In your case, I believe that hit and run accidents are viewed as uninsured motor vehicle and since you have collision insurance coverage, you are covered under that coverage. Plus, since you purchased the collision deductible waiver, you do not need to pay the $500 collision deductible.

I don't get what this means. Does this mean I ring them up and they do everything from a to z and it won't cost me a dime? I was told that I need to pay the $500 bucks then insurance company pays the rest.

Usually, in every full coverage policy there is some sort of deductible the insurer pays. The higher the deductible, the lower the insurance premium. Since hit and runs are looked at as UM and you have collision coverage, both come in place in your case. You collision includes a $500 deductible, but since you have the UM collision waiver, you should not be required to pay the first $500 of the repair out of your pocket.

I'm not a California insurance agent, but by looking at your policy, this is my take.
