There is HPDE insurance.

If I remember correctly you set the worth of you car so, you can set up a policy that covers you car and mods. It only covers your car and nothing else. Medical and liability are not covered. I feel there rates are reasonable. They do single event, multi-event, and seasonal policies. Not the cheapest option but it keeps you in your Z.

Honestly I wouldn't blame you, unless you have a pretty disposable income you run a big risk.

Darketch 08-30-2014 07:11 PM

So what are u looking at replacing the Z with? Do u have to get rid of it? Guess I would need more info to know why you have to get rid of the car so you can track more? Maybe I'm off the mark.

Darketch 08-30-2014 07:14 PM

Don't get me wrong, I don't want to see you go. But if you do sell it, I call dibs on ur parts! Seriously....don't sell ur car? Ur crazy!!!

HPDEs are pretty safe due to the way they are run. Divers are separated into groups based on skill level, you have an instructor in the car with you, classroom instruction, no passing unless you get a point by and in an approved passing section, and the big one, no racing. IMO you have a higher chance of getting into an accident driving to the HPDE event than participating in it.

Now open track days (non-HPDE events) are very dangerous. No separation of drivers by skill level, no in car instructors, you can pass at any time any where, and people tend to race each other.

The only time I have seen people wreck at a HPDE were advanced solo drivers out driving there cars. I'm still in the beginner class and I don't feel like I'm putting my car in any undo risk. The track itself does play a huge factor. Some tracks are more forgiving than others. What I mean by forgiveness is how much room you have before hitting a barrier if you go off. Some places have a lot, others very little.

Oh I'm aware, but a track weekend is already $400 plus gas, plus hotel, plus food. It gets expensive quick.

I would have to get rid of it yes. I don't have the income to be able to afford the Z, a truck, and a track car. I would like to get a newer 240sx, gut it, do the suspension/brakes, cage, seats/harnesses and then eventually do an engine swap. I would need the money from the Z though.

I wish I could say I agree but I've had two friends total their cars in hpde events in the past year. I also drove off the track last time I went to VIR, and almost lost control again in that same day. Sh*t happens. Plus I plan on doing time trials eventually.

I'm not %100 sure I want to sell her yet. I love the car so much, but I'd be devestated (both emotionally and financially) if I totalled her at a track event and insurance wouldn't cover.

If you did all that to a 240 and you crashed it...wouldn't you be out of 30k anyway?

JGuebara14 08-31-2014 07:31 PM

Any cruises planned?

Darketch 08-31-2014 08:57 PM

Think Tigger has something planned for September but he is on travel. Maybe he will see this and put down some details.

Hey where did u order ur G3s from? I ordered mine from F.I. 4 weeks ago and should get them any day now (was actually expecting them much soon). Talked to Tony and he said Stillen was backed up.

JGuebara14 08-31-2014 09:11 PM

I got them from local owner that was parting out

wolfesquire 09-01-2014 07:46 AM

I am down for a cruise, I just need more than a weeks notice to make sure I am free.

Nope. I'm actually gonna use a majority of the the money towards a nicer truck then put 10k cash towards a car and building it. Besides, 240sx's are a dime a dozen and if I wrecked it there's a chance I could just buy a new shell and transfer my parts over to it.
