STAY!!!!

THE QUESTION -- is it too many lights OR too many light GROUPS........and WHAT IS THE NUMBER?

m4a1mustang 07-03-2010 07:57 PM

So a quick search of the Code reveals...

Quote:

§ 46.2-1030. When lights to be lighted; number of lights to be lighted at any time; use of warning lights.

B. Not more than four lights used to provide general illumination ahead of the vehicle, including at least two headlights and any other combination of fog lights or other auxiliary lights approved by the Superintendent, shall be lighted at any time. However, this limitation shall not preclude the display of warning lights authorized in §§ 46.2-1020 through 46.2-1027, or other lights as may be authorized by the Superintendent.

http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp....2-1030+500541
Reading through 46.2-1020 to 46.2-1027 there is no mention of LEDs as approved lighting, so it really comes down to what the definition of "general illumination ahead of the vehicle" is, I think. Unless I'm missing something, even the Audi LEDs could be questioned.

My guess is the officer didn't write you up for the front lights because she didn't really think there was anything illegal about them... she might have thought that at first but after a little more thought it becomes apparent that it's terribly unclear. :shakes head:

m4a1mustang 07-03-2010 08:00 PM

I would definitely replace the blue license plate lights, though. That is probably what really gets you pulled over.

Also, find some way to reduce the output of that fog light. It is TERRIBLY bright. When I follow your car I feel like tailgating you so I don't have to look at the foglight! :icon18:

Soooo, it almost sounds like for "general illumination ahead of the vehicle", the number is 4, but that still doesn't address the definition of "a light" -- example, is a bar of LEDs that are in a group count as a light OR is each individual BULB count as a light..........

I hate rain delays.......

My guess is the law is going to define each individual LED as a "light." If you read through the code it gets very specific about the maximum output of certain lights, including any one interior bulb (no greater than 15 candlepower... could LED interior lights be illegal? :icon18:).

Gotta love the Commonwealth.

After she had me sign the ticket I asked her....."Hey, what about this?" and I turned on my blue map lights. She peeked in and shook her head and said, "Well, I wouldn't drive with those on." :bowrofl:

Meh...it's not points....just a fine.....I told her....."I'll accept as many warnings and tickets as you guys give me. I won't be removing the lights." She shrugged and said that was my choice. Then I asked her....."Hey, wanna see under the hood?" She was like...."SURE!" So there I was.....no lights on the fuel gauge....hood up.....12:15 AM on Fairfax County Parkway.....with two cops shining their flashlights into my hood checking my car out. :roflpuke2:

(before I opened hood I told her...."Ok, no matter what you see under here, you can't give me an additional ticket, ok?" She laughed and agreed....she was really cool....just doing her job)

Forgot to take a pic of my car and I know Amar was there and gone by the time I showed up, so I just included a past pic of our cars together. Does anyone have a Smurf pic? Found One.

See ya this Saturday

ZCarMan 07-06-2010 06:13 PM

Hey, I've registered to go down to GA and attend the Z Nationals September 24-26. I will leave from GA headed back to Maryland a day early on Sunday. Sunday is for the drags anyway which I'm not entered in. What caught my eye is there will be 40 slots up for a run at Talladega Grand Prix Raceway for $150.00 according to Dustin"s post from Z1. I guess the Cobb AP and Dyno tune are out and the oil cooler and brakes are in! Anyhow, if anyone else is thinking about it I am going. Have my reservations at the Hampton Inn in Bremen, GA already. Food for thought for discussion on Saturday. Plus we have to set a weekend for crabs at Hariss Crab House. Across the Chesapeake Bay bridge on Kent Island right after you clear the bridge. So much to do this summer!

m4a1mustang 07-06-2010 06:16 PM

I'm not doing Z Nationals this year. But yes, we do need to plan a date for the Crab House thing! We'll need to be good planners, too, because getting stuck in Bay Bridge traffic will suck!

ZCarMan 07-06-2010 06:21 PM

Yeah, we can try and get the logistics thing for crabs worked out this weekend as well. There is still time so no rush. At least gets folks thinking about it and planning.

Who's up for this weekend? Steve mentioned possibly doing lunch at Coastal Flats afterwards? I've never been, but I'll be down for lunch. Thoughts?

m4a1mustang 07-07-2010 11:00 PM

I'll be there!

zZSportZz 07-08-2010 12:15 AM

I'll definitely make it a point to come down. At least for lunch. ;-)

I was at "that" Nissan dealership last night. Pretty big facility....lots of parking. They had about a dozen 370's on the lot. A used 2009 GT-R in the showroom.....only $72K. And my buddy who just traded in his ARC 2008 350 Nismo (1 of only 1600) for a 2010 370 will be at Starbuck's this weekend. So add another one to the list!

Oh, and his ARC 350 Nismo is for sale at the dealership.....only a little over $30K. Jump on it, Steve! Here it is from the D&V Auto Body meet from earlier this year:

what's an ARC nismo? Sorry for my noob question. I assume it has ARC stuff on it or something

m4a1mustang 07-08-2010 08:08 AM

Looks nice but I bet it LOOKS faster than it is haha.

Not a bad question at all....I had no idea, either. There is a plate in the car showing the # out of 1600 from ARC. ARC...JDM stuff......he had that wing specially made and designed just for that car from what I was told. More or less....it just came already built with lots of upgraded JDM stuff. More than the average NISMO of that year.

(I hope I'm right about that and didn't just say a load of bull!) :roflpuke2:

Maybe another thread would be good for this dealership meet on the 17th, since it's at a different location and not the usual Starbucks.

You could list all the address details etc etc, and what's going down on that day..... times, food, drinks, etc etc

And we can all post our cool pics after without flooding this thread for the starbucks M&G.

Yep, I did the basics but hopefully he'll see the thread and add more. The salesman I was talking to last night knew about it already so it sounds like it'll work out well.

probably good to have a new thread but also to update this one, so when that sat. rolls around, people aren't all :koolaidwall: when they show up to Fairfax around noon and no one's there.

....don't feel bad....I did the same thing the first time I went. Not only that but there were already about 4 people at the right one and they saw me but then I made another wrong turn. About 5 minutes later I finally came to the right place. I get out of the car and they are: We saw you down there and we were like "Where did he go?"! :icon17::icon14:

My first one, only about a month ago, I went to the right place but was way early, thinking :ugh: "This the right place?" Then I saw a red Nismo drive by, and I'm like  "I'm in the right spot." Then he just kept on going. I was back to :ugh:
