BMW Event

I signed up for the BMW Club’s “Chapter Fest” auto-x on October 30, 2010 at Bowie Bay Socks Stadium. It looks like it should be a good time. They are having an auto-x, go-kart arrive and drive, and a look at my beautiful beemer concourse de elegance. You should join me to kick some beemer butt. The link is ChapterFest | Home. |
^I'll probably be there.....I believe.
|
Got bored....did an Autocrossers Inc. event today. Basically club level SCCA. Strano, etc were there again. Drove like poop, but still won BSP. I think FTD (non cart) was Karwan again.
|
Anyone up for the mercedes event in winchester Sun?
|
Mike,
Can you post the link. |

They don't really have a link. It is just walk-up registration at 8am.
James Wood High School Winchester, VA Last event they only had ~30 cars attend. I haven't run with them before, but there supposedly very fast, open, and long courses. I think you must run the morning and afternoon sessions with them though. Typically they are done around 2:30 though. That's about all I know..... |
This Sunday is out for me, sounds like fun though... Thanks for the heads-up.

2nd Place!
I took 2nd place at ChapterFest! Final Results, #10 - Chapterfest 2010 - Sat 10-30-2010
You would have cleaned house Mike. It really was a reminder of how talented some of the drivers with Capital Driving Club are. Damnit.....Martell got FTD. We are usually very close and tend to go back and forth in terms of who is quicker. He co-drove my Z at Cumberland the last event.
I should have come, but I heard all kinds of negatives in terms of how it was run. |
Yeah, it was an absolute cluster f*ck.
The most poorly organized event that I have ever been to. |
ZOMG a second 370z signed up for Saturday.......

You will get to see my new homemade ply-wood splitter this weekend. The amount of front down force it creates is pretty incredible. On one of my first test runs around a familiar corner I almost spun out (however, the splitter was angled down much more than it should have been). Even with the splitter perfectly level I think I will need to add a rear wing before I would feel comfortable taking it on a track day. Next project on the winter list is a homemade rear diffuser. Let's see what I can do with some aluminum sheets and a rivet tool... |

I ran PCA (Porsche club) last week and almost took FTD... they made a 60 second course at Bowie....it was a lot of fun. FTD was 60.8 or so... I ran a 61.2 dirty and 61.5 clean. It was a good scrap. 1-12 were separated by a second. Also, ran really well at the CDC T&T....finished like 6th or so. In car from the PCA event: YouTube - PCA Autocross 11.13.10.wmv |
3rd time to Frederick this year....3rd time I broke the car there.....that place is cursed. Only 3 incidents (outside of driver) I had all year....
|
Fixed the broken seat rail on site this morning and ran in the 34's today....on the same course. Too bad it didn't really matter in terms of points.
Results are posted for Saturday on CDC. |
First CDC event of the year is the 19th at Frederick. Also, there is a BMW NCC event in Waldorf. The waldorf lot rocks, but the drive is a bitch. Not positive which I will be at. Made a few shake down runs of the new set-up while instructing at BMW School last weekend....
http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5259/...58243f22_z.jpg Not fun packing up a Z with 4 hoosiers, tool box, jack (small one), fold out chair, air compressor, helmet, tq wrench, etc.... http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5098/...e5b3c953_z.jpg http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5295/...716decf4_z.jpg :bump: |
Typical....10 s2k's............................................. ....................and 1 370z. Come on guys. The 350z people are just as bad.

I felt good for my 1st run of the season and I was pleased with my times. I also liked all the attention my car was getting. FAST TIP: If you want to get noticed, and don't drive a Ferrari, attach bits of clearly homemade aero to your ride. Don’t kill you’re A6’s at the test and tune. |
Truth be told yesterday was a pure failure...I had a catastrophic seat issue. Fixed it this morning and was way faster. Best of 38.41 with Larry in the passenger seat. Could have been a 37.9 with some warmer temps, no passenger and a bit more talent. Most that ran both days were faster yesterday......though it was a bit cooler today.
If I can be consistently 1-1.2s off the XP cobras and occasionally keep them honest.....I am happy in terms of CDC. |
Can't believe there is the potential of snow for the SCCA test day on Sunday.
|
Need more 370's to start coming out!
|
Results for Saturday are up....
I chickened out at the end of the best run....should have stayed in it! In-car: |
Damn I suck!
Mike.
That course just killed me. For some reason my brain just can't work out any course with a lot of gates. I am going to bring Butters (my Boston Terrier) to the next event. That way Luna will have to spectate. Do you mind riding with me and giving me some pointers? |
I remember running on that lot in 98ish... Was small then. Seems smaller now. I would try and do some of your events but they are always on those small lots. They planning on getting on any bigger lots?
Also am an AI member, though I have been too busy for the last two seasons of AutoX to get out there and work, or have fun driving. |

I only run the morning heats (they give you an extra run if you only run the morning) and I am always back home by 1:00 pm. It’s nice to run an autocross season and still be able to have some of my Saturdays left. |

The biggest lot CDC uses is Winchester. Woodbridge is probably second. Waldorf is probably the best lot in the area....it is just a fairly long drive from Frederick. |

I was crap today....furthest I have been from the FTD winner in quite a while at CDC. Wade edged out Brian by .04. 38.00 vs 38.04.

Managed to pull a 40.2 in a stock 06 350z on 225 all seasons. Could have been a mid 39, but the tires were on fire....and literally melting. I think the black Z had a mid-high 36 in it on that course had it fired up today.
|
I'm trying to decide between going to the CDC event or the OC Car Show on June 11th. Tough decision. How is the lot in Bowie? It's the closest one to me, and I don't want to go as far as Frederick or VA. The next CDC AutoX in Bowie isn't until late August.
|
It's alright, but it isn't one of the better lots in the area....usually the courses are easy to follow there.

It's an easy, convenient place to do your first event.
