You could always offer to bunk with someone!

SmoothZ 03-18-2010 09:26 PM

I've had 4 offers to bunk in my cabin! LOL

I think people will be bringing sleeping bags to sleep wherever they can.

Speaking of ZDAYZ, I'm a bit surprised that the last update on the ZDAYZ web site is dated 2/19, exactly one month ago. No event dates/times yet and it's now only 2 months away...

Bryan has been busier than a 3 peckered dog at work and the website is his responsiblity. I know he just started working on it again so their should be an update soon.

Dustin@Z1 03-19-2010 08:48 AM

I m not surprised at all!

ZDayz has grown alot over the course of the past few years. I will suggest looking towards Robinsville, NC if Fontana is booked. Its about 20 minutes from the lodge, but I know that there are atleast 2 to 3 hotels along the route.

I m sure that there will be plenty of room for people crash. I always bring my air mattress for friends and I think most cabins have a couch that can pull out into a bed.

HKYStormFront 03-19-2010 07:52 PM

yea bryan's been out of town for two weeks and working crazy hours this past week. he said he would be working on it some this weekend and next week so stay tuned for updates. ya'll need to cut some slack, he works his @$$ off to make a living, it's all he can do just to find time for sleep :)

I went in 05 and 06. It's just over 1,000 miles one way for me. Takes me over 16 hours total to get there. It's worth it, especially if you go with people or know someone there.

tooohip 03-21-2010 12:58 AM

If you are worried about an 8 hour drive, then it ain't for you. But then I'd ask why the hell did you buy a Z for... ;-)

I bought it as a commuter car.

m4a1mustang 03-21-2010 08:24 AM

Well looks like you're going to have an 8 hour commute in May! Sign up!

:ugh2: For the DC area? That's crazy. How does the Z survive driving in 1/4" snow when the govt shuts down?

8 hours is nothing compared to some people that come to the event. please try to make it, you won't regret the trip! we've got a guy with a legacy skyline registered that's driving from almost the pacific coast in oregon coming, his trip is like 44 hours of drive time or something like that. the reason he's making the trip? because it is just that awesome and worth the time and effort:tup:

That video was amazing.

FYI, the dragon is closed at the moment due to rockslides.

Check out this idiot, I think this is the road down by the river near by.

What a FAIL! He should have been doing about 40 mph faster and he might have cleared the rocks and made it to work that day.

Houston... We Have a Problem!!!

Tail of the Dragon: TN & NC Contact List Regarding Rock Slide March 15, 2010 | Facebook

Not good and sure does seem quite ridiculous although I suspect something's not right here. There's no way it should take that long.

m4a1mustang 03-24-2010 11:59 AM

Yikes. One of the comments on that post said Sept. 1 was just an arbitrary date that had to be entered into the system, so it might not mean anything. But I could see the road still being closed by the time ZDayZ rolls around, but hopefully it is reopened in time.

tooohip 03-24-2010 12:06 PM

it's a rock slide... They should already have it cleared and the road open, LOL!

tooohip 03-24-2010 12:38 PM

Quote:

Just received a clarrification for the TNDOT Public Information Officer regarding the September 1 date. The date is an ESTIMATED date. The contract for clearing the slide will be awarded on Monday (3/29), at that time a more accurate opening date will be posted. TNdot DOES SAY it should take several months to clear the slide. We will post as soon as we hear updates.
Sucks, but there are plenty of other great roads in the area and the activities are all still great fun.

Yes, the dragon is really just more of a novelty, although I suppose its disappointing if this will be your first time there.

ZCarMan 03-24-2010 03:09 PM

Isn't that what they make dynamite for? Sheesh!

tooohip 03-24-2010 03:40 PM

We'll have to see what happens as we get closer. I can't imagine they wouldn't open the road up sooner than that.

Oh well even if it isn't open there's plenty of other fun roads there, great scenery and awesome nightlife at the cabin parties, LOL! . ;-)

m4a1mustang 03-24-2010 03:57 PM

Rockslide cleanups can be a challenge. I think they can get the road open quickly but my guess is it won't be until after Z dayZ. They have to knock more rock off the face and install retaining walls/fences before its deemed safe for passage, probably.

StillenZ 03-24-2010 05:29 PM

I just don't understand. I am sure there's more to it than I'm thinking but am I the only one who things it seems like a simple task to clear the road and do whatever needs done to secure the area and make sure it's safe?....

There are people that I'm sure are "professionals" at clearing all of this stuff up. Z dayz is 2 months from now... I mean really???... I must be ignorant.

The real problem is dealing with the rock face. There is a lot of loose rock on the face that still hasn't fallen down, so you can't just start picking up the rocks at the bottom. You have to get all the other crap down first, then clean everything up, then secure the face with some retaining devices if necessary. Then it's got to be deemed safe for passage... it just takes time unfortunately, and since it's not on a real high priority road (like an interstate highway) it's not going to get done overnight.
