This is one of the reasons I'm going down for the entire week. I'll have all my dragon-carving done by the time most of you show up. If you're just getting out there Thursday or Friday, good luck. :ugh2:

The Dragon is good fun but the faster roads are probably my favorite. Hellbender is great. Love the Skyway too.

Al is right though. All the roads are unique and have their own charm.

Yeah Hellbender is an awesome road leading up to the Dragon. The Skyway is the only road where I had my first "oh SH!T" moment at ZdayZ last year :icon14:

I want to caravan but on a 700+mile drive I need to hunker down and put the pedal to the metal. No offense but doin the speed limit aint gonna cut it for me. Especially since I know that by the time I hit VA my back will already be screaming for relief.

Gotcha. Well be careful and remember anything over 80 in VA is reckless, and radar detectors are illegal!

sig11 03-27-2012 12:39 PM

I have had some thoughts about trailering... :P

Woah...
We spent quite a bit of Kentucky at > 100mph the last couple years. :P I don't think anyone batted an eye.

Eep! He took the dragon with the trailer? I think I would have to bypass. heh. It would also take me much longer to get there and home since I would want to conserve some fuel... Probably no way I'll do that the more I think about it.

Yeah that doesn't fly here. I lead the cruise and usually keep us at 5 mph over, sometimes 7 if I'm feeling frisky. It's a PITA but I figure we just take our time and drive fast once we get there.

With so many loud sports cars in a caravan, even doing the speed limit attracts the local LEO's attention... and not in a good way. As much as it pains me to only do 5-7 over the limit in the caravan, would rather save the wild driving on some fun roads instead of in a straight line on the interstate

sig11 03-27-2012 12:51 PM

Right-o. We don't do more than a few mph over the limit in Ohio... (two years ago one of the guys got two tickets catching up to us. : )

Yeah I know the radar detector deal. Dont own one anyway. Over 80 a wreckless huh, damn. What are highway speeds in VA like??? Also, how long does the caravan usually take to get there??

From the Starbucks parking lot we meet up at, I think its about 540 miles start to finish. With stops for fuel and food, I think it was around 9.5-10 hours total last year?

According to google maps, it is 9 hrs from FFX to Fontana, but you have to factor in stops for gas and lunch at Cracker Barrel.

m4a1mustang 03-27-2012 02:34 PM

Its a great drive though. We make stops for gas/food and it really breaks it up and you can enjoy the trip. I think we got in about 4:30PM last year which was perfect to get checked in and the grill going for dinner/brew!
