Summit Point Karting Meet?

We have talked about this a couple times so I figured we should actually try to plan it out. I've never gone karting before, but I think it should be fun. As far as when we should do it, I'd like to try for July 15th. I know it's a little short notice and on a Sunday, but I have to go to Summit Point that day anyway so it would save me a trip there. I'll be doing my Lamborghini driving experience there at 9 AM that day and Karting starts at around noon. What do you guys think?

It's $25 per session, but I'm not sure exactly how long a session lasts. More info here:

we should consider the NJ motorpark speedway. I went there last year and the track was a lot more fun than summit's. It's also about the same distance away. If we get enough people we should be able to do a grand prix where we get times recorded with two heats and then the final race. lots of fun.

Coon-azz 06-27-2012 10:53 AM

I'd be interested. Do you have to own your own Kart or do they provide that? :tiphat:

m4a1mustang 06-27-2012 10:58 AM

Let me finish my weight loss program so I can actually be competitive.

Actually Google Maps says NJMP is about an hour further away from us than Summit Point. Not sure if I really want to drive 2.5 hrs each way for this. They have the Grand Prix at Summit as well for ~$70/person.

They provide their own karts.

Screw that! I'll use my weight advantage to counter balance your driving skill advantage. :roflpuke2:

Trollolololol.

So what does everyone think about the date?

m4a1mustang 06-27-2012 12:18 PM

I'm not in. Maybe later in the fall when it's cool out.

Just cover your arms this time, you'll be ok :p

m4a1mustang 06-27-2012 12:20 PM

Still out. 14th = BBQ. Following weekend = BBQ. Too much activity.

b1adesofcha0s 06-27-2012 12:24 PM

Yeah I didn't think the 15th would go over well, just trying to save myself an extra trip. When do you want to do it then?

m4a1mustang 06-27-2012 12:26 PM

fall like I said. Give people enough time to plan.

4r3s 06-27-2012 12:30 PM

yeah I'm thinking mid to late September would be doable for me.

not sure what I was thinking when I said nj park was same distance...but the place is twice as nice.

b1adesofcha0s 06-27-2012 12:31 PM

Then why the hell am I planning this out so early? :icon17:

4r3s 06-27-2012 12:39 PM

because its just around the corner in reality. Definitely do the grand prix, I wanna be able to talk smack when I wipe you all over the track and have numbers to back it up ; )

Still over 2 months left till then. I think the grand prix would be fun. It's too bad I'm on a weight gaining program rather than a weight loss program, losing my advantage over Steve! :p

Shahid, good of you to take the initiative on planning a Karting outing. Fall will indeed work out best as the temps will be more enjoyable and will give folks time to plan for it. I'm in so long as work doesn't have other plans.

Keep me posted. I'm in, just need to know in advance. I guess based on the conversation, I'm in that heavy weight class to? Is 230 lbs to heavy to do this? Figure I can drift better that way! :happydance:

Just get as light as you can for the race. b1ades is only like 100 lbs so he's going to own on the straights. :bowrofl:

I'll update this thread in like a month so we can get a better idea of when to hold this. I didn't know there were weight classes.

I'm more around 180 lbs. I think Andrew probably has the weight advantage over all of us.

m4a1mustang 06-27-2012 04:23 PM

We need to add ballast so all the karts weigh the same as the heaviest racer.

No fet penalty?

m4a1mustang 06-27-2012 04:36 PM

Would just be more competitive that way. Driving skill would win instead of power to weight.

Well, if I go they better have a sheitload of ballast to load up all the other carts.

XwChriswX 06-27-2012 10:22 PM

I'm just gonna put it out there I (used to, cause I don't plan on going back :icon17: ) work at a karting place in Hanover, PA. 4 Tracks with 4 different styles of karting. If you want I can still 'pretend' to work there to get us a discount. Basically if they haven't changed it, $20 for 2 hour armbands... The only downside is with it being the summer waiting in line, just figured I'd throw it out there.

Also, isn't the 15th the day after the BBQ meet?? :icon08:

b1adesofcha0s 06-27-2012 10:27 PM

Yeah looks like we are delaying this till September though. Are the tracks there any better than Summit Point?

Haven't been to summit point, so I can't comment on their tracks. I will say that I've been to several karting places, and have never seen Sprints before here. So if you want to drift basically, this is your place. The GP track is okay, but it needs work, and the slick 8 is small, so it would be meh with all of us.

However if you wanna meet up at SP and discuss things or have a go, I'm down whenever.

eastwest2300 06-27-2012 11:03 PM

Delayed = WINNING

MightyBobo 06-28-2012 08:20 AM

I'm trying to gain weight by putting on muscle, so I'll be losing my advantage. I might have gained like 5 lbs by that time

Maybe I can sneak some race fuel into my kart?
