It would be neat of they went on and stayed on constant, along with the "courtesy lights," and also blinked, maybe brighter, to indicate a turn.

This is correct behavior, don't know if it's documented anywhere. A post of that would be nice

I believe that is the only purpose of the side marker.

sounds like an easy mod to have them w/dual purpose. On with headlights and blinking with turn signals.

They are basically a turn signal, I believe they also flash when you unlock/lock your car.

I inquired about changing the color of my side markers a few months back and I was told it would be a real pain pulling them off and making any changes to them.

I thought pulling them off was easy? I think it is changing the bulbs/wiring that is hard:
side embloms

Have fun replacing the bulbs, seems somewhat easy, but I am just to lazy. Somewhat surprised I actually got around to doing my interior lights and license plate lights.

I just sent an extra set of door switches to DIGItonium to swap out the amber lights with blue. What's left to swap out?

Gauges, radio, those three pods.
I actually like the orange, thinking of adding some "accent" lights like the Mustangs have where your feet go on a toggle switch.

I would really like to have my longtime expert mechanic do this for me. Let me know if you ccomplish it so I can tell him its doable and have him turn to it. He usually discourages modifications on my cars but if I'm prepared to argue my case to him that it's not electrically dangerous to the car or its wiring in any way and won't compromise the warranty, I think he'll go along with the program. He also wants me to be sure that such mods are reversible---insists he's protecting me from complications at resale. He means well and sees to it that I do always my homework!

My father is the same way, always asking why I buy this part or that because I will not make my money back on it and if I sell the upgrades with the car it might hurt. I look at it as I enjoy the car with these parts, and I will worry about resale when it comes to that.

Not so easy.....It's an integrated LED light, not a traditional bulb. It would take a lot of work to accomplish this. Someone in another thread posted the autopsy pics of that light..

Replacing the LEDs is easy. The part with the dremel is the painful part... you literally have to "destroy" it.
