Hey left you the remainder of those Modelo beers since you seem to like them although I think I left them on your window sill while I was dumping the ice from the cooler.
At least Florida State seems to have finally woken up. |

Rest assured that if I do swap out a lense, I'm going to have a shop do it ;)

Still not completely sure. The lens got melted on the bottom where it was sitting in the oven. Happened to one of DM's headlights as well. I think mine got worse because it got a little melted the first time so the second session in the oven just made it worse. Definitely want to do cardboard soaked in water next time, works way better than aluminum foil.
Sadly for me, without a new job anytime soon I'd have to DIY this again if I did get another headlight. Might try some wetsanding and headlight restoration like you suggested to see if it makes any difference. |
Blades, before you try anything, lets get some research done as to how to fix it, if thats even possible.

blades try brandywineparts.com too. It's like an giant online junkyard they might be able to pull you some lights for cheap. Worth a shot.

Thanks Falcon.

Man, that damn Eastwest killed it on the paint!
|
Blades they look good, and luckily you went with that 2nd color paint choice!
|
Hey DM, your lights look good too, the pictures dont do them justice. Its hard to see the detail in them pictures.
|
Yeah would need indirect light to get a goot shot of it like an overcast day or sunset or something. Problem is that any sort of direct light makes the car shine and then you can't see past the housings.

May I ask how did you open up the housing like which method? Heat gun with a home made box or oven |
Oven was what did the damage. We had a heat gun but it took 5x as long to crack a single light
|
fack! that looks pretty damn bad! sorry man!
what degree did you run the oven and is there any heating rods on top of the oven? |
250 degrees for 11 minutes iirc. No idea on the heating rods.
|
I have a minor blemish but nothing compared to the hit blades took. I'll either replace the housing on the passenger light or have a body shop refinish it if possible. Going to start making some calls tomorrow.
|
I think I'm passed the point where this kind of stuff bothers me with my car. Can't change the fact that it happened so why stress over it. The car still looks amazing, just a little bit more on one side than the other :p
|
I'm willing to let that one light tip slide but not the heat blemish. Gotta go one way or another or it'll drive me insane.
|
did you guys do lense down with no foil or something? how did the lens melt this time and not last time?
I've always done lens down.. |

yeah that's weird
oh well :( can't go back now I guess |
Looks like my sealing job was better this time around. No condensation today/yesterday so there's that.
I'm going to call around to a few body shops today and get quotes on buffing out the melted part and call it a day. |
BTW I used loctite silicone sealant on the lights after the butyl dried to fill in whatever visible cracks there were and it worked like a charm.

That game was hilarious. It featured:
-Loud "B-ullshit" chanting that made Al Michaels start snickering. -Michael Orr being intentionally kicked in the head by a patriots o-lineman that wasn't called. -Belichick shoving a ref (lol) -Really awful officiating |

Back to the headlights. Put out some feelers and I'm waiting to hear back. Figured I'd do it in writing so I can keep track.
I sent an email to the guy that runs D&V Autobody (who did my door handles a week or two back). I left them a nice review on yelp afterwards and he went out of his way to thank me for it. Figured we might get an honest response from him. I also hear they do a lot of work for people on these forums so... Hi Again Kevin, So I have a small problem. Before I start I'm going to tell you that I understand very well (now) why we're supposed to let professionals do the custom work on our cars so here we go: Me and a few others on the370z.com decided to mod our headlights. Process involved baking them, cracking them open, painting (I went with "blackout) and resealing. ... I'm going to go ahead and wait until you stop laughing... Anyway we had a few "mishaps" and now two of us have "melty" spots on top of the clear lense of one of our headlights. I understand that the assemblies themselves go for $300-600 used on ebay but before I go there, is it possible at all to sand out/buff headlight lenses? Doesn't have to be perfect but I'd rather not have a quarter-sized melted spot on top of the lense. The headlight itself appears to be structurally sound and the heat damage did not penetrate the lense (appears to be mostly on the surface). 1) Can you fix something like this without replacing the lense itself? Nissan won't just sell the lense of course and wants you to have to buy the whole assembly. Almost like they didn't want you to crack open your own headlights or something... 2) How much would you charge if so? I can take pictures if needed. Happy Monday, -Mark |
DM how do you think these guys open the headlights? Same method
Hit up daedalus customs, they are local to you and do some pretty good custom work. Ask for Cliff and tell him I sent ya |
