Default Stillen Install Quality

Hey guys,

Looking to have a few things done in the next couple months, all Stillen brand:

25 row Oil Cooler
G3 Intake
Exhaust
Dyno tune after mods are complete

Does anyone have any experience with Stillen installing all of this. I know they are expensive but I want it done right. I also hear a lot of A/C hoses burn out with the intake.

Any thoughts/experiences people can share with these installs and dyno tunes?

Bolt on mods and dyno tunes are all new to me.

Thanks

My two cents:

You don't need a tune until you hit the 3 bolt-on threshold (oil cooler doesn't count). A tune is a fairly significant expense (expect about $500 for the SW license and another 200-300 for the NA tune). If you get it tuned now and add say...test pipes or HFCs, you're going to have to tune it again and unlike other platforms, you really need a pro to do it right so you'd end up paying twice - for the tune, the license is yours forever once you buy it.

I had a G3 intake until I went FI and was very happy with it. Definitely affects the exhaust note and you won't be disappointed. Added side benefit of adding some significant power gains when it's not hot outside. Can't speak for anyone else, but I never had hoses burn out/through(?) with that intake installed. I'm guessing maybe whoever you talked to didn't have it installed properly? Hot intakes making direct contact with uninsulated hoses can never be a good thing.

I wasn't a huge fan of the Stillen CBE exhaust note to be honest. Just my opinion, but I'd suggest shopping around before you commit to an exhaust. Gains are going to be roughly the same so it's the sound that matters. Only you can make the determination as to what you like and what sounds good to you. Check out Fast Intentions, ARK Grip and the GTHaus options - depending on budget and if you can, try to head to local meets to hear them in person. Youtube vids aren't really enough.

Check the DYI section for install directions.

I do know that stillen provides a rubber piece to rap around the ac line for the intakes, but for the rest I'm not sure.

Specialty Z is a respected member of the Z community that does good work. You can have them do the install and tune and it'll also cost less than going to Stillen. I also agree that you should also consider some other exhausts like Fast Intentions or maybe Ark.

I have that combo Stillen Gen 3 Intakes and the CBE. I love it and happy with it. Worth every penny if you ask me. Definitely felt a difference in performance as far as throttle response and free way pulls (down shifting from 6-5-4 hell even 3rd. This is not the exhaust for you if you are seeking IM LOUD. A nice feature about this CBE is that it sits nice and tucked into the car so if your lowered it clears speed bumps no problem. Besides the proven gains which I am about…screw the noise.

I love my stillen CBE and Gen III, the exhaust on install was easy except I needed to adjust it a few times to even the tips out. The note is very refined and not sloppy. The intake is nice to look at and proven performance upgrade. This is my second car with stillen intake/ exhaust and I am still happy.

If you suck at tools, don't do it yourself

If you're good with them, do it yourself.

You don't NEED a tune. I have EVERY bolt on without a tune and it's been 10s of thousands of miles without issues

Stillen is great, that's all they do, their techs are for sure going to do a great job, I had all upgrades to my 350z done by Stillen. I do know there is a huge wait before you can get your car in.

Fontana Nissan has done everything on my 370z except the CBE which I had done by ARK since that's where I bought it, sounds insane. Fontana's quality is excellent; they are way out there but I don't care, I drive from OC.

Well you don't "need" a tune but after ~3 bolt-on installs that change the way air flows, your low end torque will suffer. Assuming you installed the bolt-ons for performance gains, you probably at least want to consider taking advantage of what a tune will give you.

I have to agree that Ark is a great suggestion. I installed mine by myself (on a lift) and followed that with the intakes and was completed in about 4 hours. That being said I did a lot of reading and reviewed the very detailed DIY on the intakes prior to starting.
