Rocked pretty crazy at Quantico. Sitting in the office, you could see the walls and ceilings shaking and swaying pretty good. Lasted about 30 seconds. Reactors in the area (Lake Anna) did what they are supposed to, automatically go offline.

it was pretty wild...my first earthquake. I thought it was just the building at first.

cell phone service screeched to a halt. no voice or data. nada.

Was in the office and felt it. The whole building was shaking and ceiling material started falling. Friend was in a meeting next door and said he looked out the window and saw the frame moving back and forth side to side. We all went under our desks for about 20-30 seconds. Then evacuated and finally released a half hour later. Now gridlock on the highways. 5.9 is the latest magnitude and one aftershock so far.

It just confirmed what I always knew, no way I am ever living out on the west coast

Of course now we have to start worrying about what Irene might bring out way.

The funny thing is most of my life I was out in California and earthquakes are common there. When today's quake struck it didn't take long to figure it out but other here who haven't been through something like this were freaking out.

I missed all the fun as I am out of the country...

Worst quake I was in was in El Salvador. Though that my obituary was going to read like Elvis's... Did not want to go out on the toilet...

If your not use too it, a 5.9 can be scary. Try a 6.5, at 4:00 AM, nice wake up call!
Put a pair of shoes beside your bed tonight. In case of an after shock, you don't want glass in your feet!

Yeah, we had quite a few people at work that were very shaken. I believe this was strongest on record in this area and really the first quake that most natives of this area have experienced. We on rare occasions feel a little subtle shake that we aren't even sure is a quake but nothing remotely close to this.

Haha it's not one of those giant reactors... the uranium in our reactor isn't even weapons grade. It's a university reactor so its all for educational research.

FYI, don't believe what you see on T.V. Our reactor glows warm blue not green!
