Capital Driving Club
I'll be up front I am an organizer with the club, but that also means if have questions I will try to answer them.
I'm going to use this thread to update the dates and keep you guys aware. Our next event is tomorrow (7/31/10) in Woodbridge VA. The lot is a somewhat new surface so there is a lot of traction we currently have 1 z33 and 1 z34 registered. Come out and join us. To submit a registration just go to Capital Driving Club , then click on schedule and register for the event. It's 35 for non members, and 30 dollars to become a member if you wish then the event costs 25 dollars. If you plan on attending more then 3 events it becomes worth it. |
This is pretty cool. I'm glad you posted the link. I'm not much into AutoX myself, but I'm sure other locals are.
|
You should give it a shot when we are at bowie. Have you auto crossed before with other clubs?
|
No. I never have. And I would probably try that out before doing a track day, because there's more room for error.
|
Then you really need to come out to the bowie or frederick event. First so I can see a blackcherry in person, and second so you can try it. I ran my brothers 350 a few years ago and that was a blast and a half. Not to hard to learn and a place where you can let things be a little more crazy then on the road.
|
Hey sorry to hijack your thread, but im new here in the DC/MD area, and I was wondering, is there a spot around here where people with tuners/ or hooked up rides meet up everyweek? Could you PM me, or post up here if you have any info on that? I'd greatly appreicate it.
|
I have no Idea I haven't been into that scene since the early 2000's
Our next event is coming up this weekend (8/7/10) At james wood high school in winchester VA. This lot is worth the drive. It's a large lot that affords long runs or many runs depending on the course layout. It also has a huge crest that enable us to make some very technical tracks. |
Back to james wood on 8/21/10
|
Were heading to bowie this weekend, 8/21.
|
Bump....Looks like it will be a largish turnout.

This was part of the agreement between me and my wife to be at the NASA event all last weekend. I must say it was well worth it...:D |
^win for me....this will be my last weekend on street tires. Moving up to R-comps. You will probably out index me after the change.

SATurday September 11th Autocross
CDC is back to Harry Grove Stadium, Frederick, MD on SATURDAY September 11th. We will also have a Test and Tune SUNDAY September 12th. Registration and tech inspection will be at 8:00 and will promptly close at 8:45 to try to accommodate the full field, while still giving 6 runs. You must be DONE by 8:45. So if you arrive at 8:00 you won't have a problem. Don't arrive at the last minute. The event fee for the Saturday autocross is $25 for members and $35 for non-members at this event. SUNday September 12th Test and Tune Day These Sunday Test and Tune Events will be held the day after the Saturday Harry Grove Stadium Autocrosses in Frederick , MD. The Test and Tune event will be an informal autocross using the same/similar course as the day before. The differences are the following: Field is limited to 40 participants with about 5 organizers (for a total of 45 vehicles). Times will be announced and recorded on the timesheet, but no results, no points, and no indexes will be posted –This is only for fun No extra runs if we miss a time – This is only for fun The format will be 2 heats with 5 morning and afternoon runs (number of runs in the afternoon will depend on time and weather conditions. We hope to give 9 to 11 runs). No food or drinks will be provided – We need to keep the amount of equipment to a minimum. So plan on either bringing drinks and food or going out to lunch. Event is open to members and their guests only, since the event is so limited in size. The entry fee is $35 per member, $40 for non-members. All 40 slots will be given on a first come, first serve basis. |
Tomorrow!
|
Harry Grove. I remember auto-xing there. Man that is a small lot.
You all need to find some bigger lots.. |
It's my least favorite of the lots (and the smallest). We have been using Winchester a fair bit, and it is much larger. Mercedes club is running at that lot on Sunday, but rain appears imminent tomorrow.
|
We used to get Ripkin stadium all the time. Then they had some events on the lot with the big tents and they drove stakes through the asphalt and the lot started having problems. Next thing we know the city shut us down because the lot was getting "damaged" by us running there.
Oh well, time was running out on that site because of the new hotel and the town homes going up around there. It is hard to get good lots around here. |
Well.....stainless clutch line failed. Took it to the shop, replaced it, tested it thoroughly, and was fine the whole drive home until I got to the exit ramp before my house...............then no pressure in the clutch pedal again. Not leaking any fluid, but somehow the pivot ball in the trans has now broken and is bouncing around in the trans making a nice tinny noise. Going to have to pull the trans and replace it. Not sure if it will be fixed in time for Cumberland next week .
In summary....epic fail. |

Mike, I see you’re on the list. Did you get everything fixed? Any other takers out there in forum land? Just imagine it as an ordinary hard parking (for those who don’t know the term Urban Dictionary: hard parking) event but you actually get to drive. Keep in mind that a bone stock 370Z (or pretty much any other car) is perfectly capable of competing in auto-X. |
Yeah...I got it buttoned up early in the AM of Friday to get to Cumberland in time. Unfortunately...I had to take a shot in the dark in terms of air pressures, etc for the R888's on Saturday. I really could have won BSP up there this weekend, but ended up 3rd. All of the other cars in class were on hoosiers.
You should really try to make it up there for the Oct.23/24 event. You could probably take 2nd in C stock. Rob Robeson and his well prepped RX8 on hoosiers is pretty untouchable up there in C stock though. |
Maybe I will try to make it out for that event.
I definitely know Rob, he has bben my instructor at Summit Point on many occasions. There is no way that I am beating him. |
40.24!
Damn Mike you really kicked a$$ this week! Very nice time.
That was one event that I wished I could drive the afternoon heat. But I doubt I could have shaved two seconds... I'm glad one of us could show that a Z can mix it up with the Miata's and Cobras. |
I had a good weekend....super consistent. My slowest run of the day was ~41.1....and not a cone all day. I was really hoping to get down into the 39's, but it wasn't meant to be. The R888's were really getting good on the 3rd runs in each heat. They take a while to heat up, but they are sticky. The big turn out was awesome. It was also really nice to get some of the other scca heavy hitters to come out and run for comparison stake.
It seemed like most people ran about the same as their morning runs. The temperatures just got too warm after about 12pm for the street tire guys. I think my best morning run was ~40.4. The Oct. 9 event should be another good one! A group of newbies with 350z's will be poppin' their collective cherries. Perhaps some 370's will join? I plan to run SCCA this Sunday......you have any interest in registering for that event? |
Doh...
|
?
|
I will run in BS...
I signed up for the Sunday event but accidently chose BS. Oops…
|
I think you can edit your entry....but yeah you should be in C-stock. There is like 240 entries for Sunday.
|
Confused.
I have been reading the SCCA rules and getting even more confused. I think my oil cooler and brake ducts knock me into Street Prepared.
I will post the question in the official auto cross thread and see if I can get an answer. |
They do, but you can get by with it. No offense, but with the group C-stock......it is unlikely that you can't get a win. I doubt anyone will protest. You can feel free to come and run with me in BSP though.
|
I changed to C Stock.
|
See you Sunday.
|
C-Stock is absolutely stacked this event....Sam Strano (5 time National Champ) just registered in a 370z....should be interesting.

Results are up already.

I on the other hand had a pitiful day in my opinion.....I just sucked. My best was a 52.377.....even though I asked three times if I hit a cone.....and they said no....it appears I did. So....52.635 was my best. I couldn't get any traction what so ever.....inside wheel spin about 40% of the track. I think Sam Strano has talked me into buying his front sway bar ($80 ).... |
Can you give me a link to the results?
|
Click on "Event Results"......you must be registered on the site to view the results though...
Solo Championship #7 |
Looks like there will be 4-5 350z's popping their collective auto-x cherries on Sat.....be a good time for some of you 370z folk as well.
|
Results are up....I ran like poop in the afternoon. Was pushing way too hard.
|
Anyone here planning on this:
