My Landrover Defender 90 had a stiff clutch as did the Jaguar X type. That Jag was a real biatch to launch with the clutch take about 1/2 inch off the floorboard. Stalled that car all the time, even with years of experience driving manuals. In comparison, the Z is a walk in the park.
