Missing under piece to bumper/front lip?
So over the weekend a friend of mine put my car up on a lift to fix and repair the lip from various scuffs and scratches. He did an amazing job painting and sanding it down but we both noticed that under the bumper there appears to be something missing. The lip is completely flimsy and offers no support at all. He noticed stress fractures in the paint from the wind and lack of support. It appears that the person before me must of really F'ed up the lip by hitting it and losing the huge plastic piece underneath. There are clips and holes underneath designed to be attached to something. The previous owner probably saw the huge piece on the ground after screwing it up and just ditched it. There is even a zip tie holding up a piece of plastic underneath. I wish I saw this earlier when purchasing the car but it's whatever, I still would of bought it. The car has no accident records. You can't notice it unless its on a lift.
There doesn't seem to be any other damage. We ended up cutting 4 metal strips and bolting them to support the lip when over speeds of 55 mph. So far it seems to help but I want to get the actual piece put back in to avoid any further complications. My questions is this, does anybody know where I can get this piece? |
Do you need the part in the upper left?

wow yea that appears to be it! How hard is it to have that piece rip off? I'm wondering what the guy before me did
|
That is the undertray, the one in the lower portion of the image is the coupe version.
Fairly hard to rip it off, usually it is only removed or modified when doing oil or engine work. |

Thanks though theDreamer  Any idea where I go or who I contact to get a replacement piece? |
If your friend can fix it that would be good, here is the pricing for a new one:
2011 Nissan 370z Coupe OEM Parts - LOU FUSZ MOTOR COMPANY I would assume the previous owner saw that and did not care to replace it. |
Thanks again man! Appreciate it! Gave rep
|
If you don't want to pay half that much for the plastic undertray on the nismo shoot me a pm. I am working with zspeed to have an aluminum one cut.

He actually mentioned about getting somebody to craft a metal piece to put in there instead. What are you guys planning out? |

According to the diagram has anyone lost part 75895 while driving at high speeds? Mine flew off and took out one of my 02 sensors a few months back. I was running about 140mph when I heard a loud noise from underneath. I never heard of this before on the forums so im hoping this was a rare occasion.

I'm interested in this aluminum cover....
Why is the Nismo one so expensive? It's just a piece of plastic. |

They can make money from insurance companies with this piece since anytime the front is hit this will be replaced, and also it stops people from just buying the Nismo parts and building the kit themselves (which honestly has not stopped anyone). |
I think the bigger reason is the cost to make a small number of parts, You have to figure this is a very low QTY part for nissan being it is only used on the Nismo version. Imagine the cost of a plastic mold that size. The piece is huge!
I priced a mold for a small piece of plastic I wanted to "re-pop" a while back and the cost was well over $20,000 for a few inches of mold. |

Test fitting prototype Saturday in Cleveland...
|
Nice let me know what you guys come up with!
|
For those anxiously awaiting the teaser pics...
Chris was kind enough to allow us to use his car for test fitting today so we made the 4 1/2 hour trip to Cleveland today and took him up on it. Thanks Chris! Should not be long guys, Prototype fit amazingly well with just a few minor details to work out. Looking good.
Any estimated price yet? |

edit: looked at the pic, how come this doesnt extend all the way back? it was my understanding that the stock one extends all the way back is to create more of a smooth undertray to keep airflow smooth! |
The image shows it extending just as far back as the OEM Nismo one does. It did not cover that brace. The cross bar on their lift obscures some of the view.
Can't wait to get mine. |
Why not use some kind of angled duct on the part of the plate that is recessed a bit in front of the wheel and direct some air towards the brakes? That would be easy to make as an add-on.
|
Joe please make sure it clears the hotchkis bar. It looks fantastic.
|
Should be plenty of room for the sways and lower oil pans ;) Look at all the room for brake ducts!
http://photos.zspeedperformance.com/...rdsize=640x478 Really not sure how the regular version is not clearing, This only sits about a 1/2" lower, we will be making a version 2 of the normal 370Z Underpan that sits a little lower also. We will be offering both versions for the non-nismo 370 in the future. |
what about the long rectangular plastic cover that spans that gap needed to hide the three mounting bolts? will not having it cause turbulence under there?
