New Z Owner in Texas

Hello Everyone,

I’m a new Z owner and new forum member saying hello from Texas. I recently purchased a silver ‘09 370Z base/sport coupe with a 6-speed manual. The Z only has 75,000 miles but needs a little TLC.

I’ve already replaced the brakes, shocks, springs, rear camber arms, differential bushing, spark plugs, and valve cover gaskets. I’m also in the process of replacing all of the fluids, filters, and a myriad of missing and broken fasteners. The forum has been invaluable as I’m working to bring this Z back from its neglected state.

Next up, I will be replacing the gallery gaskets and the dash. The front bumper cover and the roof will most likely need a fresh coat of paint.

I’ll post some pictures once I get the Z cleaned up a bit more.

I'm editing my original post to include a few pictures:

Inside the passenger side cylinder head while replacing the valve cover gaskets and spark plugs.


The old rear subframe had seen better days. The differential bushing and both driver's side subframe bushings were shot. The rear camber arms were rusted to the mounting bolts. I installed a newer rear subframe sourced from a local salvage yard.



New all-season Pilot Sports were mounted after all of the wheels were re-finished.

Thanks. I’ve already removed the fuse from the steering lock circuit.

Here’s a picture to show proof of life. I’ll take more after I’m able to spend some time detailing the exterior.

It's been a few months and the Z is coming along.

I had Paul at Wireworks Performance in Fort Worth replace the clutch slave cylinder, clutch, flywheel, and clutch master cylinder. He installed an ACT clutch and flywheel, ZSpeed Performance CMAK V3, and OEM clutch master cylinder.











I installed a RJM Performance Rev3.3 AFP clutch pedal which was a noticeable improvement over the stock clutch pedal.

While Paul had the car, I also had him replace the oil gallery gaskets, tensioners, guides, water pump, and motor mounts.

Gasket failure at 75,000 miles...






All of the other timing components seemed ok...

Next on the list was replacing the cracked, original dash. It took a couple of days to remove and replace it, but it wasn't rocket surgery. I sourced a really nice replacement from the same salvage yard that sold me the rear subframe.



I had a local PDR wizard remove a long crease in the driver's side door and rear quarter panel. Another local guy refinished the headlights. I touched up the worst paint blemishes on the front bumper and roof with some touch up paint. It's an improvement but far from perfect. It looks ok beyond about 10'. The exterior is about as nice as I can get it without repainting parts or all of the car. I'm going to drive it for a while before I make a decision regarding repainting it.
