I remember back in '66 my old man saying 'any idiot can drive a car hard but it takes a man with skill to drive it smooth.' (yeah, I'm old as h3ll.) Just think about making it smooth. Feather the clutch a little until you get used to it. By that I mean give it a little gas then slip the clutch out slowly until it catches. You want to get away from feathering it eventually because it'll wear it out if you do it forever but while you're learning for a few days it's okay.
I drove m/t from the time I was 15 until I was in my 50's. I tried the manual in the 2013 Nismo and decided to go with the a/t in the base model. I decided at my age I just don't want to deal with all that shifting. After a while my old knee starts to hurt. Why deal with that? I'm not a racer. |
Practice by making the vehicle move just by releasing the clutch without stepping on the gas. Of course, you'll have to do this very slowly in your driveway or an empty street. You'll get used to the engagement point quicker than you think. Then practice this on an incline, this time just giving it enough gas so the Z won't stall, but still won't move.

I've driven manuals since 1973 (yeah, I'm old) and the Z was the most challenging to drive smooth. The lighter spring helped, but I still wasn't 100% satisfied. I bought the RJM adjustable clutch pedal assembly and was going to install it. However, after driving the car for over two years, I have become "one" with the clutch, so now all is good. It just takes some patience and mostly practice. I never did install the clutch pedal that I bought, so I need to unload it.
I do think that driving the "Dragon" for the last two years :driving: really helped to get my comfort level to where it is now. |
haha yea man thanks for the warm welcome guys, finally got to change the "drives" portion to a z on the z forum hahaha love you guys

You should get a racing clutch. You know, for practice ;)

Congratulations!
I had the same problems - When I initially got the car, if I was going somewhere new I'd check the route out on google street view to ensure there weren't any nasty uphills lol  (stop laughing). I got the hang of it fairly quickly though. When new to it, if I wasn't using the handbrake technique, I would half clutch it on uphills. So basically, put car in gear, let go of the clutch half the way (just before the catch point) and then hold it there. When you're ready to roll, do your thing. Also, probably a good idea to try to use your right foot on the brake as a reference for where your left foot should be to catch. Practice with the car stopped - that definitely helped me. Once you get used to, you'll be lawling. :icon17: :driving: |
