If you have more than about 10 cars....expect trouble without a permit. Just an FYI. We (350z/G35 group) have had problems in the past....

ZOLE 07-24-2011 11:06 AM

I'll be going to the Baltimore Grand Prix that weekend. Sounds like a fun drive.

:iagree:

birdmanx1 07-24-2011 12:16 PM

hmmm just saw this Randy. I will be taking the missy for a weekend getaway that labor day weekend. If we change plans, I will be there for the cruise boss looking for trouble

Vapiano 07-24-2011 12:35 PM

I will just be getting back from San Fran (Dreamforce 2011) on a red eye, no can do unfortunately.

If we get 10 cars, getting the permit should be no problem. It was like $35 last time I cruised skyline with the subie crew.

RandyD 07-24-2011 03:25 PM

i just did a dry run today... nice drive.

the park charged $15 for entry - which allows you to go back for 7 days.

how would August 13th work for everyone? If not then, i will have to wait until the 3rd or 10th. It would be cool to get the highest attendance - so lets try to get a consensus.

The segment from Rt7 down to Rt 50 was fantastic.
I found a great little scenic byway down to Rt17.
The ride on Skyline was a blast, and very fun on 211 down to sperryville, although i got stuck behind people in the curves...

I am thinking it would be best to get to sperryville, then turn around and do skyline drive the other direction, since it is so much better than Rt211.

anyhow - let's please settle on the right weekend, and I'll keep scouting :)

Roadster4Us 07-24-2011 04:23 PM

The 3rd is great for us. We would have have to miss the 13th and the 10th.

Results aren't coming up from the link Randy, unless it's an iPad issue.

I reposted the route above. (Anyone else having trouble with the link?)

based on todays dry run, the idea is to go down the mountains to Front Royal,
then south on the Skyline Drive until 211
then turn around at sperryville and go back north along skyline drive again.
then cut back up to leesburg.

RandyD 07-25-2011 07:35 AM

saw a black bear on the drive btw... kinda cool

Somberlaine 07-25-2011 08:16 AM

what was the speed limit inside the park?

I will try to make this one. FWIW, you should include a stop at the Sperryville Emporium on the cruise. It's right off of 211 before you begin the climb to Skyline (or right at the end of your descent if you're coming from Skyline). It's a cool store. I always stop there to pick up apple butter, honey, and apple cider.

They'll usually get you pretty good if they spot you doing anything north of 40.

I actually did stop there. I think its a good turn-around point.

I was enjoying a spirited drive.... passed a few people in the passing lanes, passed a ranger going the other way while in the 40's - no issue.

There were not many other drivers on the road. The biggest thing i think is to watch out for deer or other wildlife. The road itself is beautifully curvy, wide, easily handled by our cars even at higher speeds. (if you were to exceed the limit :) )

m4a1mustang 07-25-2011 08:42 AM

It's just one of the places where I defintely would not want to get a ticket. The United States of America vs. M4a1Mustang.... No thanks! :icon17:

Is it safe to assume Sept 3rd as official date for this cruise Randy? If so I'm in.

shadoquad 07-25-2011 09:47 AM

I might be in for the 3rd. Don't know yet. I definitely can't do this in August, though.

RandyD 07-25-2011 10:12 AM

Yes - Officially the 3rd.

any chance of getting those photographers to join in again?

birdmanx1 07-25-2011 11:31 AM

Great deal Randy. I'll talk to the photographers about joining us for this cruise and snap away like they did last time. Al will finally get his deserved full blown Hollywood cruising style shots ;)

I was wondering based on the number of attendees if we could do a tiny contribution/car for the photographers time taking pics and editing them for all of us. I will cover their gas and food expenses :)

mdztuners 07-25-2011 12:06 PM

I might be in for this...where exactly is the first meeting place? I dont want to get lost again ahem Al ahem

shadoquad 07-25-2011 12:22 PM

Don't worry guys, since I'll never lead one again, no one will get lost

I'd be more than happy to contribute.

shadoquad 07-25-2011 12:36 PM

If I show up, I'll contribute to the photogs.

birdmanx1 07-25-2011 12:45 PM

Chris, you won't be lost this time, at least not at hooters :icon17:

I have it starting and ending at Leesburg - probably the outlet mall parking lot, that should be convenient middle ground for both the VA and MD folks.

birdmanx1 07-25-2011 01:05 PM

No worries about that Randy, glad you made it that day. It was a very fun event with great company, great organization and great weather

I'm enjoying the scenic views for this cruise. Hopefully the "Oh no, popos" don't give us much attention then - It might be a great idea to pull out the "I love cops" sticker or the one from the Fraternal Order of Police. If all else fails, thank goodness for shado's charm (Something about the way he wears his hats) :icon17:
