Shouldn't you put a few miles on it to break it in before taking it AutoX'ing? :ugh2:

More than just a few really. I don't remeber the break in mileage but it's over 1k for sure. Something like don't go WOT, don't ride at speeds of 50 plus for any extended time or some such sh1t. I read my manual and did the break in as it listed but i haven't looked in it since then.

Welcome, and congrats on your new car! Your gonna have a lot of fun.

engine break in is not needed. Only concern is gear break in, should be done in 300 or so.

engines are broken in within the first 25 miles or so.

KaienZ34 10-17-2011 08:44 PM

I was just talking about what the nissan owners manual says.

engine break-in is generally done at the factory, second, even if it wasn't... pistons are settled against the cylinder wall well within the first 25 miles...

Can You Give Us More Info?

danegrey,
Please post getting your new 2012 to this thread attached below. I am trying to figure out production dates and delivery times. Can you give us your car's actual build date (dealer can supply), the actual day it arrived, and the aprox VIN# (I don't expect you to give out the exact number, but if you could tell us if it's like close to #50 or #100 or what ever, that would be a big help).

Thanks --- Bonzo

Oh yeah, and EVERYONE here would love to see pictures of the oil cooler.

Echoing what everyone else is asking: we'd really like details/pics on the new factory-standard oil cooler solution. Can you take a peek / snapshot straight down between the radiator and the front of the engine (for any hoses headed from the radiator towards the oil filter area on the bottom), and/or of the underside oil pan/filter area with the plastic under tray removed (something like 16 little bolts around the edges of it, it's easy to take on and off if the car's on ramps).

Pelican170 10-18-2011 12:24 PM

Did they really put an oil cooler in the 2012's?? And if so, maybe Nissan will drop the costs to have one installed?? P robably not but wishful thinking...

Is this something particular to the Z or are you speaking of all cars? I just ordered a Mustang and pretty much everyone still see's metal filings in their oil up to 1000 miles.

Metal filings are going to be there for the first 3-5k no matter what. Keeping the revs low is not necessary though.

Read up on piston seating, etc.

When I broke in my freshly built f20's we would run them to redline on the third pull. Lasted for hundreds of drag passes.

danegrey 10-18-2011 04:07 PM

where are the pictures of the oil cooler?
The car is still at the dealer, I pick it up on Thursday. I didn't have anyone to drive my 91 mustang gt home and I am in Cleveland OH the today and Wednesday visiting family.

My question, I didn't know anything about the oil cooler in buying the car, can you all give me a hint.

How I got the car:
I walked into the dealership, I had an appointment to talk to someone, told them I was interested in the MT, they took me to the back lot and showed me two 2012's that were still wrapped in plastic and not even prep. They said they had gotten them in a couple of days ago, (probably late last week). They had the color I wanted (Black Cherry) and sport setup. So I spent the next 6 hours working and going over with them and getting the deal. I hope that helps a bit on the history of the car, will get the rest later.

more later

danegrey 10-18-2011 04:17 PM

as to break in, there is going to be some miles put on the car to get it broken in a bit.
i also going to try to take it easy (dreaming), but its a chance to play. :)

red6spd 10-18-2011 04:39 PM

I want to see pics of these Brake ducts.

Thanks for the pics. Please see my post over on the other thread about the 8/11 date questioning.

Bonzo 10-20-2011 09:11 PM

Oh my _________, you bought it from Jeff Schmitt?????????

We really need to talk!!!!!! Send me a PM and I'll get back with you tomorrow. There is no bigger lying sack of sh*t B.S dirt bag c*ck s*cking pr*ck dealer than Jeff Schmitt. Forgive my french.

Just make sure they don't drill holes in the front bumper like they did to the Z I test drove in May.

Seriously, oooooohhhhh, I feel for you.....

Bonzo 10-20-2011 09:13 PM

Oh sh*t, I just looked at your pictures again, I hope it's the lighting, but it appears from the limited pic they DID screw the front plate into your bumper. Hell, it even looks crooked. Please say it isn't so.

AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ughdance::mad::shakes head:

danegrey 10-21-2011 04:59 AM

well I have not taken it off and if they did, I will let them know, yes I did, but the only reason was the red mist affect, also it was there the one I wanted.

I am not through with them yet, working on a nice letter to nissan about them.....

semtex 10-21-2011 07:44 AM

Did they give you wheel locks? I can't tell from the pics (my eye sight is good, but not THAT good).

Glad you are not done with them, they are terrible. Let them have it as much as you can. Do not back off.

Did they forcingly try to sell you some sort of underbody treatment? And are they forcing you to buy the $300 window etching theft crap? They did both these things when I test drove the crap out their car in May. Both those services are crap, and are just 98% Jeff Schmitt profit.

I have a really bad history with this guy and his dealership. He promotes lies and deception. Do not trust them.

Which sales guy do you have? I forget his name now, but the guy in May loved calling me "man." "Hows it goin' man? What are you looking for today man? Sure man, no problem man. It's a great car man. You know man it's got a CVT transmission man?" It was then I knew he was talking out his arse.

Oh, and the car I drove had the license plate screwed right into the front bumper. First, even if you do put it on, it's supposed to attach to the black section of the bumper down underneath, not the color painted part. Check the black part and you will see 2 small indent dimples where the screws should go. But I say, how dare they put any screw holes in my car bumper. They should ask the customer before doing such a thing. Who in their right mind puts 2 holes into the front bumper of a brand spanking new sports car????

Tell them to take that stupid white Jeff Schmitt sticker crap off the back while you are at it.

RRRrrrrrrr. Just thinking about them makes my blood boil.

Sorry for the ranting.

Seriously, I sincerely hope you do not have the issues I had with them. I would not wish that on anyone. I hope you have nothing but positives out of your experience. Good luck.

I agree. That would piss me off. Oh, and I'd make them remove the dealership decal they slapped onto the rear under the 370Z emblem.

I agree, when i ordered my 2012 i gave my salesman and the performance supervisor/salesman a copy of demands and reminders to follow once delivered. The op just saw a 2012 on the lot and fell in love, can't blame him though.
