Happy New Year y'all!
:iagree:  :tiphat: |
We going to do some cruises this year??
|
^^if you guys organize some “local chicagoland” cruise, I’m totally in.
I hope you guys are doing okay with this deep freeze in Chicago. My Altima gave me one hell of a time trying to start it up even with a newer battery. It was parked outside for 24hrs with a wind chill of -45. But it finally looks like the temps are going up... |
Happy Febtober
Bumping it up for those that are in the CHI. :excited: |
We're a month closer now to this supposed cruise!! Planning on leading something sometime in april or early may.
|
Following the thread, can't wait for a cruise!
|
I have 3 dates in mind. All are Saturdays. April 13, 20, 27th. I don't think these will interfere with any holidays. Weather dependent (has to be at least 60F+ and no rain).
If you like to sleep in, this isn't for you. Meet at the meet spot in Huntley (90/20) ~7:30am, on the road by 7:45. Should be back around 5-6pm. Here's the link from last fall. https://www.myg37.com/forums/upcomin...ia-cruise.html |
What kind of turn out do these usually get? Sounds like fun!
|
Peoria cars and coffee and Friday night lights coming soon. But my Nismo will be being fixed by then. New from bumper splitter belly pan brakes oil change.
|
Two weeks-ish and counting!
:driving: |
April 13th is out for me but the other 2 dates are good. Hopefully the weather will cooperate on 20th, if not then the 27th.
I'll post full details sometime this weekend. |
It's that time of the year. Nice weekends coming up.
Date: Saturday 4/20/2019, rain date Saturday 4/27/2019. Hopefully one of these will work out with decent temps and no rain (30% at worst). If not, we'll shoot for a May date. Meet time: 7:30am, on the road by 7:45am Meet location : Road Ranger off of 90/20 - https://goo.gl/maps/z3jp1SHtay82 Total distance: ~450 miles roundtrip (welcome to split off any time) *Please park in the area in red - http://i.imgur.com/QP1nSW3.jpg more space at the McD's next door Pace: Slow in the straights, somewhat spirited in the corners. This is a cruise with lots of miles, not a hotlap :) Lunch: Red Robin in in Dubuque Requirements: Be fueled (both you and car) and ready to go. We'll go through some favorite roads getting up to and around Galena. I'd like to mix it up this year by coming back through IA/WI (near Prairie du Chien). We'll cruise along the great river road too (IA C9Y). If anyone has a garmin which can do custom routes and wants to lead at a faster pace, I'm all in. Much easier to follow Given the length, I want to be on the road by 0745. Please arrive at the meet spot on time. Route concludes around Madison. Our last stop as a group will be here . 39/90 Isn't too far away if you're heading back into Chicago. If you're coming please post up or PM. We'll only wait til 0745. Love that route. I'm in.

I might have to make a weekend in downtown Chicago and join you guys for one of your cruises. That is a great route. MADison WIsconsin is an old stomping ground.
|
IN.
:iagree: :driving: |
|
Fyi looks like a flood warning for the hole's mighty Mississippi. Doesnt look bad enough to affect the route yet.

I'll see y'all there! :driving:
|
@BettyZ thanks for the heads up. Iowa 511 | Road Conditions | Highway Construction | Iowa DOT Shows it to be open at this time. Might have to make some last minute adjustments when we get there. Wouldn't be the first time :)
|
Perfect. I've driven the GRR from the start at Lake Itasca in Minnesota to the end at Venice, LA. Done the IA/IL/WI/MN stretch 14 or so times and am looking forward to doing in ya'lls company.

Any designated food bathroom-ness?
OR just the lunch time. :iagree: |
Stops are about every 60-90 min, at a gas station... with bathrooms :)
What do you think, this is some kind of amateur settings this up?!@# :) |
Was hoping so... I'm bringing the Camaro. So, erm... mileage is a concern.
lol :icon17: |
I thought the camaro had at least a 17gal tank, and got ~25mpg at highway speeds, even with the big v8?
|
Quote:
It does have a 19 gal tank too! But i'm not picturing lots of cruise-control happening :icon18: |
Hope everyone made it back ok. Thanks to those who showed up. 530 Miles door to door for me.

Lunch at Arthur's Deli in Dixon, IL next Saturday (closed on sundays)?
Much shorter (~200 miles). We'll stop by the Byron nuclear power plan, Lowden park to see the Chief Blackhawk statue. Nice overlook of the Rock River. Route is similar, but we continue S on 2 all the way to Dixon. https://www.dnr.illinois.gov/Rotator...1.D.360600.jpg Maybe stop by Niu's Algeld hall? https://www.niu.edu/events/_images/b...terior-420.jpg |
I'd love to but I have a prior commitment that Saturday. I'll be there in spirit though!

:) No worries.. Probably get rained out or cold. We'll just keep pushing it back until a good day.
Btw thanks to the group having the confidence to follow a complete stranger for some 300 miles! Ever since getting the gps some 12 years ago, nearly every ride (cruise) has been meticulously planned out, including 'scheduled' stops. Have never run out of fuel on 2 wheels or 4. |

Today would of definitely made for an unusual road trip... Time to mount the snow tires back on.
|
RIGHT?!? Holy snow-trip!
I like the idea of the 2-hour drive. The 450 was too much for myself, other opinions welcome. |
