Finally Home In my New Car

2 Attachment(s)
Finally. Home. First time driving manual and i had to drive 2 and a half hours home highway was a breeze but still i Had the most worst time, uphill in bumper to bumper traffic, stalled 30 times, caused even more traffic, But im home. Safe and sound. I was so frustrated i had to get out of my car scream my *** off get back in the car and stall another 10 times. Freakin z the clutch catches like an inch away from having my foot off. freakin z i love you and hate you right now

03g35coupe6mt 07-15-2013 06:23 PM

yeah its like they thought really short people would be driving them , i lowered my clutch engagement point a long time ago much better now and then theres the fact that there is a helper spring to make it easier to push the pedal but it makes it harder to feel where exactly it releases .

Minsu 07-15-2013 06:36 PM

I can make the clutch engage sooner how tell me now

Chuck33079 07-15-2013 06:43 PM

Go ahead and pull out the helper spring. You'll feel a lot more through the clutch, and that makes it easier to be smooth.

nmjaxx9 07-15-2013 06:51 PM

Congrats

Magic Bus 07-15-2013 06:51 PM

Congrats on the new Z:tup:

OMG, new guy to manual trans :icon17:

Test drove 3 other new cars before deciding on the Z and the engagement points were very similar on all. So high engagement point is not the issue as I've never had a problem with stalling my 13Z, even the up hill starts are easier than some of the other sticks I've owned. It just takes practice.

Clutch helper spring and RJM Clutch pedal will give a different feel but you still have to learn how much to coordinate the releasing of the clutch with the pressing of the gas pedal. However, easy for me to say as I've been driving sticks since I was 16 and I'm now 55 :tiphat:

Chuck33079 07-15-2013 06:53 PM

In a couple of weeks of daily driving a manual, it'll become second nature.

Minsu 07-15-2013 07:03 PM

I hope so i really thought i was gonna mess up the car by stalling 30 times back to back. what happen when i do that? can someone let me know

Chuck33079 07-15-2013 07:09 PM

You didn't do any damage. Don't stress yourself out about it. Just concentrate on being smooth. Follow the manufacturer's recommended break in procedure and don't go beating on the car for a while.

Jasonle 07-15-2013 07:39 PM

congrats finally!

Chuck33079 07-15-2013 07:42 PM

Read the manual. You just paid over $30,000 of your money for a car. Read the damn book. Cover to cover.

w0rM 07-15-2013 07:44 PM

Hang in there. You get the feel eventually. I've been driving manuals for almost 30 years (!@#$ I'm old) and the 370 was a challenge at first for me. It took me a good 10 minutes to get the feel of it.

Welcome!

Wonka2581 07-15-2013 07:45 PM

Welcome to the fam..... Congrats:driving:

Very nice and I am totally loving the color. I totally know the feeling. I had a four hour drive home thankfully on the interstate. The clutch definitely took some getting use, but once you do oh boy it is gonna be on a poppin. I am still laughing at your post. Welcome and congrats!:icon18:

Tigger 07-15-2013 08:46 PM

You bought a sports car. If you came from a standard manual car it would certainly have been a bit easier to adjust. Even I had issues the first time I drove a 6mt 370 and I've been driving stick since my dad taught me. But think of it this way. When you get used to this manual you'll be able to drive damn near any manual on the planet without issue unless of course it comes with a performance clutch. Then good luck to you. ;) Those suckers drop and you don't even know it did until the car shakes and RPMs read 0. Then you scream because you swear up and down you are good at driving stick so why can't you drive this?! lol. It's all relevant. Take your time and at every light take it slow. As the saying goes, slow is smooth, smooth is fast.

Welcome to the family.

Minsu 07-15-2013 08:47 PM

Yea the highway driving feels like im in auto, this chick in a black z wanted to race me... lol

lmfao I laugh because those are the EXACT SAME WORDS my salesman told me....just before I stuffed the manual in the glove compartment.:shakes head:

Took me almost 3 years to take the time to read it. *sigh*

Chuck33079 07-16-2013 08:07 AM

I've never understood the mentality of not reading the directions. Considering how much these cars cost and how complex they are, it doesn't make sense not to. There's a lot of cool little things in there. And if you get the nav, you pretty much have to read the book to figure out how everything works. Granted, this is coming from the guy who tosses out the instructions on IKEA furniture and looks at it as a personal challenge to figure out how to put it together without them.

:icon18:I see where you're coming from Chuck.

(taking it back to Psych 201 and Econ 201 here....sorry guys lol) I think we all look at certain things from a macro perspective. The complexity of cars matters more to some than others. When you have comsumers whom look at certain things from a "check the block" perspective (like me :icon17:) they will figuratively "fire and forget" things.

When you have your concerning consumers (like yourself) they will take into account all aspects/values/complexities/reviews/concerns/etc of things. It just depends on what you want.

Now as I digress away from the technical, personally the Z car for me was not so much of a big deal, because my dream car is a 2004 Dodge Viper. That would be my "read the manual front-to-back" vehicle. (Braces self in preparation of being pelted with more rotten produce.....) The Z was what I got so I could out-do the guy who beat me to the Army base every day before I deployed. I spent my time in Iraq thinking, "how can I beat that 350Z?"

SS_Firehawk 07-16-2013 09:26 AM

What I like to do is blip the throttle just before I release the clutch and then back on the gas as I'm pulling my foot off. It helps prevent me from stalling it because rpm's are up and I can listen to the sound of the motor as rpm's dip back down and I start feeding in more gas. I only stall is when I rush it... That's with the stock clutch and helper spring still in place.

ElVee 07-16-2013 10:56 AM

Love that color, and grats on the 6mt and having the perseverance to go through the learning curve on a spendy and gorgeous vehicle (I thought about it, but couldn't convince myself to start there).

Minsu 07-16-2013 02:21 PM

i thought realllll hard and long, it wast a good idea but eh live and learn at 22. but yea that uphill stop and go is a hoe in traffic. i heard even the auto rolls back!

03g35coupe6mt 07-16-2013 03:15 PM

Welcome ! take the spring out lower the engagement and enjoy thats why we mod cars to get them to the way we want them just leaving like it was for me was not an option my G35 was the same way pedal all the way up lowered that real quick and what a difference .

b15 07-16-2013 06:16 PM

I know the feeling. I drove around a neighborhood right behind the dealer for an hr before heading home. Z is my first manual as well. First thing i did was swap out the helper spring and it really helped me engage better. Itll come with time and practice, especially starting on hills.

Congrats on the new car and great color!

Minsu 07-16-2013 07:45 PM

lol i dont wanna mess around with it, im gonna learn on what it is. love it or hate it you know, im slowly grabbin that clutch point just my left foot isnt used to being used so saving my car from stalling will come in time.

Magic Bus 07-16-2013 08:07 PM

Hang in there Minsu. Don't rush the gas or clutch, just do everything slow and smooth in the beginning.
