Hahaha, yeah the first time I picked up the books I thought "wow...this is...VERY descriptive...."

and I fully expected HBO to run rampant with it, but credit to them that they instead decided to weave in as much of the political intrigue and character development instead of more...basic instincts.

I remember in the book the scene where Bran finds Cersei and Jamie together, and he was describing the squishing.

I got the WEIRDEST boner there...

I really don't like sex at all in my books. i don't know, very rarely do i feel that sex in books is done right. not as far as description but as far as class and propriety are concerned. just most times, i would just prefer the implication of it. 9 times out of 10 i feel the implication usually correlates with better writing over a pornographic scene in my novel.

why would i want to read porno anyways, thats why i have a portable hardrive! :ughdance:

Honestly most of it isn't talked about forever, but the details are there, and plentiful to get a pretty solid image.

I didn't find it overbearing. Then again, I'm a dirty fvcker.

Since I have HBO and have heard great things about the books I decided to watch the first episode a few months ago. My head was spinning so much due to the fact that all the actors have a british accent so it was hard to understand names and a lot of the dialogue in general, but I was very impressed nonetheless. Seeing that HBO had a viewer's guide I decided to wait till all the episodes were complete for the first season so I could carefully translate and make sure that I knew who or where what they were talking about to avoid confusion. That was the right decision because by the fifth episode I didn't need the viewer's guide anymore and was very used to the accents. Pretty awesome series which is what I expect from HBO (Rome, Six Feet Under, The Sopranos) and can't wait till April! I am going to pick up the first book this week to hold me over till then.

I was quite conflicted at the end of the 1st book on this one, both of my favorite characters had been killed off. I really wanted to see Drogo cross the sea and wage his war but at least we get to trade him for some dragons which should be more entertaining I hope.

question: Does the HBO season 1 = Book 1? if so are they going to try and follow that formula?

Don't worry, every death has a meaning and you'll see some characters have to die for the story to move forward. Wouldn't be much of a story if everything played out in the protagonist favor all the time. I personally like the feeling that no matter how invicible a character sounds, none are immortal action heroes. It keeps it interesting.

If the 1st Season is any indication of how the series will be separated, it looks like each season is 1 book. The rest of the books are about the same in length with the exeption of Storm of Swords.

HKYStormFront 12-27-2011 02:58 PM

loved the first season, can't wait to see season two!!!

Cool, thanks for the info. That means I can watch season 1 without spoiling anything I haven't read yet. :tiphat:

oh and I hear ya on the character thing. I just really liked Ned and Drogo and hadn't really identified with any one else as of yet. I'm kind of torn about Tyrion as well, I know I'm not supposed to like him because of his family but I don't think he's a bad guy, just wants some respect.

HKYStormFront 12-27-2011 03:27 PM

yea Tyrion (having only seen season 1, not read the books) is kind of the rogue, he could go either way. kinda like sawyer on Lost. some episodes he's the bad guy but you like him (or at least understand his point of view), other times he's the good guy

Thats why Tyrion is my favorite character - you feel like you should hate him, yet you can never figure him out really...

Actually as you get deeper into the story, you quickly realize the lines of good and bad start to blur, and you dont even know who truly is evil and who isn't anymore.

Rooster89 12-27-2011 07:54 PM

Peter Dinklage is also acting the best I've ever seen him act, his performance as tyrion i feel is one of the reasons i find the character so enjoyable.

HKYStormFront 12-27-2011 08:14 PM

so true^ he is awesome in GoT. it almost feels like the part was written for him

First time I've ever really made a point to read the books before watching the movie or series and am really glad that I have. The first two books have been amazing, I feel like you miss out on a lot of really key details that you just can't get in film. The books are long but they're a pretty easy read and I am not a typical reader by any means. Go pick up the books, they're worth it.

4r3s 03-28-2012 06:18 PM

I tried to watch Game of Thrones and this is what happened - The Oatmeal

little late to the game but this was me a few months ago...

SgtGoldy 03-30-2012 05:10 PM

The only reason I have HBO is because of Game of Thrones...and an occasional glimpse of Rogue's Anna Paquin's boobs.
