I'm enjoying the scenic views for this cruise. Hopefully the "Oh no, popos" don't give us much attention then - It might be a great idea to pull out the "I love cops" sticker or the one from the Fraternal Order of Police. If all else fails, thank goodness for shado's charm (Something about the way he wears his hats) :icon17:

I have the police scanner on my iPhone remember?

Yes, but from all indications, speeding is not tolerated on Skyline Drive. As mustang said, they'll peg you for going 40 in a 35. The feds don't mess around. Trust me, my last speeding ticket was on Aberdeen Proving Ground, 42 in a 35.

Yeah, I mean if you read the tickets, they can get you for going 5 or more over anything.

I will try to make this one. FWIW, you should include a stop at the Sperryville Emporium on the cruise. It's right off of 211 before you begin the climb to Skyline (or right at the end of your descent if you're coming from Skyline). It's a cool store. I always stop there to pick up apple butter, honey, and apple cider.

Dont forget Marshmellows for your brakes LOL!!!!! :stirthepot:

They can give you a ticket for 1mph over if they want. A lot of areas in that part of Virginia will do just that. But 5mph is the general threshold in VA and especially in that area. If you get tagged doing 40 on the twisty part of 211 where the limit is 35, trust me you're getting a ticket.

I got a solution. What about bringing donuts, tons of yummy looking and tasty glazed donuts. Wouldn't that work? I heard they are suckers for donuts :icon17:

Great idea. You take the lead position with the donuts, Cruise about 45-50, and we will follow. Problem solved. You're the best bird man :icon17:

birdmanx1 07-25-2011 04:32 PM

:icon17: man thrown under the bus. I was thinking m4a1mustang would be the bait on this one; afterall, he is the main one in our group with a cop-like 5.0 stang

shadoquad 07-25-2011 04:37 PM

Bertaut,

You think that a couple dozen Dunkin Donuts will pay these cops off? These are the feds, man. Have some respect.

Minimally, you'll need to get Starbucks Coffee and a couple dozen Fractured Prune donuts. These guys know quality, clearly.

Mmmm Fractured Prune donuts are THE best. We should all go to the one in Columbia since next Sat is a MD meet. :rofl2:

:bowrofl::roflpuke2: You are right, let's add sprinkles to those glazed donuts and mix starbucks coffee with some water :p

You all obviously know nothing...

Its iced cold Chocolate milk and Krispy Kreme donuts that get you out of that ticket every time...

I don't believe you:roflpuke2:

RandyD 07-26-2011 06:50 AM

well, for all this spooky ticket-fear, i was pretty spirited all day on the test run... no issues .

i saw one park ranger, who passed me in the opposite direction when i was in the 40's in the park, no issue, and I passed one state trooper parked in the median on 211 doing about 70, also no issue. (we won't be doing that 211 leg even)

I picked the other roads on purpose to be out of the way as well as fun... we can judge by how much traffic is out there when the day comes.

Might be a different story when there are 10+ cars going 70

Plus I heard they dont like radar detectors? (not that they do anything anyway)...

Radar detectors are illegal in VA and will get you one big fat fine if you are caught with one.

It's actually a relatively low fine, less than $50 last I heard.

It's $100 for radar, plus your speeding ticket, plus whatever else the cop decides to write you for. So the average Z will get written for illegal exhaust, lowering springs, two broken tail lights, and assaulting a police officer. :D

And I heard a while back that some lawmakers were trying to make radar detectors illegal... that failed. Then some other lawmakers wanted to make a radar ticket, even if you were only speeding under 15 over, reckless. :icon17:

Red__Zed 07-26-2011 08:16 AM

Should be a $40 ticket. Court cost is $61 if you fight it and lose. ******* Virginia.

Red__Zed 07-26-2011 08:17 AM

If you prepay, it's only the $40 though.

m4a1mustang 07-26-2011 08:30 AM

OK, but here's the deal:

You WILL lose.

And you'll have to pay the speeding ticket and all of the other tickets they write.

Red__Zed 07-26-2011 08:33 AM

Potentially. But you can prepay the radar and it's only $40. They're also probably not running rdd's through skyline anyways. It's only Vsp you have to worry about, and they don't hang on skyline.

b1adesofcha0s 07-26-2011 08:37 AM

Don't think I will be able to make it to this cruise :(

lazywolfe 07-26-2011 08:46 AM

Any chance these roads are so twisty that only going 35 will actually be fun?
The ticket stuff is ruining some of the fun. Damn fuzz!

Red__Zed 07-26-2011 08:47 AM

Skyline is ok at 35-40. The view is fantastic though.

Yeah, you can have a bit of fun even at that speed, and it is some of the greatest views around. Plus we have a few guys running up front as blockers with a variety of donut types :icon17:

When I got a federal speeding ticket, they made me enter my plea in a seperate room before entering the courtroom, so that I had to commit before I saw whether my officer was there or not.

birdmanx1 07-26-2011 09:54 AM

:icon18: Tasty donuts, stunning views and hungry cops, it doesn't get any better.

mdztuners 07-26-2011 10:10 AM

I gotta be careful, still on PBJ from my last ticket (60 in a 35) :happydance:

shadoquad 07-26-2011 10:16 AM

pbj is awesome. Virginia lacks pbj in favor of calling every driving offense reckless.

I would love to join everyone on this ride. I haven't been back to skyline drive since getting my Z. BONUS: I live just outside Leesburg too.

VaGntlmn 07-26-2011 11:17 AM

maybe I can make this one!!!! :driving:

ZCarMan 07-26-2011 03:18 PM

Might be able to make this one as well. I've never made this drive so it would be good to see the views and enjoy a nice ride through the park.

mdztuners 07-27-2011 08:09 AM

Hopefully I have my carbon fiber front lip on by the cruise, it'll give me that extra downforce for that 35-40 mph range :driving:
