Default Paint

Worked in the automotive industry, and most cars are painted at the factory with PPG or Dupont waterborne paints. There is always a huge pissing contest over which one is better, and both companies will have a engineer present in the factory at all times. As stated, when the car leaves the factory, it usually goes to another "company" that purchases EVERY car from the factory prior to selling it to a dealership. This company will have its own body shop, install the stickers, mats, etc..., and will make repairs to lot damaged cars of minor flaws from the factory. I was amazed at just how many "new" cars have had paint and body work. Since these repairs are done in a normal body shop, and all interior fixtures are present, water borne products cannot be used. This is when PPG or Dupont re-finish comes into play. Wouldn't worry about it either way, as I would guess 30% of ALL new cars have had some type of minor paint repair before you buy it "new".
