The UTI Torque Meet conflicts with Super Car Saturday. Which one are you planing to attend?

As a side note, it was nice to meet everyone who attended the first meet of the year at Chili's this past Sunday.

No it doesn't, Supercar Saturdays is 8 am - 11am and UTI torque meet rollin starts at 11 am. I'll go straight from Supercar Saturdays to the UTI meet. anyone coming to both we can cruise together

FYI Bolingbrook to Glendale Heights is only a 30 minute drive.

Also nice meeting the new faces :tiphat:

Gotcha. I doubt I will be able to go to both, but I will check to see if feasible.

I have never been to either of these events. Can you summarize what both events entail.

Thanks.

supercar saturday is an awesome experience. Think of it as attending a giant, mature crowd only, car meet where the Z is the cheapest car. Common attendees include Aventador, Ferrari 599, Bugatti, a dozens of other super cars. Then there is a long list of nice sports cars like vettes, Porsches, Vipers, GTR, M3, etc.

Search "Supercar Saturday Chicago" on google images to see what I mean. or go to their webiste: Supercar Saturdays

UTI torque meet also looks to be fun, I have never been but they just had one in Orlando and 450 cars showed up.Glendale Heights, Illinois (Chicago) | Torque Meet Tour – A 5-City FREE Automotive Event Series

Not really, I bought mine on-line a couple years ago, but don't remember which vendor. (safe racer or SummitRacing maybe). However, the club does have a number or loaner helmets available. So if you don't manage to get your own helmet before Sunday, you can still participate using one of the loaner ones.

Try a motorcycle shop.

Only problem with a motorcycle shop is that they might not have Snell SA approved helmets, only Snell M. SA is the standard for auto racing, M for motorcycles.

The M helmet is OK for AutoX, but if you want to do trackday as well at some point, you'll need an SA approved helmet. Most track day organizers won't allow the use of M helmets, SA helmets only.

and aren't they bringing in a new helmet where the old version will not be allowed in 2 years?

b15 04-19-2013 06:52 PM

It was a coupe for sure. Only thing I could tell were the insanely yellow headlights. To be honest, I thought it was a civic at first...

 it's sad when I have go the Mid-Atlantic thread to get my chat on. Common guys :owned:

:D

Last night I met up with Happyman from this forum (he's from Florida on a business trip in Chicago, Drives a MB 09' sport touring with custom green calipers, tow hook, engine bits) He's a good guy. Was going to invite more of you to have a Z type meet, but this was last minute.

In other news, I shall be competing with Sean this year , just ordered another lens for my DSLR. its a Canon 50mm F1.8 lens. Will be a nice walkaround lens for car pictures.

Very nice pictures! I would sure love to get some hi-res ones, I'll send you a PM. Thanks!

I did see your car there on the parking lot Sunday, but I didn't see you. You should have come over for a chat! On the questions, fire away, I'll try to answer them!

It was a fun course on Sunday. But 38 degrees was a bit cold for my slightly worn summer tires... It was like driving on ice, no grip. I guess the dust left by the flooding didn't help grip either. I think you left the event a bit too early, you missed my smoke screen... Got a bit too aggressive at my last run and did a nice 360 degree spin :shakes head:

But yeah, it is fun and you should most definitively try it! Just sign up for the next event and if you want I'd be more than willing to help you out, course walk, ride along whatever. I'm sure my friends in the Z4M and Mustang GT will take you for a ride as well. (might be better to learn from them then from me, I'm not that good of a driver  )

I wouldn't mind a ride along. I need to visit some shops to try on helmets so I can order one for myself.

No problem. You do have to sign up for the event, we're not allowed to take random visitors for rides. Not sure why, probably club liability related. But just sign up, use a loaner helmet if you don't have one yourself yet. Do a couple ride alongs and then take your own car for a spin!

What other tinters have people used here? Umbra and my schedule just arent aligning and I would prefer to get tinted before summer starts.

The Dimer 04-26-2013 01:27 PM

I'll be at Supercar Saturday.

As for tinting, I'm not sure where you're at, but I went to Sunset Glass in Woodridge. I got my car done and my buddy got his Mustang and later his F150 done too. No complaints from either of us.

b15 04-26-2013 01:31 PM

Im in the naperville area. What kind of tint do they use? Any opinions on 3m vs formula one tint? My last car had johnson and it held up well but doesnt seem like many shops use them.

lll be at Supercar Saturday as well as the premeet.

tiger123 04-26-2013 02:13 PM

I just got my car tinted today at UMBRA. I made the appointment 3 weeks ago. While I was there, Nino was taking an unbelievable amount of calls with people wanting to get their cars tinted. He is now booked four to five weeks out.

Nino actually did my car. He did a great job and it looks really good. They use the Formula One tint. I got the Pinnacle series. It this the top of the line he carries. He is worth the wait, although I am sure there are other competent installers. I can't give you any references unfortunately.

I mentioned I found him via this forum and he took off $40.00. Not bad.

Good luck.
