Well yes. They ground the motor and also connect to the chassis. I think you answered your own question.

Mine does this in 5th every single time when cold. Going from 4-5 or down from 6-5. Then when the car warms up a bit it stops completely.

It's not the clutch, but the clutch pedal. If you search for RJM pedal, you will see a ton of replies on how this will solve your problem...Cheaper than a new clutch for sure.

This code is difficult to chase, and I have seen all kinds of different solutions to it. I suspect it is vibration related.. I have even seen people have the dealer replace the flywheel to correct...
