i never use the srm, it's a nice option to have. |

Then again I haven't touched the VDC button either. |

I went non-sport since I knew I would be tearing the car apart and upgrading all the things the sport has to offer except SRM. Heel-toeing is more fun anyways IMO
|
I think the general consesus seems to be the Sport Package is def worth it unless you plan on replacing most of the stuff down the line. I personally love the Sport Rays and I don't plan on doing much visually, so the Sport rear/front spoilers are a pleasant add-on.
This topic has been beaten to death so I'm surpised your searching didn't turn up much. |

No regrets getting a sport pack here. But I do regret not being able to get a pearl white or a Nismo at the time I was shopping.
|
Sport Package for sure. This is my second z. Had the Base first now the Sport Package. When I had the Base i would always see the sport version and when i saw those rims i was like...f**k lol
Plus the sport brakes are BALLLIINNN!!! |

it would cost you more if you were to do your own upgrades than getting the sport package. i think 99% of the people will say if you have the funds go for the sport package |
sport package without question
|
Sport for sure. the SRM is awesome.
|
Sports package it is! Now to find one in pearl white.
|
As stated, if you plan on going crazy with modding, you should go base, Light mods (breathers+ tune) get the sport FOR SURE!
|
Get the sport model. You can always add "better" aftermarket components than what factory premium packages offer, but in this case it's going to cost you a whole hell of a lot to get something that's really not all that much better. The sport brakes and wheels are pretty awesome out of the box and 99.9% of people only "upgrade" them for looks anyway.
The LSD is worth it over the base rear; I've heard some track junkies bitching about how they needed to replace it, but IMO either they're super-demanding, highly skilled drivers or they're full of $h*t. I have no issues with mine. SRV is a cool feature and you won't be able to install it on a base model. You can always get better suspension but chances are you don't need it unless you're Ricky Bobby... I feel that for most people the only things really worth upgrading (not talking just cosmetic here) are things that don't come on the sport models anyway like performance intakes/exhaust, short-throw shifter, etc. I'm also willing to bet that very few people on this forum are able to drive this car to its extreme limits anyway, even in stock trim. |
I chose the base non sport simply because I new I would change out the crap I didn't want anyway so why pay twice and it was a 6k difference in price since I bought my 11' in May of 12' brand new. The diff I changed out, the suspension is completely different. I upgrade stuff when it needs upgrading. I autox my car and built it for that, so far the only thing I regret not getting the sport package for is the rims and brakes. As the brakes now are the next thing on my long list of stuff I want or need, which I am pretty sure I will be getting the Z1 upgrade package.
The SRM is a nice feature for people that are still learning how to drive a man tranny.:stirthepot: my feet are the right size to heel toe properly with the small azs go pedal. |
I got a base, but I have replaced everything that would come with the Sport anyway..
wheels, big brake kit, seats radio, suspension ect ect ect... Mine is a 7at so I am not missing the SRM. I love my car, but If I had a chance to do it again, I would probably get a Nismo... I just love the body kit on those. |
I have a base and don't regret it...then again I'm an old fart and just like driving it....no track days...

:iagree: Especially for the manual trans with the SRM. It makes it more fun down shifting.
Doesn't it also have a sport tuned suspension (springs & shocks etc)? Quote:

I was on the fence between Base Vs. Sport for a very short time.
If you are not going to heavily mod the car and swap out the components that come with the Sport package then sport is the way to go. When I first got it I shut off the SRM because I had been driving manuals for years. One day I decided let me give this thing a try, once I was able to disable myself from rev matching I learned to appreciate it. I haven't shut off SRM since then. If $$ is your concern save a little more and get the sport package. |

Sports Pkg
Don't pay Msrp ! I paid about $1600.
One thing that hasn't been mentioned. The suspension is stiffer than base. Rougher ride. |
Yah never mind the tires and 18inches. Just stiffer ride..!
|
SRM = sport no brainer
NISMO if you are going to stay stock maybe, but if you are going to mod it for track use definitely go sport. A lot of pricy NISMO stuff will come off for better aftermarket stuff from Stillen, Z1, etc. |
