tint + MD police certification..

OK, I was stopped by a cop not in the Z but my other car.. and he gave me a written citation to get the tints inspected and certified by the MD police (in 30 days) and mail the citation back....

any suggestions on where I should get this done? I have "legal" tints but want to get them certified as legal ... from what I understand this can only happen at a DMV... if this is the case is one DMV in MD better over another ?

thanks,

I had this same issue a while back with another car. Any DMV should be able to do it...basically they stick a scanner up to the window to see how much light can pass through. If it reads less than 35%, you might be SOL (mine read a 32% and had to get it removed).

That is some BS!!!

The officer should have been able to do the test himself. When shado and I were coming back from Z Nationals last year, we were stopped by an officer (who actually turned around to pull us over....he was traveling the other way on the highway) and he asked to check the tint on the drivers side window. It passed and he let us go on our merry way. I'm surprised MD officers don't carry the tint checker tool, too.

I agree. They should carry the equipment on them to test tint if they're gonna pull you over for it.

We also got out of that ticket by taking our shirts off. I'm not proud, but it worked.

MD Sucks... 'nuff said. :ugh2:

As far as I know, Tony's the only man who can go from wearing a t-shirt to a sweater by taking his shirt off... :icon14: :icon17:

Depends on the county or city where you live. I think that in Northern Virginia is the worse place.

NOVA laws suck... I once got a ticket for improper lane change... the cop in an unmarked chevy hatch back said I tried to run him over ... HAHA

when you go for the cert make sure you clean your windows squeaky clean, dirt can make the difference of pass/fail if your on the cusp of legal tint.

PapoZalsa 01-20-2012 07:27 AM

I might be wrong but if I remember correct the windows of the Z comes with certain % of tint from the factory which will affect the % went tinted film is applied....

All windows come with a certain % of tint.

OK, but the point is that is you get for example 35% Film legal for whatever state. Then because the cars comes with some % of tint when tested it comes to be less than the legal limits, then you have to remove it. However you paid for legal Tint.

That is why the Shop should print in the receipt the Tint % that they installed on your car.

3SeventyZ 01-21-2012 07:08 AM

I'm glad I just got a doctor to sign a tint waiver so I don't have to worry about tint % anymore.. ;)

My car is registered in Delaware, but MD allows exemptions too.
I picked up a "Medical Exemption" form at the MVA and took it to my eye doc.
Just told him I had light sensitive eyes, he laughed and signed the paper with no problem.
The process shouldn't be too much different for Maryland.

I know right, but it could be worse, budget crunch has cut down on the numbers of state troopers on the road.

haha, that is true.

Dude, actually I dont even worry about getting pulled over for tint, the chances are pretty low when you think about it, a lot of these jurisdictions dont have the technology to check.

supersic58 01-27-2012 11:38 AM

Don't know about that one...

... I've been snagged twice for tint on my car and once for no front license plate. In the People's Republic of Maryland, Big Brother is always watching... and these items were the only reason I was pulled over.

yes, I should learn but I can't.

Dude, where the heck do you stay at? I put the actual license plate on the dash, and havent been pulled over for it yet.. I guess, I've been lucky so far.
