KCIR closing down. possible last race Sat.

kcir just got put on the choppng block by a vote that was recently passed to turn the 90+ acre land into a park.

if this goes thru, it COULD mean saturday will be the last race held at this track. i personally am against this and think that nothing worse can be done to keep racing off the streets in kc. would anyone like to join in possibly saying fairwell to this 40+ year icon of kansas city?

It really does. only 1/4 mile in kc. the problem is that they didn't willfully sell. the city took the land in some zoning bs scandal and is trying to play it off like they purchased it. the owners had no choice but to sell

The city has been trying to shut down KCIR for a few years.

Here's what gripes me. The track has been there for decades. The past several year a lot of higher dollar homes have been built nearby. The homeowners complain about the noise and they want the track shut down.

Hey morons!! Why didn't you look closer before plopping down the big bucks? The track was there long before you and your home.

I observed the same mentality when I lived in Denver in the mid 80's. Stapleton Airport was the only airport. People would buy homes in close proximity to the airport or in the landing/take off pattern then complain about the noise! Jeez people! How could you not know an airport was there?

I'll step off my soapbox now.

agree completely. that coupled with the fact that it was closed under threat of condemnation makes this whole thing fishy
